[TSL] Yet (not) Another Earth Maps Pack

please post your lua.log (see troubleshooting section in first post)

ok guess i found the problem. got 1.0.0.17 version of civ. need > 1.0.1.217 . and cant find a way without steam :S. If you have any suggestions it would be great :D thx already

So how are you going to handle Byzantium and the Ottomans having the same capital city and thus starting in the same tile?

Also, where are you going to put the Huns? They seem to make europe even more packed and might not fit. If you want to be a little liberal with where you place them and still be accurate, putting them right above the Caspain sea would work, it's around where the Huns originated.

And the Celts, and...

I'll work on an exclusion list that the user could edit in the setup screen, so you can choose which civs won't be on the map for your next game. It will allow you to make Europe less crowed and keep a bit of randomness.

How do I increase the number of strategic resources on the huge earth map? On standard resources setting I only have 2 sources of 2 iron in all of North America. This needs to be increased, at least a bit more not too much. Should I use the abundant resource setting? Will that help? Thanks

Abundant will make the map has tons of resources on every tile near your capital. It's kinda weird like that. I once got 8-10 silks near China and the same amount of Sugar for Egypt on tiles near the Nile. Kinda break immersion. >_>

Also, Giant Map work fine for me no crash. I think it's because I have good computer.

I see and I can play the Giant Earth Map, but it did crash. Supposedly it is not a computer issue it is a CiV vanilla issue. In fact, I will try it again, and let you know how it goes. I'll just do some just in case saves and see if it crashes while playing. I use infoaddict, an Ags resource info panel mod. I am also adding in the marine too. Well I will let you know how it plays out. There is time before GnK anyway.

Besides I am playing as America and it will give me a bit of room to maneuver before having to deal with Iroquois and Aztecs.

Ye, playing as America or Iroquois with the other nearby is kinda annoying on higher difficulties where they get 3 cities right away. :3 I also use infoaddict. :D

I upped my luxury resources to +5, just to mess around. Last night, I setup my game and began the frst turn and saved. I'll begin playing later today. I started in the Medieval Era. Now just in case my pc is the issue. I will play with 19 civs and 12 CSs, so there is room for expansion. My choices were civs mostly associated with WWI and WW2 and a couple of others that seemed to fit. For instance, I added Arabia, Egypt, and Spain, as well as Aztecs and Inca. In the far east it will be a battle for supremacy between Japan, China, and Korea. I am ending at the Industrial Era in the middle of a WW2 situation, with domination or VP victory after 400 turns. The game should be quite interesting.

Raising the resource setting will raise all resources available, if you just miss a few iron in NA, you could add a few random gisements.

Open ResourceRegionPos.xml with any text editor (I would suggest notepad++ to have minimal code formatting), find <Resource_YahemGisementPosition> and add a row for Iron gisements :

Code:
		<Row>
			<Type>NORTH_AMERICA_IRON</Type>
			<X>11</X>
			<Y>51</Y>
			<Width>27</Width>
			<Height>10</Height>
			<Resource>RESOURCE_IRON</Resource>
			<Deposit>4</Deposit>
			<MinYield>2</MinYield>
			<MaxYield>6</MaxYield>
		</Row>
<Deposit> being the number of plot with Iron that will be placed randomly in the area defined by <X>, <Y>, <Width> and <Height>. (X,Y is bottom left)

<Type> can get any name, it just need to be unique.

<Resource> refers to the resource type defined in vanilla Resources table

edit : ho, and then you must check the "Add major deposits of strategic resources" option in setup screen for the resource to be placed on the map !

Thank you Gedemon. I will keep this in mind. Right now I am playing on the GEM again. Once you update the mod for GnK. I will add some gisements at that point if needs be.

Hey is there anyway you could allow the map to let you have more than 22 players please because it is boring when you have bought DLC and they dont all fit in the game especially with new expansion adding 9 new but even though like 2 or 3 of them cant be added e.g the Byzantines there is still no where near enough room to all fit so please fix this.

We can't fix this until we get access to the code source.

So far so good. GEM is working great thus far. I have been fighting both the Aztecs and Iroquois for about 80 turns now. What a slugfest bloody war!

Hey, I'm having the problem where a large amount of city states are conquered instantly, I have been using the Giant Earth with Extended City States and City State Leaders. Anything I'm doing wrong?

Cheers

Ok, I have been doing a bit of testing. Luxury resources seem quite scarce on the maps. So are strategic resources for the most part. Bonus resources are present in greater numbers, but seem there seems to be too many cows or deer in one area. There is no resource diversity.

The thing is when you play CiV, much of the fun is finding good locations for cities. Granted there are times you have to place cities in poor locales for a number of reasons. Even so, there should be enough nice potential city placement locations. These maps, at least the Huge and Giant maps, simply have too much of a scarcity of resources. Therefore it is difficult to build a worthwhile empire, in a game where happiness is limited and very important. The most aggravating problem is having to build 3, 4, or even 5 crap cities with no resources to connect to a far flung location, in order to connect a luxury resource to the capital.

The question I have is can this issue be fixed? Because these maps are excellent. The giant earth map is very well done and accurate.

What I want to know is why the random resource generator does not provide enough varied resources, like it does on the normal game maps? Other than the resource problem and late game crashing, everything else is great IMO. If these issues get fixed I would play these maps every time.

Hi,
I'm getting a bunch of crashes playing on huge.
Is there any way to downgrade the patch to 1.0.1.217 via Steam?

I've got a good computer, and was playing on giant, but had the same issues (but not at the end of the turn). I've even tried lowering graphics settings.

It's usually happening at the end of the turn. It's really annoying

It's a great mod pack, I love it.

It has to be your comp, because I had that problem before I got a better comp.

I have:
i5 2500k @ 4.0GHz
Gigabyte 468X UD4-B3
8GB Corsair 1600MHz RAM
GTX 570
Crucial m4 256GB (Civilization is on this).
Plus a mechanical drive which is irrelevant.

Is this not good enough?

I love this map pack, I really do, but what would be the best option for me if I wanted to either 1.) Play these maps with random start locations, or 2.) Find maps of this quality that give random start locations?
Also, I was playing on the epic(Giant? I forget the name) map, and it just random froze up on me (turn 300something, I had autosave turned off...like an idiot). The loading time between turns really wasn't bad, maybe 15 seconds at the most, and it never got choppy or laggy, the freeze just kind of happened out of nowhere. I've read through some of the comment and this seems like a fairly common issue. I have an i7@3.4ghz, 8gb ram, and Geforce 560ti1gb. Any tips on what I can do, or am I just going to have to downsize to huge? Huge still looks great, but something is just special about seeing how tiny your civilization is compared to the epic size of the world with the giant map :)

Thanks!
