Tupac06 - AWE Continents

(40 turns for the start).
We are playing Rome, Emperor, random continents, random conditions, random barbs, random opponents. AW of course, lets see how we get on ;)

4000BC (turn 1)- The start looks good, we have a cow on plains and a game in forest (on plains), a river, and two large lakes (we are on a penisula in the middle. This is a good start.
Found on the spot. Set research to Bronze Working @100% and start a warrior.
Sorry but I'm in a slight rush so for the report I'll only outline the important events.

3850 BC (turn 4) - First warrior finishes, sent scouting.

3600 BC (turn 8) - Second warrior completes, kept for MP duty. Start a barracks

3500 BC (Turn 10) - Palace expansion

3400 BC (Turn 12) - rax finishes go for settler, its a bit risky without much mil but no other contacts yet so we should be alright.

3200 BC (Turn 16) - pop is at 3 so lux goes to 10% still have BW in 3.

3100 BC (Turn 18) - Settler completes --> archer. Lux tax off.

3000 BC (Turn 20) - BW comes in, set to IW at max w/o deficit. Found Veii --> warrior. IW in 30 but that will change with growth.

2800 BC (Turn 24) - Rome: Archer --> Spear, Veii: Warrior --> Rax

2630 BC (Turn 28) - Rome: Spear --> Spear

2470 BC (Turn 32) - Rome: Spear --> Settler

2430 BC (Turn 33) - Veii: Rax --> Spear

2270 BC (Turn 37) - Rome: Settler --> Archer

2230 IT - A grey (indian) border is visible to the north. The honeymoon is over. No contact however.

2190 BC (Turn 39) - Found Antium:Worker, there are spices just outside its borders. We should try and get some as soon as we can.

2150 BC (Turn 40) - Veii: Spear --> Settler. I know its risky but there is a great site 3 tiles from Veii and if we can grab it before contact we'll be doing well. Iron Working is due in 2 then we'll know if we have legions or not.

Notes for next player: The spear in the open is in the location for the next city. Before expansion it will have wheat and 2 BG's as well as being on fresh water. It can be a powerful city for us in the short term. Its also still at RCP 3 from Rome which is good.
Avoid contact as long as possible. Antium is at the back and a poor location atm however it can provide the workers. We need more workers (we currently have 1). In the long term (ie. with culture expansion) Antium can be good bringing in spices, 2 BG's and who knows what under that bit of jungle.
Good luck!

I got it and have time to play now. I will make a trade if possible before declaring. I think that AWE is difficult enough.

Pre-flight check: Everything looks good. I'll build the next city and prepare for war with India.

Turn 1 (2110BC): Lower science to 30%, IW in 1. Let's hope for iron!!

Turn 2 (2070BC): IW->Masonry, I'd like to have walls. Rome: archer->spear. Science to 100%. No iron in sight.

Turn 3 (2030BC): Nothing

Turn 4 (1990BC): Nothing

Turn 5 (1950BC): Again nothing, still no Indians

IBT: Indian warrior shows up!

Turn 6 (1910BC): Rome: spear->archer. Contact India, they have all techs we have so just declare war!

Turn 7 (1870BC): Nothing

Turn 8 (1830BC): Kill Indian warrior with archer who promotes to elite!

Turn 9 (1790BC): Antium: worker->barracks. Science to 10%, masonry next turn.

Turn 10(1750BC): Masonry->Math, I want cats. Rome: archer->worker, Veii: settler->walls. Science to 90%, math in 18.

I only played ten turns. I have a three months old boy, so don't have lots of spare time.

We didn't make any deals with India. So either way with the deals is still possible. Settler is on it's way to the new spot. A worker is chopping the game forest, if we irrigate it, we get Rome to grow fast and be our settler city.

The Save:

Without looking at the save I'd suggest trying to found a city on the iron as soon as possible, maybe even next. I'm resigned to a despotic GA but the sooner we have legions in the field the sooner we can start chomping on india... getting spices and ivory hooked up will also do us no end of good.

Boy we are really motoring here!

