Unit requests thread

Thank you very much - I rememdered there has been a request once, but I thought it was never answered. Now I see I was wrong.
I think any kind of football player will do (the face is not that important). Maybe the great scientist animations (with some kind Cup instead of the laborytory flask) would be great.

Conserning the female version it is difficoult to find an image, because there were no female atletes in ancient greek. Perhaps there is a roman settler female settler unit were a Laurel wreath can be added to make her a champion. (the one from this pack may do).
And the female modern one, I think something like Steffi Graf or another tennis player could be fine. I am not sure which animations could fit for this, maybe the ancient great artist. I think, it is not so important, but if she has a tenis racket it would be fine. all of this sounds like much work, I hope it is not to much for you.

Hello all, (Hey SaitbotLieh! :) )

I'm back... for a while anyway.

I must admit after much frustration with Nifskope and Blender on my Mac, I had given up on this project.

As you know, it takes a lot of time to skin all the units and make sure they work well, but with the time it takes to learn Nifskope and Blender too, with work commitments and little spare time, it just ate into my spare time on this project which could of been spent doing what I do best - skinning units.

The lesson for me here is to stick to what I am good at. I am therefore afraid my Pictish Civ may never be complete... unless SaibotLieh, and anyone else, is still interested in assisting and can occasionally help with some simple modelling now and again.

For now, I am going to start uploading completed units, so that in case the Civ is never finished, at least the units are there. Please visit my page to download. I will be uploading units as each is finished. Currently I am uploading Ancient, Medieval, and Modern workers and settlers.

Many thanks for all the help and enthusiasm on this little project (especially from SaibotLieh and Jamie), and sorry it has taken yet another year. All the best. Anaerin.

Hey, good to see that you are still around. Just post what you need assisting on, I will see if I can help. :)

Thanks SaibotLieh. I think I finally found some female units that may work the way I want them too but might need a slight adjustment by deleting some polygons... I'll pm you on that one. ;)

Hello, I have kind of a big request... I noticed that most Japanese units only really cover the Sengoku period, and leave out stuff like Yayoi and Nara. So I was wondering, would anyone be interested in making any of these units? Any of these two spearmen would be cool, and this swordsman, axeman and archer would be nice too. Thanks :)

Hey Guys, I'm trying to reskin a unit based off the joker. I have most of the skin done, but I could not get blender to work in order to edit the model itself. Could someone help me fix the model? I would like the pauldrons on this model to be on both shoulders instead of one, preferably symmetrical.

Also, could someone fix the clipping issues for the loincloth on the back?

I'm not sure if this last point is important, but does the orientation of the feet matter on units? They appear to be skewed instead of flat on the ground. If that would impact how the unit looks ingame, could someone straighten the feet?

Thank you guys for your help in advance, I really wish I could get blender to work to sort these issues out myself.

Hi SaibotLieh,

I have been stuck with the Pictish Braves unit for a while as haven't found a female unit that fits very well and still a couple issues with the male braves which I am sorting. I was going to privately post this to avoid controversy til the units are finished (as there really is no fuss and not much to see - units are in historical good taste) but couldn't figure out how to add images or attach a file.

I think I may have found a unit that might work for a female brave. It is an amazonian spearwoman (might be one of yours edited by someone else). Most of the body could be skinned as though without clothes (though covered in warpaint and tattoos), though the skirt would need to be removed in order to achieve that, and not sure how possible that is. I don't want to cause you too much work.

I've also attached an amazonian archer, which may also be ok if the skirt can be removed.

Let me know your thoughts and or any suggestions. :) Thanks

Salutations.

I am new here, so perhaps I am missing the pre-existing unit but I have been looking over the extensive archives in the last few days and I am wondering...

Do any of you have an armored medieval Arab (or any ethnicity that would fit the middle east in general) with a flail? I see lots of macemen, but all of them have the more traditional mace (metal ball on a stick) and I am looking more for the chain variety as seen in the vanilla maceman. I've found one for every other cultural group, and I would be loathe to reuse the African one for this.

If it doesn't exist could I cajole someone into making one for me? Thanks for any assistance in advance!

Hi Anaerin,

these are indeed units create by me, some of the first ones actually. Since they are based on the spy model I just replaced the legs with the original again. I have put the modified units in the attachment, enjoy! :)

I've added the second pauldron and fixed the feet. The clipping issue might need some more work, but I at least removed some unneeded polygones which might help with this problem.

Enjoy. :)

Fantastic. I'll try these out and start skinning them... getting closer to finalising those Pictish braves!! :) Quite proud of the job we've done so far and looking forward to showing you the end result!!

I'm also trying out a couple different Druid missionaries to finalise the Druid religion I've been working on. I have one idea I want to try by converting the Buddhist monk a little. I've played around by skinning him, but I wonder if his chest can be swapped easily?

Currently his robe flows over his left shoulder... is there a way to easily reflect the skin so it flows over his right shoulder?

Hey SaibotLieh, I know this isnt the place for leaderheads, but as weve been working on this pictish civ, i thought I'd post this here or you may not see it.

