In more, or less, cheery news (depending on your point of view), the NHS sold our data to a bunch of data slurpers for a load of shares that have turned out to be worthless

Seven NHS hospital trusts in the UK including world-renowned pediatric hospital Great Ormond Street appear to have lost millions of pounds following deals with an AI startup that has since delisted from AIM, part of the London Stock Exchange.

The company, Sensyne Health, is a fledgling AI business trying to discover and develop new medicines.

The NHS hospitals – Great Ormond Street Hospital; Somerset NHS Foundation Trust; University of Oxford and Oxford University Hospital; Chelsea and Westminster Hospital NHS Foundation Trust; Milton Keynes University Hospital; Royal Wolverhampton NHS Foundation Trust; and Hampshire Hospitals Foundation Trust – were among those that had signed Strategic Research Agreements (SRA) with the UK startup which involved sharing patient health records in exchange for shares in the company.

The series of deals with healthcare and research organizations were intended to see "de-identified" health records of 12.1 million patients in the UK used to "carry out research with the potential of providing new understanding and treatments for various diseases."

Sensyne's shares were delisted from AIM in May, after the agreement of a financing deal which saw the introduction of a new management team.

At least seven trusts, including Great Ormond Street Hospital, have lost out after striking deals they thought would be worth millions of pounds in exchange for sharing patient data. At the time Sensyne Health was delisted, loan notes were offered at a conversion price of 0.8 pence per share.

In a statement shared with The Register, Somerset NHS Foundation Trust said that under its deal, announced in 2020, a total of 1,428,571 shares were issued at a notional value 175p per share, or about £2.5 million (c $3 million).

According to the Health Service Journal, more than 1 million data items have been shared under the agreements during the last two years.
FYI, there is a lot of work on re-Identification. This is a review from 2011, which demonstrates its potential but shows the lack of data. There has been a lot of work since, I have not found a good review. This shows a method of quantifying it, this a way to do it from ECG's which is a bit scary. This is using a GAN which is "cool".

Still plenty of hours left for Johnson to beat yesterday's record of ten resignations in a single day.

Yeah, we got to nine 9 today at 1:45 pm.

[EDIT] No, we have just got another 2, taking today's total to 11. Bye Bye Boris.

Just on this point. If Mogg became PM it would cause a bit of a stir. He is openly Catholic - and quite serious about it.

I doubt that would be a problem with the country. It'd annoy anti-conservative social justice warriors,
but then it seems to me that most of them are already on the other side of the culture war anyway.

Well, when they're sent out to lie for No 10, outright refusing to answer questions won't endear them to the PM.

Why would they want to endear themselves to the PM?

They'd be far better off by keeping their distance.

I suppose it may be instinctual for some with the suck up, kick down mentality.

At least Eden lied in commons for a more serious issue (the Suez Canal). Boris isn't even able to organize a minor expedition to Ukraine, with Britain's fall to 3rd tier power by now.

Current resignations stand at two Cabinet members, fifteen other ministers, twelve Parliamentary private secretaries, two trade envoys and the party vice-chair. Tory MPs are openly speculating that there aren't enough gutless lackies (my words, not theirs) left to fill the ministerial vacancies.

Atm you'd have to be a gutless lackey with very short-term ambitions.

Channel 5 had it at 35 resignations.

Boris will cling to power for as long as possible, just like a piece of dirty gum stuck on the sole of your shoe.

Apparently, Grant Schapps of all people is one of the delegation waiting at No 10 to give Johnson his marching orders. Who's next, Falling Grayling??

Most of the Cabinet are there (including his newly promoted peeps). Will they actually have the guts to resign if he refuses to go?

The 1922 Committee have deferred action until the new executive is voted in on Monday, which gives Johnson a grace period, if he is smart enough to use it. Presumably, that's why the Cabinet ministers are at No 10 now.

I could honestly see him pulling out the nuclear option. Refuse to resign. And call an election. Assuming he wins the vote, presumably with Labour support. Would the queen then grant one?

Thinking is she might not if a Tory leadership election has begun, since the Tories have a majority. I don't think the Palace likes the situation at all.

Well, he's refusing to resign and is apparently planning a grand announcement tomorrow with the new Chancellor.

He must know that he's merely rearranging deckchairs on the Titanic...