Good luck Markh!

increase science to get the wheel in 4 still at a surplus
change Antium to a worker , we just have three

IBT : Veii : archer -> settler

1) 1225BC : gathering units for an assault on Lahore

IBT : nothing

2) 1200BC : nothing important

IBT : Rome : archer -> spear

3) 1175Bc : our small force reaches Lahore for an attack next turn

IBT : the wheel comes in and we have horses already connected at Rome -> HBR in 9
Antium : worker -> archer

4) 1150BC : vet archer kills reg spear in Lahore and promotes elite, Lahore is autorazed for 3 gold

IBT : Cumae : settler -> archer

5) 1125BC : not much

IBT : Rome : spear -> settler

6) 1100BC : not much

IBT : nothing

7) 1075BC : nothing

IBT : India wants to negotiate, tupac does not allow me to do that, sorry

8) 1050BC : our raiding party reaches Bangalore
found Pompeii : catapult

IBT : Ivory is connected, lux slider goes back to 0

Veii : settler -> archer
Neapolis : catapult -> catapult

9) 1025BC : vet archer dies attacking a reg spear in Bangalore
elite archer kills the spear and Bangalore is autorazed for 4 gold and capture of a worker

IBT : nothing

10) 1000BC : just moving units

In the West where Bangalore used to be we have incense, but that's still some way to go. 3 luxes around is not bad.:)

No signs of another AI, yet.

Our turn numbers have been a bit chopped and changed, it was supposed to be 40 turns for whoever opened with 20 for each player on their first turnset then 10-from there on. We'll just go ten turns each from here in. If in the IA turns take a long time we might drop back to 5. 10 from here on now.

There is a great city place between the wheat and game 3 NW of Veii, it's three tiles from Veii, Pompeii and Neapolis.

But we should be also expanding towards the iron and legions.

Yes, that site is very nice indeed.:yumyum:

I was torn whether to send the settler there or to the spot he is standing now, but I thought better to establish the core cities asap.

I think we are not in a very hurry to connect the iron. No other civ showed up, yet and we will be able to handle Gandhi with horsemen quite well. The longer we can postpone our GA the better it is I think. Maybe we are alone with Gandhi here and we can even have our GA when we are a Monarchy. Remains to be seen, though.

I agree the longer we can postpone our GA the better.

What are the odds we are alone on the island? That would be two AW games I've started, first roll and only 1 opponent on the starting landmass, with 3 luxs as well it couldn't be true...

Yes, that would be strange somehow and both times you had Gandhi involved. Maybe he is the determing factor ?:lol:

Pre-Turn

Looking at the way the map is laid out (particuarly that big jungle to the south) I'd suggest this is probably a Pangea map (it was random remember) or a continents with us on the big one and I doubt we are alone. Its that jungle tha makes me think that...

Anyway looking at our cities, everything looks good, opt against switching Veii to a settler, I'm not sure where the currently built 1 is headed though, I would've thought he'd be on the roads. I decide to send him to claim the iron though, even if we don't connect it yet I want to be able to if we need to.

Turn 1 - Rome: Settler --> Spear, send the spear/settler pair to the spot between the game and the wheat. Move the other settler and an archer toward the iron. An Earcher form our mini-stack kills an archer losing 1 hp (1-0) but no leader. Sci down to 60% for HBR in 1 at +5gpt.

IBT - Teoutihuacan completes the Oracle.

Turn 2 - Not certain on our research path, Writing in 15 (with a view to eventually getting the GLB) or CB in 4 with a view toward Monarchy... in the end I opt for CB as its only 4 turns and the sooner we get Monarchy the better our GA will be (assuming we haven't already had it by then).
Cumae: archer --> archer
Lose 3hp attacking a reg indian archer with an Earcher of ours but...

Boom shacka a lacka!!!

pause for discussion on what to do with him.

The way I see it is go home and rush the Pyramids (rome?) wait till we have 8 cities and rush the FP somewhere, switch research immediately to Writing (no turns wasted yet) and then get lit and then rush GLB (but that would mean waiting 40 odd turns) or build an army.

I favour the Pyramids, the extra growth will do wonders for us, especially as we don't even have Pottery so we couldnt build granaries without hte pyramids :lol:

In 40 turns (the shortest time for us to get to lit) we should get another leader so we should be able to rush it later.

Your thoughts?
