Troubleshooting and F.A.Q.

Hey Xyth,
This might have been addressed already, if it has my apologies.
I'm running 1.23.2 on mac and I'm noticing that I cannot rename cities. I can rename my capitol(s) (in single player and hotseat) but I cannot change the name of any other cities.
Also, separately I'm wondering if there's a way to disable the "greatest civilizations" ranking list that occurs routinely throughout the game I usually have crashes around the 200th turn. I'm going to search this troubleshooting thread for answers to that question, I'll be sure to save the crash log if this happens again, but it always happens when the ranking list appears later in the game.

Renaming when founding a city is deliberately disabled but you should still be able to rename a city afterwards by clicking on its name in the City Screen. What happens when you do that? If it isn't working please enable the logging system (see first post of this thread) and test again.

I highly doubt that ranking list would be causing a crash, I haven't made any changes to it. Please post the crash report if it happens again though.

So what happens is, when I build the capitol I can hover over the city name and get the info about the population size and when it was founded, etc... In secondary cities absolutely nothing happens at all, no yellow highlighting to indicate the cursor is over it or anything. So I enabled the logging system and here's what came up when I enter any other city other than the capitol:

[ Python Exception
Traceback (most recent call last)
File "cvScreensInterface", line 596 in forceScreenRedraw
File "cvMainInterface", line 1013 in Redraw
File "cvMainInterface", line 3086 in updateCityScreen
ZeroDivisionError: Integer division or Modulo by Zero ]

Let me know if you need any more information.
I tried to take a screenshot but everything turns out black, I'll work on that and see if I can pull up an image for you, but that (above) is the literal translation of what came up upon entering the city screen of a secondary city. Note: it did not come up when I entered the city screen of the capitol.

As for the ranking list, yea, I'm 99% sure this has nothing to do with the ranking list too, this is of little concern to me now because I've been playing this mod for YEARS and didn't realize that you took crash reports on the forum until now for some reason (haven't logged on here since you dropped 1.23.2). If I experience this again, I'll be sure to send over the report. I can't thank you enough for getting back to me today. This mod is still my favorite way to play any Civilization game (been playing since 1999), can't thank you enough for all your hard work.

Okay, new development. I updated to 1.24.1 and there are no more issues. So that takes care of that. Whatever it was it was taken care of in the update. 1.24 is awesome anyway, was just reluctant to abandon older games.

Hi Xyth, I've been out of this amazing mod for a long while.

So now I came back, and playing on a Windows, each time I load a game I've got the Python Exception you see in the attached pic.

Also sometimes I get a notification like: "A horseman has died in combat", in white characters, and is not a unit of mine, so I imagine is a unit of any other civ but I don't know why (and when) this notification appears. I can remember this happens also playing on a Mac.

And the last thing is something I did already report: the ancient ships (no capable to access to an ocean tile) are not able to access to the reef tiles placed over the ocean. This only happens playing in Windows, while in a Mac the ships are able to access to those tiles.

Thanks in advance! Any idea about how far is the 1.25 launch?

Sorry I've been so quiet this past couple of weeks. Election in my country, have been crazy busy.

So now I came back, and playing on a Windows, each time I load a game I've got the Python Exception you see in the attached pic.

An incompatible character has been used in a sign somewhere. If you edit or delete that sign, the error should disappear. This is a problem in BTS, not just HR.

I haven't confirmed, but I think the "Horseman has died in combat" message is a great general unit dying.

Yeah, I think it's an attached Great General that triggers that message.

And the last thing is something I did already report: the ancient ships (no capable to access to an ocean tile) are not able to access to the reef tiles placed over the ocean. This only happens playing in Windows, while in a Mac the ships are able to access to those tiles.

This is still on my todo list. Can you please clarify what you mean by "access" though? Ancient ships can move through oceanic tiles on Mac?

Progress has been slow I'm afraid. I've had very little time for modding this year. It'll be out before Xmas though, but it probably won't be as comprehensive as I'd like.

Ok, sorry my english is not native. I'll try to clarify it:

Take the trireme as an example: on Mac it's able to be placed over a reef/ocean tile, while not in Windows.

Thanks!

Still some other minor things:

-Playing on Windows. Christian is my state religion and I've a city were christian, druidic, and shamanic religions are present.... Don't know why but the shamanic temple has a lower production cost than druidic. It make no sense, I think.

-Something I've noticed that doesn't happen in a Mac: religions spread over cities still if there's already a religion present. That's nice, I like. But now I have to deal with almost all my cities with 3 religions present. Maybe it is too much easy-spreading? Still not sure...

The attached saved game was playing on a Windows:

I don't know why I have access to Prime Timber: I haven't still researched Machinery neither I'm trading this resource....

This is a problem with the Mac version of BTS, not History Rewritten. Mac BTS doesn't run very well on certain Intel graphics chipsets.

Thanks for the reply. I want to tell you this is an excellent and very polished mod. Just started playing it and will give you further comments. Dennis

OK I figured out the issue with Mac Book Pro graphics. Just turn anti-aliasing to 0 in the graphics section.

Have the K-Mod version 1.24 updates been made for Macs as well yet? Let me know please.

K-Mod relies on a custom DLL, which the Mac version of BTS does not (and will never) support.

Hi guys, I didn't get an answer about that.... What do you think? ;-)

Hmm, not sure why that would be. Do you remember what that the hammer difference was?

K-Mod changes the manner in which religions spread and also introduces the mechanic of religions 'dying out' in a city. I haven't really examined the differences yet, so I'm not sure whether to keep K-Mod's implementation or to disable or modify it.

Ok, I will check on next days and expose exactly how much is the difference.

I've never seen a religion "dying out" in a city, but I haven't intensely played yet on Windows. By the way I really like religion spreading (although other religions being present), but maybe I would reduce the spread rate. I think the spread rate should be scaled to the number of religions present on a city. In a game I had 5 religions on a city (and I think all of them spread spontaneously).
