Hey I looked at the civipedia, and the tech tree and even added loads of units through world builder to have a look at them, and I cannot make heads or tail of the unit lines. Also why do they all have 2 values?

Could someone explain the basic lines to me?
e.g. (in regular civ)
Anti-Melee; Axeman -> Maceman
............................-> Crossbowman

I wouldn't normally ask but I am kinda taking a crash corse in this mod and trying to learn it all quickly so I can be more helpfull :)

As far as I can tell, very much stuff that was done in the old version (warlords) of this mod has still to make it into this one.

(I can't even get out of the ancient times. it takes so long!)

So much of the content is still in limbo, the first pop-up said it all:
"...this mod still requires much hard-core testing..."

hang in there. ;)

ive made a new Unit line idea and was hoping to get approval from others that i can go ahead

Spoiler :
Generic unit line:

Darkelf unit line:

Notes:
-replace the druchii halberdier by the druchii drannach and put a druchii spearmen to tier 2.
-Would move druchii repeater crossbow by druchii Uraithen warrior.
-remove the cauldron of blood, make it a building.

Highelf Unit Line:

I had a quick go whacking up some generic lines, with techs and there role in the fighting :)

My main ideas really are the role of horse archers, and crossbows.

Spoiler :
Archery................Archer................city defence
Invention .............Crossbowman ......City defence
..................................................Melee Foot Counter

Engineering..........Longbow..............City Defence
.........................................Ranged Cavalry Counter

Iron Working.........Axeman...............Melee Foot counter
Militarism .............Halbardier............Melee Foot counter

Gunpowder..........Handgunner..........Collatoral Damage

Bnz. Working........Spear ................Melee Cavalry counter
Mil. Training.........pikes..................Melee Cavalry counter

Adv. Smithing......Sword ................City attack
Mil. Tradition.......Sword2 ...............City attack

........................Melee Cavalry........High Strength + movenment
..................................................-ve for city attacks

........................Ranged Cavalry......+ against Melee Units

EDIT: I like your unit lines though PL, more complete than mine, but what is the difference between chariets and Cavalry?

you mean whats the difference between chariot and cavalry in game? the same difference that is in vanilla and FfH

EDIT:

im not sure i follow your unit lines. do the units upgrade fro mthe top down?

yeah, from the top down.

Other than archers upgrading to both longbows and crossbows its just upgrading to the one below on the same line.

I hadn't put in all the cavalry yet, just the idea of having ranged cavalry as a seporate unit type to see if you liked it. Although I did forget how important chariots are in Warhammer.

yeh chariots are quite significant to many civs in WH

Khemri are a very chariot orientated race, and the new Highelf White lion pulled charios are just too cool not to include. the darkelf coldone charios, greenskin chariots etc.

I think I prefer your lines, but I think 4 might be too many upgrades. Don't know though, what do others think?

PL what do you think of the ranged cavalry idea?

i think there are 4 teirs in the tech tree arn't there? thats why there are 4 teirs of units.

well ranged cavalry as a sepperate unit type could have some tactical advantages. but im not too sure if there is much need for it.

hey, dont let me stop you from brainstorming on ranged cavalry, i actually know nothing about unit types, i was just guessing :p

feel free to change my suggestions around. i need eedback fom people, because thats just an idea at the moment

I don't really have a good idea for each unit (your lines are good) but how about this for what each line is good for?

Also I think that not all weapons should be available to everybody. E.g. could we please get rid of cannons and gunpowder units from the brets?

Spear line +100% vs Heavy Cavalry
Axe line +50% vs Melee
Archer line +25% city defence +50% ranged cavalry
Crossbow line (+melee)
Handgun line (+melee?)
Swordsman (+city attack?)
Guards
Ranged cavalry +50% vs melee
heavy cavalry (could we give these guys a higher than normal streagth but a negative on the city attack?).

Also as the early ages of warhammer were fairly advanced (is the first era ment to be when Khemri and that were around?) then could we move Iron working later on in the tech tree? Maybe if the second line started appearing there then the second line could be 'Armoured' whatever and then the third could be the Malitia and the current third line could become the new fourth line.

Crossbows would be good against armoured units (heavey knights and guardsmen? but there is no unit class for those. so just melee and city defence like you say. same goes for the handgunners. Guards would have a good city defence. is the Heavy cavalry the same as mounted unit class?

dont worry about the gunpowder units being avaliable to wrong civs at the moment, each civ will get their UU replacements eventually (bretonnia will get the trebuche replacement for cannons, and probably an extra mounted unit replacing the gunners.
