Union of Newbies

mabye this is to much of a newbie question but how exactly to i contribute to the demogame? or gain office, i've read the help thingy but im still a bit confused

I'll join..as a n00b, of course. I just joined recently, but I frequent the site and have been following the history of Fananatica..nan (?) since the dawn of their civilization.

I will sign up as an experience player, and also ask acouple of questions for the newer players:

1) Did you understand the idea behind the Demogame when you first looked?

2) Were you able to find the Citizen Registry, etc. easily enough

3) What was quite possibly the thing that kept you the most from joining?

4) Does the current help threads (Demogame FAQ) help at all, or did you not see them to even read them?

-------

That's not all I can think of to ask, but if you could please answer those questions, it would aid me in some ideas/plans that I've been thinking of attempting for awhile now.

Also, as always, you are free to PM me about anything and everything you want to know about the Demogame.

That is a question that varies upon the person (hope that's not to confusing). The largest thing you can contribute is just to post in discussions and vote in polls. Don't just say "I support ???" Tell why you supported it. Defend your comments aggresively, but be open-minded and always think of possible ways to take the best out of both.

This is a hard question to answer, because (as I said earlier) it varies from person to person. I hope I answered it sufficiently though.

I got my start by looking for an area which wasn't getting the full attention of the elected leader, and helping to push that area along. One thing I found was essential was to reassure the responsible parties that I wasn't trying to usurp their power. Many newcomers post in the government thread for the department they're most interested in, to volunteer to take on some small responsibility. All of our leaders are volunteers, and we have a lot of turnover due to changing real life needs.

I'll agree with Strider that another way to get started is to post meaningful content on the discussions of in-game items. Take a look at the current save and look for important facts that aren't getting mentioned. Finding one of those and bringing it to the public's attention will result in getting noticed right away.

where could i find the save games? where is the foreign affairs thread? or is there even a thread for that?

The current save is commonly found at the beginning of the instruction thread for the next play session. For your convenience here is a link to the thread for April 23. In the first post is a link to the actual save itself.

The External Consulate thread is where foreign affairs can be found. In general, the Government subforum has all of the office threads.

I was going to say that you can find all the saves in the "Turn Chat Info and Starting Times Index", but it doesn't appear to be up to date for this term.

Alternatively, you will find the saves in the Turn Chat Instruction Threads, the latest one of which is here (for Saturday) and the latest save (450BC) is listed as the starting save in the first post.

There is no specific Foreign Affairs thread, Foreign Affairs planning is dealt with by the External Consul so you'll need to look in the External Consul's thread in the Government Forum.

edit: cross posted with DaveShack

The idea behind the demogame seems pretty easy to grasp, and I found the Citizen Registry with no problem at all.

As for my hesitation to join...I just wanted to see how things worked and get an idea for how the Demogame is played before signing up.

And the FAQ...I haven't read yet...

The Notary of Names seeks an apprentice. I will be unable to perform duties during most of Term 3 and someone else will need to help out the president.

One immediate duty would be to determine if/how many unnamed military units we currently have to assst the president in renaming these.

Term 3 would be responsible for posting city names for founded or captured cites in each Turn Chat Instruction thread.

I would like to post this opportunity for a newbie to get some name exposure and a track record of dependibility and competence. This is a chance to make the DP's job easier by posting accurate info on renaming military units. If you have access to the save you can do a better job at this than I have in the past as I've needed to rely on the chat log and on other people to know when to rename units.

I think it's about time we start getting some help threads out there for newer players. So I'll start it off:

The Democracy Game Workings and Getting Started

What is a democracy game?

The democracy game is a mock government based off of a civilization inside of any of the civilization series games. The registered players (called citizens), elect leaders to aid in the playing of this game. These leaders decide what the citizens want to do inside of the game. Several leaders are charged with the actual playing of the saved game.

This Democracy game is based off of Civilization 3 Conquests, and is the 6th democracy game based off of Civilization 3.

How do I get started inside of the game?

The first step in getting started is to make a post inside of theCitizen Registry. Once you have done that (you are now a citizen of the democracy game), you can take part inside of the discussions located inside of the Citizens Forum. Another way to get started inside of the game is to vote inside of policy polls located inside of the Polls Forum. After you've got yourself a good start, it might be a good idea to look at our current government and policy's located inside of the Government Forum.

Here is a basic low-down on what each forum includes:

Citizens Forum
  • Policy discussion threads.
  • Discussions over our current rules*
  • Citizen Groups**

*There are certain rules that must be followed when playing the democracy game. These may be found inside of the Demogame Consitution thread.
** Citizen Groups are organizations started by a citizen that attempts a certain task. A list of current Citizen Groups can be found in the Citizen Group Registry

Government Forum:
  • Government threads*
  • Naming and Election Offices
  • City threads

* Government threads are threads created by an elected official. These contain the current policies.

Polls Forum:
  • Policy Polls
  • Polls over rule changes
  • Information/citizen pulse

This is not even close to being finished, I just want some comments first. (and I have to take a shower and goto the bathroom  )

what is the multi site demo game?

Added to the docket to explain out in another update. Any other comments?

Here's what I have to add:

RPG Forum Description

Multisite demogame description

Description of each elected office (I'm not the best person to do this one, so anyone want to voulanteer? I'll handle the Judicial/Governor poistion, but the others I shouldn't be doing)

List of PMable people for extra questions (start voulanteering now!)

Article descriptions and meanings (constitution)

Juducial Procedure descriptions

List of Commonly Used Terms

-----------

That's all I can think of, anything the rest of you can come up with?

Strider,

Good idea! You may want to include info about the main forum (TCIT's, TC schedule, TC summary, nominations/elections).

Some of this info is in the faq and the information office. To avoid clutter, perhaps all this could be combined in one?

Well, with this I'm just trying to go over the basics. Give people a general idea of how things work, and help introduce them into the game itself.

This is an idea I've been trying to push through for awhile now, but the large majority of my proposals which contained this were refused (although I doubt a single one of them were read throughly).

for some strange reason i cant open the save on my computer, is there anyone who i can ask questions about the save too.

As per the Freedom of Information article, you may request any information from a leader, and they have to supply the said information. Of course, it has to be under an area that they control. Other than that, I don't have C3C on my computer right now. So sorry :(
