When the U.S. GDP declines 50% and most of America's workers go on strike, you can pretend you have a point.

IE you won't listen to anyone else until it's far, far, far too late.

No, but comparing Chavez to Bush is absolute stupidity.

That's true, Chavez is very popular among the working poor in his country and despised by the military and indolent elites. Bush is the precise opposite.

And when the income gap shrinks and the standard of living for the bottom third of our nation increases then you can pretend like you have a democracy.

Cheerio.

If I join the army now, go into training, and we attack and win in Venezuela, is it possible that I could start up black market drug deals?

Nope, dont think that is possible, unless ur a rank of colonel or above. Else ur pretty much screwed in the field fighting "insurgents"...

Dont temp fate

The US economy has taken "significate" hit from the mishandeling of Hurrican katerina. I can easily see another "natueral disaster" or a turn of events for the US in either iraq or Afganistain and you will have your depression and chaos on the streets

The "rest of the world" will not let USA's economy falls. YET. :mischief:

Lets have a look at the statement that you orginally made

Chavez is just using the United States like the Arabs use Israel - to deflect all problems upon so that the real issues are ignored by their populations.

Here we are talking about deflecting the populations attention away from the real issues, This is a statement that is far more then just spinning information, but rather creating a "fake threat" in which for political purposes.

Chavez has been a total disaster for Venezuela, but as long as he can keep his people blind to his incompetence (arguably sadism) he'll have it in the bag.

I believe that the Bush administration incomptence , fiscal discipline, massive deficates, Two bungled wars , massive corruption and cronisim has been a disaster for the american people. (No doubt you would disagree on this point(s) your entitled to)

Meanwhile the poltical spin and skillful media manipulation has been keeping the American people blind to all the mistakes under hes leadership.

point: I do find it highly ironic the choice of words and line of attack.

I remembered a thread a while back about the US has plans to invade Britain. Doesn't mean it's gonna happen.

Apparently you are unfamiliar with the U.S. electoral process, since income has no effect on the number of votes you are allowed to cast.

I'm going to say it again: the comparison is stupid because we're talking about two very different circumstances (and two very different individuals.) If we're going to make comparisons based on only what you find to be humorous irony, then I'm going to make jokes about Stalin being the chair of the Democratic Party or Michael Mooron being the reincarnation of Lenin.

He is so full of it.

Ok fine I agree with you 100%
Its pretty much a standard line of argument.

So you would agree with me that when President Bush very recently tried to link the current war in Iraq with WW2 you would consider this to be stupid?

After all we are talking about two very different circumstances

Some Civfanatics capacity to believe the US/Bush is evil, even to the point of lapping up the rantings of Chavez, amazes me to no end.

Thats right, its what state you live in that decides how much your vote is worth :p .

No, but it does seem to dictate how much access you get to your representative and how much media one can use to blot out opposing viewpoints.

We have plans to invade nearly every country on Earth. So what? It's what we do, we make excellant plans for how to do things, and then if we think we need to at some time in the future we just pull it off the shelf, modify what may have changed (Increased arsenal and whatnot) and we're good to go.

its a real pity we dont make use of those plans, and rather let a bunch of civlians in the white house try to play general from scratch.
