Just an idea: If you turn off postcount for Site Feedback you will reduce the amount of spam here.

Now what are the disadvantages? :hmm:

Other than reducing 2000-3000 of my posts, no effect on me...

I blame the sad, spammy state of Site Feedback on poor moderation. :mischief:

Gee I'd lose about 300 :p far less then you :p but I like Site feedback posts as counting.

Just a quick question out of honest curiousity:
Why not disable post count for all forums not Civ related?

Are posts in the OT forum included in the postcount?

Unfotunately, yes...

I fail to see the point. What is the advantage of getting your post count up? I mean, up to 300, ya, but after that . . .

I just really don't care either way . . . and fail to see the point (maybe I need better glasses . . . )

Alexnm, thank you for proving my point! :)

Well, I think that would be AMAZING!

Better still, don't show postcount and then it won't be such a motivating factor in posting. ;)

However I am realistic, and I recognise the chances not having PC for any non-Civ related fora is very small, as is the chance of getting it hidden again. For this reason I suggest Site Feedback is not used to increase postcount - this will have some of the desired effect in this forum at least.

Turn it off everywhere, cept for the Civ1/2/3 fora. Else, hide it. I dont' really know what you're talking about RE Site Feedback spam though...

IMHO this has only happened since the campaign for a separate politics forum started, which spawned the campaign for the separate science forum, and the completely irrelevent campaign for the status quo (the points made in the latter could easily have been made in the others).

Because these threads are are sponsored by the OT crowd, they have filled them in the OT style...This will go away in a week or three, and after that I hope it will be back to normal, and don't see any need to make PC not count here.

Slightly OT, I have mentioned before that my general philosophy for posting is to ask myself whether the post I am about to make actually contributes anything useful to the topic.

I firmly believe that people take more notice of you when you post to make a point, not just to increment a number. And what are people really spamming for? It wouldn't be to get noticed, would it? :crazyeye:

Spam has many causes, but one of them is the post count. I wouldn't mind if postcount was disabled altogether.

Post count is one of the causes of spam and not the only cause. IamNotEmo wasn;t spamming for postcount was he?

My thread was completely irrelevant?

As you said there were multiple threads campaigning for this and that, and yes the points for the latter were being made in those threads. I decided that it would only be fair to offer a venue for the alternate opinion. I'd like to think it helped polarize the debate and further the discourse.:(

On the other hand, when I realized I'd made my case and further posting on that issue was pointless, I said so in my thread and stopped.;)

Anyway, I meant what I said earlier in this thread. I think post count should be disabled outside of the Civ forums. I don't want to see XIII hit 10,000.

I have a couple questions:

1) Do people actually post just to increase their post count?

2) If so, why? What is the advantage to having lots of posts?

3) Is it even feasible? Is it possible to turn off the PostCount when you enter the dark dank realms of OT?

4) Will this cut down on the Spam in OT?

I just do not see the advantage for getting like 10,000 posts (except to say, "Wow, he or she either has been here for a while *checks date*, or has NO life" (no offense)) But if there are some sick individuals posting in OT sheerly for getting their postcount up to 300 for their avatar, or for bragging rights, or what have you, then I do support this. Cutting out the unecessary spam in OT is desireable. If not, then I just don't care, as I posted above.

I would like some kinda response to my questions, please and thank you . . .

3. Yes.

4. No. IAMNOTEMO(PT#) didn't do it for post count. Anyone know why he did it?

And BTW only two people have so far reached 10.00 posts. CT is most likely next. Followed most likely bt XIII.
