ok ok, whats the deal with trari?

to build them u need the army baracks, but the marius reforms are trigered with the construstion of the army baracks..

this means trari are obsolet, and u can no longer construt them...

the most i have ever goten was 3 or 4 from doing senat missions.
u cant even retrain them after a battle, and like i said, with the army baracks that enables u to build them, u cant cus it starts the reforms. and that allso means u cant retrain them too.

If you manage your cities carefully you might have time to build 20-30 triarii units before the reforms. Make sure that you have no health problems for the steady growth of your cities.

Triarii is most useful against cavalry. If you plan to fight Macedon or Brittania they are the perfect match for their cavalry. Also they are good against foot units. They have very high defence.

Download the Rome Total Realism mod. It allows you to build triarii fairly quickly (I think Roma can build them immediately), and in units of 80 (though it does take 2 turns. Personally I stick with phalanxes in RTR, you could say I have mastered their implementation into a standard Roman Army.

Go to the downloads page, it gives you all the info. You also get to play with new factions.

in regards to post #2
what do u mean, with the fist baracks i build, it dose the reforms preventing me from traning them! :(

The reforms trigger only when you have all of a group of certain required buildings together in one city. If you figure them out (or search among the threads, there was one about it), you can carefully manage your cities to withold one crucial building and nevertheless build Triarii and other late pre-reform-era unit.

That`s right. I tend to specialise the cities. For example if playing julii, I select Mediolanium as the infantry city. I tend to build the city with a view to build only gorund units. So select a coastal city(preferably with large trade income) for the navy units only. This way you can catch two birds with one stone:

1) You can prevent reforms.

2) You can build more powerful units in numbers without interfering with on-another.

Again, see my earlier post. I know it's a pain DL'ing on a slow connection, but it isn't that hard to find a high speed connection. And it is well worth the effort to download Rome Total Realism if you really like Rome Total War.

(Perfect, I'm quoting myself. I don't know how much more self centered I can get....)

In some time you´ll start saying that you´re God or something like that...

Oh, but I am :goodjob:

If I were god the enemies would flee before me and beg to be protectorates. And when we do have to battle, not a single one of my men would die. Though I try, I have yet to do so. But my implementation of the phalanx mercenaries into a standard Roman army is nearly flawless. They suffer little if any casualties and have yet to route, no matter what the veterancy of the units. I also use them quite effectively in defending cities, when the enemy breaks down my walls, I just shove a phalanx into the hole and it it effectively patched. I usually set them in a formation slightly bigger than the hole created and in this case as deep as possible.

They also become veterans very quickly.

I've only seen them as Senate gifts in a long Imperial campaign. I've finished 5 imperial campaigns as Roman factions, and none lasted long enough to have the option to construct them. The few triari I've had do not seem to be particularly useful. I've never seen a Marian reforms occur in any game, ever. But I've read that it does happen.

Of course it does. Play one a bit longer and see the new troops and watch them make mincemeat of your enemies.
