The scribes slowly etch the corresponding symbols into the tree bark. It had now been many decades since Ozrik the wise and the time of the first writing. A small language, with different pictures representing different words appeared, etched into tree bark. It was complex, and scribes had to spend much of their lives learning it, but it was a great improvement over the old ways. For one it helped preserve the Code of Honor, also developed by Ozrik. The simple laws had created thinkers out of warriors, and Zapatans grew to be known throughout the lands as a just people. It also impressed other cultures. Many of the tribes around the Zapatans joined under the banner after being exposed to Zapatan culture. Only one small pocket at the foot of the great mountain refused.
Para Dam offered new oppertunities for the Zapatans. The rich land around it's paliside walls provided rich harvests year in and year out. Within only three generations, Para Dam grew to be as large as Dak Ir Para, a testament to it's agricultural strength. Trade is conducted with the surrounding villages, and some intricate gold trinkets arise, suggesting another advanced culture to the South. The mythical black beasts that were told in legends had also been sighted on the other side of the Ho'Dak. Back in the North, the seaside tribes had united under the nation of Ikram. Their capital is Hyasa, and the ruler is known as Luke.
In Aphrea, the Northern expedition to Iskador Springs still hasn't found what they are looking for. But everybody is certain they are very, very close. In the South, a similar expedition is launched, but it quickly grows tired. They forget their orders and instead establish a city at the farthest extent of their Southern penetration. Small pockets of indigenious people are discovered around the river, but they are different from the Aphreans themselves.
Back in the city of workers, attempts at diplomacy fail. A final conflict looms. The high priestess spends a large amount of money financing an army and sends it crashing at the rebellious city. The battle is ferocious but in the end the Aphreans are supreme. Tall trees were cut from the forests and rammed into the doors of the city repeatedly till the Aphreans entered. Inside, the Aphrean army was far superior to the workers, but lost a great number of men all the same. For many days there was celebration, but then it dawned upon those in power that the money spent on the army had decimated the economy. For a decade, Aphrea entered a horrendous depression, and it seemed it would never get out. Fortunatly however, near the end of this last century, deposits of silver were found not far from Xiiwolvae. These have provided the spark necessary for Aphrea to climb out of depression... just barely.
Aphrea: 70 men
Workers: 125 men
The Northmen try to improve their army through technology, but this is only slightly succesful. Archery becomes very popular, and the Northmen soon become as proficient at shooting arrows as they are in wielding the battle ax. The quest to use animals in warfare is less succesful. No "horses" are found, as the beasts would surely die in such cold temperatures. Otherwise the Northman state keeps progressing. Ore is found in the nearby mountains, while several other tribes are assimilated. Contact is established with three more advanced states. In the West, Ipsa, a nation of fishermen and raiders. To the North, the large nation of Svedland, a nation of miners who live in lands even colder than those of Death's Northmen. Finally to the East is the state of Istland, home of the Eastmen. All three are states of 'Northmen', just like Northland itself. All 4 states speak the same language, fight with the same weapons, and worship the same gods.
Northmen: 25 men
Barbarians: 50 men, 1 village
In the lands of the Kirmizi, peace reigns. The Amasi are the only other tribe close by, and they are loyal friend. The Konjan have not been heard of in years, apparently very scared of the Kirmizi. Expansion along the river is peaceful, but much land is gained elsewhere as well, as groups of wandering nomads join the Khanate. It is said that some similar kingdoms live nearby.
In the lands of the Dialic speakers, the Western Dialicians set out to commit slow revenge. The Hamelians agree to punish Krage, looking at how they themselves could profit from the situation. The Dialicians themselves expand until their armies are at the doorsteps of the Krage kingdom. The Dialician kingdom is massive now, but admnistrating his new subjects is the least of Kiefer's worries. The warriors have their spears and shield brandished. Nearby men have made new arrows out of the nearby wood. They look at the nearby Krage village, and then at their chief, waiting for the order to attack.
Traterium continues to expand, finally reaching the coast. A great road is built from the capital to the seaside, where they build a new town. Hostile tribes have appeared around their capital however, and military focus may have to be shifted Eastward once again.
The Serdioan city states continue to expand, carving out what parts of greater Serdio they can have for themselves. The ancient city state of Serdio itself doesn't expand at all, and many begin to question the king's leadership.
OOC: Espirito, you have not found any horses on your island yet. Notice that you almost entered depression this turn; be careful not to let you economy level drop to 0. Das, I won't say anything regarding the world, but I'd suggest you look at the temperature map closely. The Ho'Dak river has been titled, sorry, I forgot. Plexus and Espirito, you guys will have some more npcs coming your way soon. So will some of the unpopulated regions of the world.
