I don't think potatoes should be a bonus resource. The great thing about potatoes other than providing the highest caloric content per acre is that they can be grown just about anywhere.

What should Potatoes be instead?

There really isn't conditions where potatoes grow worse than other crops. They are extremely hardy with the exception of potatoe blight. I would suggest for a bonus resource instead to be nut trees( almond, pecan, walnut, and brazil) with maybe macadamias being a luxury.

But I still want Potatoes in the game....

Honey as a luxury. I guess with camps. Collect the honey from the bees. :mischief:
Llama as a luxury as well. First luxury from a pasture I think.

In that case why not let potatoes spawn on hills and maybe you can exclusively farm a hill early game if there is a potato resource.
P.S. we are also getting Amber, Olives and Turtles
That reminds me of Dates as well for a luxury.

Perhaps Turquoise and Turkeys could be interesting choices off the top of my head though I'm still not sure what kind of resources they should be. I also agree with adding Honey and Corn!

Sturgeon for a lake luxury resource.

Beans and Squash as bonus resources, to complete the Three Sisters.

Pitch as a strategic resource required to build Renaissance era ships.

Also some luxuries that would be gathered through lumber mills:

Cedar (luxury)

Teak (bonus)

Rare Earth Metals should be a strategic resource.

Cola and video game consoles should be manufactured luxury resources generated from Great Merchants.

Nutmeg should be included as a natural luxury resource.

It's very unfortunate that Firaxis wasted an opportunity for the Netherlands to have their own unique luxury resource: tulips.

I remember thinking that Electronics or Video Games could be provided as a Luxury by some late great game developer or such.
(I remember also suggesting the fortunately-not-late but still-great Sid Meier as providing this, but that might be a little too meta.)

Seals would make a good Luxury resource.
I feel like Poppies/Opium would be a bit too controversial to include... let's say Roses instead? Lol
And lastly, I think Fossils could be a Luxury resource that, in addition to Amenities, provides Science and Tourism. (Because paleontology and archaeology are very different things, and being a rockhound myself I was a little sore when they used a T. rex skull for the artifact symbol.) :mischief::lol: On the Earth Map, the Cree would be in a REALLY good spot for them, considering Dinosaur Provincial Park in Alberta and the Hell Creek Formation in nearby Montana, as would China, Egypt, Mapuche (being near Patagonia), and pretty much any western European country (although you might just put them on the Europe map, given that there'd be more room for them than on the Earth Map).

Buffalo should be a camp.
Nuts should use like an almond or walnut tree and be a plantation.
Maize should be a farm.
Berries should spawn in forests.
Pineapples should also be a farm as they don't grow on trees.

Lapis Lazuli should be a luxury resource improved by mines. It was used extensively throughout history, all the way back to the Sumerians
Cowrie shells would work better than generic "seashells", since they are more specific and the most precious of seashells, given they were used as money in many cultures.
Seals should be a luxury resource based mostly on coast and ocean tiles next to ice
Bison should be a basic resource. That might be what Guandao meant by "buffalo", unless he meant aurochs, which would be cool but anachronistic if the game starts at 4000 BC, but the game already includes mammoths, so whatever.
Coca should be a luxury resource that adds a tiny bit of production, since laborers in the Andes chew it to suppress pain, hunger, and fatigue, and since it alleviates altitude sickness.
Poppies too, for that matter, wars were fought over it
Salmon should be a luxury resource found in either lakes or coast that provides more food than regular fish
Agave should be a luxury resource, considering we get tequila from it, but it also has a ton of practical uses that local Mexicans know about, so it should also provide some production

While I'm on the American suite, also Quetzal since their feathers were prized by Mesoamerican cultures. It could work as a resource that came in the same DLC as the Mayans.
Obsidian should be a mix between strategic and luxury resource, cause it functioned as both in cultures such as Teotihuacan and Hawaii. My proposal is to make it a luxury resource for amenity purposes, but that any city with an obsidian mine could build units that required iron.
Yaks, camels, and caribou as basic resources, yaks spawning in hills, camels in desert, and caribou in tundra and snow. All requiring pastures.
Otters as a luxury resource that could be found either next to rivers on land or on coast
Alebrijes could be a manufactured luxury resource created by Pedro Linares as a great person

Satoru Iwata as an Information Age Great Merchant that grants the Video Games Luxury?

hmm well any recource that can be dig inside mountain , and thus would make actuall use of mountain tile

From list:
Apples quite popular choice would be.
Maize
Potatoes
Gold , diamond (could possible be dug in mountain tile)

Terrain Feature:
Bamboo

Bonus resource:
Kelp
Sesame (major source of oil, and used as a paste and seed)
Clay
Shellfish
Tomato
Llama

Luxuries:
Cochineal
Dentalia
Pistachios (could be made to generic "nuts," but pistachios are also a source of turpentine)
Almonds (again, could be made generic "nuts")
Narwhals (the Norse peddled them to the rest of Europe as "unicorn horns" :mischief:)
Mammoths (Russia made a killing on mammoth ivory acquired from Siberians; it's said that some Siberians used the meat as well, but I'd rather not think about that...)
Feathers
Linen (seriously, we have cotton and silk but no linen?)
Capers
Cephalopods (source of food, but also a source of ink that's used as a dye [sepia] and sauce)
Alpaca
Desert Glass

Chicle (spawns in Rainforest tiles, possibly can count as a Luxury resource, Chewing gum....)
Should give a penalty to amenities. I hate gum-chewers. :p

Saffron (could be under generic spices)
I'd love to see saffron as a separate luxury. Not only is it the most expensive spice in the world, but it's also a dye.
