Unit Requests: Steampunk

People, prod me if I don't do work on that tower. Ii tend to forget with exams and what-not.

1. Take a book you need to study and read the first paragraph under the heading of each Chapter and Sub-chapter (and sub-sub-chapter if it's a difficult subject) aloud into a recording device. 2. Play back the recording to yourself while you work on the Tesla unit. 3. Find a quiet place and read the book all the way through, including the parts you'd left out, then take a good nap.

Do that, and you will pass any test based on that book, without notes; I guarantee it. Playing subject appropriate instrumental music softly in the background while you read and listen to your book helps, too; it's a mental lubricant. Advertisers know that well, of course.

'that book' is the Argentine civil code, with over four thousand articles of its own plus additional, complementary and supplementary laws and decrees. Not gonna work.

High protein & lecithin. As in a burger with cheese. Steak with cottage cheese on the side. Or whatever you fancy. Good for study. Taken about an hour to an hour and a half before the test improves brain function (accelerates synapse firing) enough to increase focus and improve recall.

Couple pics to help decide:

Which one looks better? One has six sides and the other has eight. Seven might look good but I'd rather have an even number of sides, makes my life easier. Do you want windows and such or will it be closed like a fortress?
I read Earthlight long ago, this reminds me of the fortress the Moon people built.

Ah, cheese burgers! :yumyum:

Erm, yes, they're the two renders of the same two props, set to Smooth and Solid.

Thoat update:

Some thoat artwork appeared more as a horse; I went easier route for me:

Semi-close to movie model used and some other thoat-art. None-the-less, I could probably finish a riderless small/large thoat in full tomorrow using this. Let me know of anything you see for adjustments, etc... and I'll try to git-r-done 2morrow.

I was thinking same thing with those blocky things on back. Those can be removed and it can be recolored easy enough. I wasn't sure if the horse look was more suitable for steampunk accuracy.

I could probably get/make a 8 leg horse, but might take longer and alot more work, can't gaurantee anything. Is a horse-like creature more preferred?

I can always work on something else in the meantime. Tak, still working on the tesla thingy? I could animate the model if you don't have time to; looks cool.

EDIT: Something I stumbled on if you guys have a use for it; a steampunky spider

IMHO it should not be too horse-like. The feet are described as neither clawed nor hooved. The look you've got doesn't show claws at game -scale. Stubby, flat yet flexible toes make sense for traction in Martian sand / shingle. Head & tail sound match the written description fairly well. If you change the color leave the horns/fangs the color they are now. Leaves a slight suggestion of evolutionary connection to Tharks - the way most mammals share some vaguely defined characteristics.

Which is a fancy way of saying that your model works, imho.

No no, that model looks fine, great even. It's only the coloring that could use adjustment, i.e., it should be grey with yellow feet & ankles (the yellow would fade as it goes up the leg) and a white underbelly. I have no idea why the Disney/pixar artists didn't make those simple changes for accuracy's sake. Maybe no one asked. Maybe it conflicted with the awful yellow dirt of Utah. We won't have that problem, as our Barsoom is Martian Red/orange.

Looking at the pics you posted, it occurs to me that a very small (squashed?) version, colored just as you have it now, and without the horns, would make a reasonably accurate Calot as well.

Edit: I think we're all posting at once.. cool, but confusing. There was a species of Upside-down spiders described in the John Carter Books - the inspiration for Bowie's Spiders from Mars, iirc.

Didn't catch that edit at first. Need a mechanical walker at some point for several of the scenarios. That thing with steam/smoke from the two stacks would be cool. Gattling gun / flame thrower from the snout?

Would make an interesting opponent for Kinboat / Vuldacon's spiders. Maybe give it a little weaker attack & a little better defense so they really duke it out.

kk... can do, thx for input :)

And not sure if you still need a Dr. Mabuse or not... I think you still have it listed on page 1 and have it here (cagliari was listed, which plotinus made a vict. gentlemen similar to), but I found this as well:

DrMabuse.jpg

I can make him a crazy looking guy with messed up hair that hypnotizes... but I don't know the background story... it sounds like he hypnotizes others to make more Dr. Mabuses'?

If you need still, I can add it to the list. I can recolor as needed, take off glasses, w/e...

edit: good idea for calot! Quick and easy!

Your Mabuse is a great idea. And the Calot looks very good. Really good. I like the way it moves.

Dr. Mabuse is a charmer, isn't he? In the Fritz Lang films, he usually hypnotizes others to do his bidding. He possesses (inhabits) the bodies of his victims, and causes them to do evil. Since we can't do that, perhaps he can just stare them to death. In the Steampunk Mod he becomes available along with the Mental Institution.