I'm also trying to create a new Pictish leaderhead for the Caledon tribe. As I am not a modeller, the challenge is always to skin the unit well so that it does not look like the original. In this case i am trying to take the base Julius (who always looked like a softy) and turn him 'bad-ass' into "Cae" [Ce], one of the sons of Prydyn [Cruithne in Irish]. The skinning so far is just experimental and done very quickly, though am happy with the Tartan so far. It still needs a lot of work, but there are a few things I can't do. I wonder if these are even possible:

1. I would like to try a version with him bald so I can tattoo his scalp... I tried turning blue but you can still see his roman hair... I'm guessing the hair cannot be removed? In which case I need to think of something else. (possibly a wolf head or bear head to cover the roman hair)
2. I want his left eye to be white like a cataract (destroyed by the bear claw [actually a bit like Koba in dawn of the apes]), while his right eye is blue or green. So far on the skin, there is only one blue eye used for both. Is it possible to have the eyes separate colours? Maybe by using a seperate .dds file for the other eye?
3. I'm experimenting with using other animations for Julius instead of his own. This picture was using Ragnar, though it kinda works it does distort his eyebrow a bit too much... I thought of using Pericles as a base as I think he also has a sword animation which would suit this character. My question is two fold:
a: If I go with Pericles as the base, can his clothing be removed to be replaced with Julius toga? (I am thinking this is not possible).
b: if not possible, and I use Julius as the base, is it possible to install the sword into Julius and have Pericles sword animation?

What do you think?

Modified unit and leaderhead are attached. :)

For using different animations for a leaderhead, this should be helpful. If the animations are not compatible, it should also be possible to completely rig a leaderhead to a different set of animation, might just be some larger work with NifSkope and/or Blender involved.

I'm unsure where exactly to post this, so I'll post it in the civilisation requests thread, the graphics modification requests thread, and the unit requests thread. I'm only asking for graphics though, not code.

Leaderheads (all animated; I can make a static leaderhead by myself):

Kane, from Command & Conquer (the Tiberium universe, that is). Here and here are two examples. Preferably with a background very similar to either of those two examples.

Redmond Boyle, again from Command & Conquer. For example, here. the background doesn't matter much, so long as it fits (which the given example does; GDI is blue-ish in this game).

Jack Granger, once again from Command & Conquer. Here and here are two examples. The background, as shown by the two examples, would have the same style as Redmond Boyle's one (though different, of course), but as with Redmond Boyle, you're free to do whatever you want so long as it fits.

Alexander Romanov, still from Command & Conquer, but from the Red Alert universe, not from the Tiberium universe. Two examples are here and here. I'd like the background to be similar, with a Soviet flag, and a globe if you can fit it in, but if someone feels like cooking up his or her own suitable office, be my guest.

Yuri, also from Command & Conquer. As usual, two examples. Feel free to create your own background for him, although I'd suggest the device on the first picture makes for a good background.

Michael Dugan, the last one from Command & Conquer, with two examples. I like the first picture, but I'm not entirely sure what the flag on it is, and I suppose the second picture would look better. Feel free to think up something by yourself.

Units:

Securitron, from Fallout (New Vegas), here.

Zone Trooper, from Command & Conquer (Tiberium Wars), here and here. This unit would replace the Paratrooper, but instead of using a parachute, this unit would use a jetpack to fly to another tile when paradropping. If that isn't possible, perhaps the unit could land with some kind of orbital drop pod? If that also isn't possible, oh well, too bad. Ideally, this unit would attack with white-blue laser beams (well, railguns, but they look like lasers), but it doesn't really matter.

Black Hand, from Command & Conquer (Tiberium universe), here, here, here, and here. As you can see, there's a flamethrower variant and a laser variant. Ideally, this unit would attack with a mix of flamethrowers and red laser beams, but assuming you can't create multiple units / models for one 'unit group' (you can select single display in the options menu), pick the one you like best.

Kirov, from Command & Conquer (Red Alert 2 / 3), here. This unit would replace the Airship - I'd imagine (but have no idea really) that an airship-like unit requires different files than ordinary units.

Chrono Legionnaire, from Command & Conquer (Red Alert 2), here and here. This unit would also replace the Paratrooper, but instead of paradropping, this unit would teleport. If that is at all possible, of course. The unit would ideally attack with a chrono beam, instead of ordinary guns, but that doesn't really matter.

Well, that was a lot. Feel free to do whatever you want of this list, including nothing at all. Thanks in advance! :)

Do not know who did the portation, but if it helps, the model is from Pirates!. Here is a NifSkope image of original model:

Hi SaibotLieh / all, I tried to import further models, but the blender (import) nif-script does not work with models from Pirates.

Do you have an idea how to import models from Pirates into blender?

Regards

Schmiddie

P.S. By the way: I did some imports from Civ5...feel free to use the units in your mods: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=524860

I never tried to import the ship models into Blender to be honest. Have you already tried to export the nif as obj with NifSkope and then imported the obj into Blender?

Also, good work with the Civ5 to Civ4 conversions. :)

That's great SaibotLieh!! Thanks !!

I've almost finished skinning Cae and quite like how he is looking. I am away now for the next 2-3 weeks but will be picking this up as soon as I get back and finalising a few more things. Thanks again for the help :)
