UNGY6 The health nuts

Nuclear and recycle centers.
I believe recycling centres only affect pollution directly from buildings, but the 2 :yuck: from power (from all sources) cannot be countered. Unless this has since been changed.

Yeah, you're right. Oh well, at least we get 2x 25%.

Another option is to scrap (basic) hammers and head for Internet and cottage everything (rush-buy) with emancipation. We won't have the Kremlin, but it should still be enough to win. With CR we can add some drafting and whipping on the side.

The pollution from oil and coal is associated with Factory, but noting related to the plant, hydro and nuclear are clean. So if the pollution from resources count, we either give up on factory or don't use oil and coal.

When you build a powerplant you get +2 :yuck: from "power", in addition to any from resources and coal plant. This even applies to cities without factories if they are affected by the TGD. That is unless it has since been changed.

We can build forges and factories but we can't connect power after the rc's. The pollution from power is not connected to factories but to having power in itself. A Hydro plant or nuclear plant itself is clean but you still get the -2 pollution modifier associated with oil/coal, a coal plant adds a -2 modifier of itself, that's why seemingly very healthy cities can get unhealthy after cp, at worse it's a direct -6 modifier (at least i think so, i may have got the quantity of one of the modifiers wrong but the idea of power being connected with plants is certainly right). A factory only gives pollution from the building itself and rc counters this.

The idea of going emancipation cottage everything has always been a possibility but the cost of revolting was always too high. One of the reasons why getting cr is so important imo.

Yes sorry, you're right. Strange that a factory gives the same 25% output either with or without coal/oil.The game lists this pollution as bonuses in the city screen, that's why i thought it was connected to power. This means no factories indeed or we must finish our railway net and do without coal/oil forever after building the first factory. Plants don't cause pollution but having power with any plant gives -2 unhealthiness, coal plant adds an extra -2 with coal.

Hmm...
makes me wonder if it's worth going out to ecology to build recycling plants to just get forges.
I'm thinking we're better off just beelining internet.

Cottages it is then--I don't see anyone opposing. I'll play my set tomorrow. I haven't thought about what to do regarding research yet but I'm sure it will come to me (either stagnate and gain cash while holding radio to get the wonders or something else).

I put slider to 0% hoping to trade later and save beakers. End turn and Liz gets Broadway (better her than the others). Izzy gets a GG for her war effort. More importantly Elizabeth drops into WFYABTA--the trading plan has a set-back.

Take a look at the techs to consider my options and what do you know...

KK has Radio already (and is in a golden age)! :run:
We're in a race for both the Internet and the CR, but I figure KK is the main contender in terms of constructing the wonder (GA) so I decide to trade Radio to Izzy for AL. This works out very well because we can then trade her MM for combustion the following turn (gaining a lot of beakers towards computers).

-radio+gold to Izzy for AL
-micro some trades for Broadway :) (change the export of Bren/Liz)

-MM+gold to Izzy for combustion next turn
-set slider to 100% and put research on industrialism

I decided to workshop Novgorod too in order to boost our Rock N Roll odds.

-trade mission to KK for 2100 gold.

We get a great event 1695 AD. The other options are ~600 gold and barracks +2 EP. Happiness is the clear winner here.

Good news: We can get the CR wonder if we really want to.

I played to 1705 AD and will turn it over here. We're faced with a choice--do we whip to guarantee that we get it, or do we risk it for more output?

Civ4ScreenShot0233.jpg

For me there's not much of a choice--I want to whip it for sure (despite penalties). The overflow hammers won't be useless either seeing as we want WS ASAP too.

If we're lucky we'll get RnR too--it's currently at 4 turns.

KK cancelled ivory trade (he's got industrialism).

We should be able to get some good stuff from Izzy with Industrialism.

We have railroads now (and maybe emancipation next turn)--so the workers will be busy railroading over trees and cottaging everything.

Yes, whip the CR, I won't take the risk and 6 pop is nothing for now.

It is very possible we will lose the R&R, which is the #1 pick for AI.

Nice going Rusten!

I'm also for the CR whip.

Shuye makes an interesting point about rushbuying the R & R. I'm assuming next turn we'll trade for democracy with IZ--and with luck we'll pick up rifling as well.

Looked at KK a bit in terms of happiness. He's got gems, gold, silk at 2 each, spice+HM(trade) for one +we trade him dye (2), incense, sugar.
Assuming he's got all the buildings he'll have a base of 9 (1 religion, 1 temple, col +6) and 8 happy (+1 coming)+ whatever we trade him. Eiffel Tower will give him 2 more. So R&R can be useful there-- but he'll still have 20 base if we trade him nothing. If he gets it we'll pretty much have no choice but to keep trading with him as he'll be at 22 base (with Eiffel).

I counted 9 towns and 19 specs. If we convert to US (and emanc) to rushbuy the R&R, we'll have some additional cost from the lost beakers of the specs.

After we trade with IZ, we can take FR for a spell.

Roster (based on recent turns)

Dirk: UP
Ungy---on deck
Snowly
Duckweed
Rusten

Just want to point out that if we whip some pop and lower down our score to #4, we are able to trade with Elizabeth again.
