EDIT: See post 10 (the real save is on post 17)

Hi folks. I've had this map for a while (actually, a little over a month) and have been consistently frustrated. ;) It's a map that is designed to be an [insert title here]. :) I have played this game out several times and ended up in defeat every time.

Don't worry, this game doesn't start you with a crappy leader next to aggressive AI's. That gives the human no chance and I wouldn't be wasting a thread on that. What this game does is give the human a favorable situation in his/her continent, but with peaceful AI's on the other continent to ramp up the challenge. :goodjob: In fact, I even started 2 AI's next to each other (on your continent) that are worst enemies!!!! :) It's looking optimistic, isn't it?

To make this "easy," I selected Huayna Capac as the leader. He's pretty awesome, isn't he? And check out your start!

Civ4ScreenShot0415.jpg

 That's probably a hall of fame start right there! I even had the generosity to put ocean fish which is immune to barbarian galley attacks! And I start you on a plains hill. But play out the game ... just play it out.

-------------------

Here's how my most recent game went. After this game was played, I edited the map to make it easier on the human player. For instance, I inserted a gem resource near the start. I didn't have that in the game I'm about to show in spoilers.

If you plan on playing, you might want to avoid the spoiler.

Spoiler :

That's an early Taj Mahal.

Fast forward a few turns later, and I lose in 1490 AD.

Wow, Tokugawa managed to be quite powerful in this game.

1490 AD and Mansa can research Satellites. He would have launched in the early 1600s. He also built Apollo in 1420 AD.

Good luck. :crazyeye:

Some words of caution ...

  1. When I edited this map, I tried to make it as close to standard as possible, with exceptions near capital locations. This means that you should always see corn on grassland, wheat on plains, no mountains in a capital's starting cross, etc.
  2. I have modified the capital locations in order to suit the gameplay experience.
  3. You are industrious, but have no stone or marble around. This means you might want to avoid some early expensive wonders. However, don't hesitate to try and build one. In one attempt of mine, I built the Great Lighthouse and that helped me get about 250 beakers by 1 AD.
  4. (I recommend you build the Great Lighthouse.)
  5. Do not try to beeline to Aesthetics and build wonders unlocked by that technology. You will not succeed.
  6. When you meet the other AI's on the "techer's" continent, you will be extremely far behind. Don't get discouraged! I have inserted a ninth leader in the game who is isolated. Use that AI to help catch up in tech! The isolated AI should be worst enemies with some of the techer AI's due to the base peaceweight factor.
  7. Try to get a religion on your continent. It will be hard (but doable in my opinion).

If this map proves to be too difficult, I will delete a few gold mines on the other continent. Also, I could make some immortal/emperor etc. saves.

The save has been deleted, go to post 17.

Can't play it before wednesday but i'll give it a go. It doesn't look that hard, in a random game i would have clicked this start away .

Well, that's why I made the other continent quite ... abundant with resources. I think there's 12 gold resources. I might have missed one.

Actually, the one weakness in the map is that once the superpower AI is defeated, you've probably got the game won. Hm ... probably should have given more land to the other AI's.

Well, that's why I made the other continent quite ... abundant with resources.

Not kidding about spoilers here....

Spoiler This map is so schizophrenic :

Persepolis, for example, is a sushi dream... but doesn't include clams. And it has one coastal tile in the fat cross with no resources. And the city is on a grassland hill?! why not drop it grassland rice - which would be in keeping with the food theme.

A quick scan of the Mali lands shows the occasional desert hill gold, as though the creator was concerned about making the start too overpowering. It's also clear that the creator isn't too fond of maize. Or floodplains on gold mines.

I'd have thought that Babylon would be part of the box.

EDIT: VoU, some of your suggestions have been added in the latest save.

Spoiler :
Good observations. I was thinking about adding Babylon, but thought that the other AI's would be better techs.

The thing about Darius' start ... he wastes half of the BC's building workboats for every one of his fish resources (except whales) which causes him to have 2 cities while everyone else has at least 4 (except for perhaps Gandhi). In my first attempt, he was actually the one who discovered Liberalism. In the second attempt, he was the most backwards. Hm ... it might have something to do with that barbarian city which blocked him in my game.

 A desert hill gold? I thought they were all plains hill gold. ;)

no shortage of superlatives here.

I'm going to post another one of my attempts at this game (the one in the first post is from a month ago). My parents are out of the house and I suddenly have free time!

EDIT: I tested out the save and noticed a mistake. Several AI's know each other before the game starts, so I'm going to go in the WB file and change things.

Do not play out the save in the first post! I am going to edit the save and insert the new one in the first post!

Okay, something's not right here. I tried editing the world builder save file and suddenly the game won't recognize the file.

If anyone's willing to help, the problem is that the isolated AI is already in contact with 2 AI's that he/she shouldn't be. I know I have to delete the "Contact With Team" function in the WB text file, but when I save, I can't open the new world builder file.

DMOC, I've tried it, and it works fine. Did you accidentally delete a civ's contact with itself?

Also, there is a forested coast tile up north - you might want to fix it. ;)

Here's the WB file. I'll have a run at the game once you've chosen a suitable RNG roll for the leaders etc.
The forested coast is still there. Consider it an easter egg. :)

When you generate the game from a WB file, the random parts of leaders personalities are chosen, well, randomly.
(Like peace weight rand, etc. This could affect whether the two "worst enemies" really are annoyed with each other at 0 relations)

Please use the following save if you're going to play this game out.

By the way everyone, huts and random events are OFF this game. If huts were on that would just mean the techer AI's get yet another boost.

Sorry for the confusion, everyone. This should be the last world builder modification necessary. :)

By the way, in this following save, I fixed a problem with the other continent with the "mountain" blocking bug.

New game with the new map. I rushed this but it's not bad. Up to 1 AD.

Spoiler :

Anyway, I settled in place, and teched Mining - Bronze Working while building a worker (a no-brainer decision).

Overview.
Civ4ScreenShot0437.jpg

I block Sitting Bull by founding this city here. I had to start a settler right at size 2 but it's worth it. Our land is pretty nice. This will soon be a fantastic early production city.
Civ4ScreenShot0438.jpg

And then ... I unleashed my master plan. I researched Meditation - Priesthood - Writing so that I could try and build the Oracle! I was hoping to (a) found Confucianism, (b) stop one of the other AI's from getting a free tech, and (c) culturally pressure Sitting Bull's city.

It worked, miraculously. I've seen Mansa get Confucianism in 2500 BC. :crazyeye: And look, Sitting Bull just founded a city right by my holy city! Get ready for a flip!
Civ4ScreenShot0439.jpg

Not only was Sitting Bull stupid enough to settle right by my holy city, but he also had the nerve to sneak a settler to the east of Tiwanaku and my capital! In other words, it was sandwiched by 2 of my cities!
Civ4ScreenShot0440.jpg

Well look what you did now SB!
Civ4ScreenShot0441.jpg

Unfortunately, not all was going well. Islam FIADL 1000 BC?!?!?!?!?:eek::eek:

Civ4ScreenShot0442.jpg

1 AD was when I stopped. I'm producing a solid 216 beakers per turn and am researching Paper. With a tiny bit of luck, I can win Liberalism. I guess I should switch to Caste System ASAP to generate Great Scientists for Philosophy, Education, and Liberalism. Sitting Bull and Montezuma are in a war now. I'm not sure what I'll do ... maybe beeline Rifling and take over my continent, and then go overseas to attack the others.

All right guys I gotta go and study now. I'll continue sometime later.

Spoiler :
I'm no deity, but that is very nice play getting all the continent united under Confu. Have you built the Kong? What's it generating?
