Unique unit elimination thread

I would also like to point out that people seem to be judging the units in a vacuum. All units make sense in the broader picture regardless of their apparent strength. Case in point the crouching tiger: It's the best city defense unit in the game for a largely peaceful civ = it's awesome at what it's supposed to do. If you judge it harshly because of its range, for example, you are just doing it all wrong. That said, moving on to the votes.

Berserker (Norway) - 2 (5-3) Regardless of the fact that it serves the purpose of pushing for those cities unreachable by the knarr (a sort of plan B), it's just plain ineffective. Sure it plays second fiddle to the other unique unit, but that does not mean it isn't bad.

Wow, I am rusty! :) Do I quote or reply? I have my choices ready, but I'm not sure how to put them on the wall, without messing things up? Sorry.

You can edit your post tomorrow or the next person will fix your wrong bits in their post but cannot change your post... so if you can change now it helps others

In general, I think I would eliminate the UUs that only unlock from the civic tree because you can't upgrade into them and it also forces you to keep your culture up higher than you may like otherwise. The only exception for me might be Redcoats since you can get free ones.

Any swordsman replacement should stick around for a while. Even the Georgia swordsman (though it was already eliminated) because you don't need to find iron to make swordsmen which is a big deal when you likely are still growing cities. I have a big soft spot for any swordsman UU because of that, even if it's the Kongo swordsman which is a little junky.

I don't see the Eagle Warrior not winning. A very powerful UU for a very powerful civ.

Saka Horse Archer (Scythia) - 8 (11-3): From how I would set up for war and to take cities, I'm pretty sure I would rather use archers (later crossbows) to support Scythia's horseman rush. It's not the range I dislike, it's that the SHA can't be upgraded until Ballistics.
Samurai (Japan) - 19
Varu (India) - 22 (21+1): Just having a couple on the frontline makes every skirmish easier.

The Georgia UU is not a Swordsman replacement, and cannot be upgraded to.

Sea Dog (England) - 14 (17-3) The Civilpedia should read: “Can capture units the AI rarely builds. No other strengths.” Every Civ gets era score from their UU, so that doesn’t count. Doesn’t make England better in any way, and they need tons of help after the nerf bat.

A vote from earlier up the page was skipped by others, so my numbers may not exactly match the previous vote. They should be correct though.

Berserker (Norway) - -1 (2 - 3) ELIMINATED. Basically, has the same problem as Khevsur - very situational, is at the dead end tech, can't be upgraded to, already obsolete when you get to them. Well, at least there is some use for them in the right situation, which probably explains why Khevsur went earlier.

It was until the De Zeven Provinciën entered the room ;)
