It was unidentified when I saw it. Later I found out about ball lightening and I'm 90% sure it must have been that. I still feel pretty special for being able to observe such a rare phenomena though. Anyone else ever seen ball lightening?
I don't personally believe in extra-terrestrial life and I'm extremely sceptical of anyone who claims to have seen a UFO.
Sure, UFO's in the strict sense that there's something in the sky and you're not sure what it is. But UFO's as in alien space ships... just no, this isn't Doctor Who.![]()
I see UFOs all the time, especially at night. Are any of them from another planet? Who would want to spend their time watching us? Bored anthropologists who want to study a hopelessly backward civilization? Not likely...
Back in the 90s, I once saw a UFO hovering over Central Park after other people looking up started pointing at it. It looked like a metal sphere and may be the same as the one featured at this website.

I suspect it is a surveillance craft of some sort.
The simple fact of the matter is, as Formaldehyde points out, regardless of the argument of whether or not aliens exist and so on and so forth, assuming that they do and have the capability to reach us, why would they want to? Personally, I do think that aliens exist as a matter of pure reason considering the size of the universe, but I highly doubt they have ever visited Earth, or would have any reason to do so in the near future.
That really begs the question. If other civilizations are indeed so rare, they likely would study us a lot and be quite curious about our behavior and development. But that would also mean there are an incredibly few highly developed civilizations which are even capable of interstellar flight. The odds of them finding us would be quite miniscule unless it was a huge coincidence. If humanity went out into the stars and found a planet with alien life the first thing we would do is study it. If it wasn't habitable and useful, we'd study it a lot. Scientists like to study things. Why wouldn't alien scientists study us?
I'm not saying that you should believe in UFOs, but that's a pretty lousy reason not to. And who knows maybe alien scientists are even more dull and dry than human ones.
