I am scanning through the forums looking for uninstall solutions... (bought conquests against my better judgment and trying to do a fresh install of Civ3).

The few threads I have found refer to deleting info from reg...

I am not a registry expert and the search function (on forum) doesn't seem to be working for me.

Anyone have detailed instructions for uninstall solution (or a good link)?

Is there a reason that Firaxis didn't fix this in a patch? (before uninstall I was at 1.29f)

Thanks
- my OS is win98

edit
ps - its been a long time since I posted here - if I can get this expansion installed I will make a new RTNW map

I don't know of any posts dealing with this exact problem, but I can tell you how to remove the registry entries from your computer.

Click Start->Run and type regedit into the dialog box that pops up, this will open a new window.

Now if you have never opened this and messed around in here there should be 5 little folders in the left hand window, if you have opened it before it will remember where you went to and still be open there (in this case just collapse all the windows). Next open the folder HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and find the subfolder SOFTWARE. Under the SOFTWARE folder browse down through the list and find two folders:

INFOGRAMES

And

INFOGRAMES INTERACTIVE.

IF you expand those two folders they will have a list of games under them. If all you have is Civ III and Civ III PTW folders listed under the INFOGRAMES and INFOGRAMES INTERACTIVE folders then just delete those two folders, otherwise delete all the Civ folders.

Also if you want to delete file associations, collapse the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE folder and open the HKEY_CLASSESS_ROOT folder, then scroll down to the .BIC and .BIQ entries and delete them.

That will delete everything except the editor information, which is primarily only used when you open .BIC and .BIQ files. Leaving the editor information in the registry should not cause any problems with a reinstallation.

Also, it is important to note that if you have any Civ related stuff in quick folders, shortcuts, recently used files or other remember for me type places those entries will also be in the registry.

For both of the above issues, should you chose to get rid of them you can hit CTRL-F and type in “civ” and hit enter, that will take you to the first civ entry, make sure that it is related to Civ III and delete it, then press F3. Simply repeat until there is no more Civ III entries.

In addition, be sure you delete the InstallShield Information folder. The InstallShield Information folder is located in Program Files and is hidden, so you'll need to turn on show hidden files in Windows Explorer.

Thanks to zulu9812 for this hint. ;)
