Turn Discussion

I've been away from home a bit more than usual due to a family medical situation. Nothing serious, but very time consuming. Figuring out now what needs reloaded.

Okay, thanks - good to know you're around. Hope the medical situation isn't anything major and will sort itself out in time. :)

Oh, thank you DaveShack, I hope that the medical condition gets sorted quickly as well frio you family :)

Just a confirmation, but according to civstats Cavs have finished their turn...would Cavs like to confirm that on the forum?

We just finished our turn yes. I'm sure KingMorgan will report it in the Turn Tracker thread once he's done in game. Show some patience please.

 What makes you say that? It was intended as criticism against your impatience, yes, but there is a far cry from criticism to trolling.

EDIT: Though I do notice that KingMorgan is done in the game, and still hasn't posted in the Turn Tracker. He must have forgotten.

That was kinda the point; the turn timer had elapsed by 15 minutes (ie KM had ended your turn and the time elapsing was part of MSs' turn) and there had not been a post in the turn tracker thread. I didn't mean to rush you playing the turn (as shown before not posting until 15 minutes after KM had ended the turn), but if HUSch was waiting for you guys to finish your turn so he could do the first half of the MS turn before going to bed, then giving him notice would definately be kinder to him than not posting until after the cavs turn report was complete (considering the timezone difference, and that some people don't have access to civstats which is one reason we have the turn thread here)

I agree with you completely on that, actually; the post should be made as soon after hitting enter as possible. However, I'm sure that the long delay was just an oversight.

Indeed, you are right of course. KingMorgan forgot to post in the Turn Tracker thread, and you were definitely right to point it out here. I'm sorry for my antagonistic reaction, I can only blame the context of previous impatience (not yours specifically) that has gotten on my nerves somewhat.

No problem, so long as we are all on the same page. :) We are all here to have fun, after all. :)

I'm finding this game to be proceeding too fast for me to keep up with. If I'm not able to be active every single day, I am lost. Nobody else on my team has expressed concern, but I feel compelled to mention it publicly, since this is more of a 'meta-game' issue.

If I'm alone in this, I'll quietly step aside and keep my frustration to myself.

Really? I'm finding the opposite. Maybe you should switch to our team? :p

There's so little to discuss in the 2-3 day wait between turns that we're constantly twiddling our fingers and whistling while we wait for the next one... and then when that comes around, after a few hours of discussion the process repeats. Just glad we have our intra-team game, or else our private forum would see very little activity due to this slow pace.

We might have more to talk about if we received some diplomatic messages from other teams that we could discuss. But alas, it is not the case. ;)

If what you want is to play/organize 1-2 hours per day then the pace is definatly not too fast, but if you can only check every other day or something then it is hard to keep up, or even if you only got 5 minutes per day. People have different expectations of activity requiment. It do require way more attention than a regular simultanious turn pitboss, so if you can't handle that you might quickly get out of the loop. Of course things will slow down when/if the teams get more complex interactions and as such have to take longer for their turns.

It can help to have a separate "summary" thread where it's easy to catch up on recent events. We have one of those in our forum, and it's proved pretty useful during our more active periods. Basically, each turn report is posted twice: the full version in the discussion thread, where a few pages of discussion posts may follow; and a briefer version in the turn tracker thread, where no discussion is allowed.

In this way anyone who hasn't been keeping up with the game can just go and check out the turn tracker thread, and easily find summaries of what we did in the exact turns they missed. I highly recommend such a setup for other teams (if they're not already doing similar things). :)

Oh, and on an unrelated note - 3000th post! :D

Some comments/personal opinions of mine:

I think the game is definitely going at a reasonable pace, it has slowed down quite a bit in the past couple of weeks but I feel this is eeded as time goes on and we move out of the early game. Lord Parkin seems to know the answers to his own questions to me at least, - the current game situation may not be nearly as hectic for his team as some others. I can't give exact details of course but our team has a large amount of internal organization/summaries etc... and still finds tons to discuss.

Also, I have a point to bring up because it's something very curious from my perspective: How are new players integrating into the teams? I wonder if other teams have different experiences from, say, recruiting people they know specifically or have interest in other ways.

Edit: It appears I was actually under the wrong impression - looking at the sign-up thread the answer for me was that the months of February and March didn't see any new players join my team at all really - they were going elsewhere. So I guess the above should shift towards something more like: "Do other teams simply have 'ghost' players who never post/participate?"

"Do other teams simply have 'ghost' players who never post/participate?"

Yes, and the same has been the case in every MTDG I've been part of.

Indeed. You're always going to get people who are passing by the site and think "this is cool", sign up, then completely forget about it and never come back. It's just a fact of life - you can't make every random person who passes by participate in what you want them to. Especially apparent if you're trying to advertise or sell stuff, let alone if it's just a game. ;)

The thing is, we don't seem to have many new players joining. Most who have joined our team don't participate in our discussion.
