I still don't understand why people use it. It's been around for what, 8 years now? And it's essentially a text message sharing environment?

I'm only 41 but I get seriously luddity when I hear media-vores gush about Twitter.

How do you use it? Do you have more followers than followings? [the word "follow" looks funny! ]

I have an account, but I haven't touched it in years. Seems like it's best suited for spreading reports of important events on a peer-to-peer level, or for people who are glued to a computer screen all day.

I don't consider it a social network, more of a byte-network. Am I misreading this?

I have an account and i use it just as a follower.
I predominately follow satirical accounts and journalists.

I think 99% of twitter is utter trash. There is so much stupid on it.

I follow sports accounts and the accounts of YouTubers I enjoy. That's pretty much it.

Maybe it is worse even than FB cause it became the "cooler" social medium, so more crap gets posted there. At least FB can still be used for contacting work-related people. Although the spam level is great anyway.

Those massive sites possibly are not that good an idea. Then again having 7 billion humans (not on the internet, just the planet) is likely not a great idea either.

It's good for following certain celebrities and athletes. Ricky Gervais, for example, tweets very frequently and is pretty funny.

Yeah, I use it to follow people I like. EB and various internet critics post a lot of updates/notifications about new videos/developments on there. Some accounts, such as Colbert are extremely funny.

The best part of it is using it to follow live-tweeting events. Shows like @midnight are rendered many fold more entertaining by participating in twitter commentary.

As stupid as the vast majority of its content is, it does have its legitimate and useful uses. It's great for getting quick updates to lots of people, so it can be used to coordinate mass efforts. Similar concepts might be one of the tools used in a stateless and hierarchy-free society.

It's a good and quick way to get news from several sources, information about traffic, the weather, sports, etc. Also, I like to tweet stuff with co-workers and friends. Some parody accounts of famous people are quite funny.

I see no reason to sign up for a twitter account, nor do I know a single person off-line that actually uses it. It seems like a gimmicky service for celebrities, journalists, politicians, and companies to announce new stories, products, events, or stuff like that.

It's a good way to get updates on things like games in development, patching times, that kind of stuff, as well as keeping track of stuff going on during the offseason in sports. Thanks to twitter we usually know of signings hours before we could otherwise.

I have a couple of old friends I don't see much of elsewhere, and a couple of news feeds. Not much else.

I only created an account because one of my job assignments was to implement a "Log in with Twitter" feature for our application. I never used it to tweet, follow, or anything else except log in. And once a month or so I get a friendly message about celebs I should be following or whatnot.

So no, I don't understand the allure.

I find Twitter idiotic.

That being said, I use it for one reason and one reason only: Sports News.

It is surprisingly efficient to follow sports news, latest transfers, etc. if you follow the right people.

I use it several times a day, and it is 100% completely indispensable for my work.

If you follow the right people, it's a very effective way to create your own little AP wire.

Oh, and I follow George Takei for funny pics.
