* New tile system: irregular pentagonal

Wow!

Thanks for that.... it is exactly what I was looking for as an alternative to square/diamond tiles for another game I've been designing for fun.

I suppose corporations will be fixed in this expansion, so:

Corporation: Mercenaries Inc.
Can be founded by Navy Seal.
Unrestricted opportunity to conduct any activity, military and otherwise, in any part of the irregular pentagonal world, without fear of any kind of legal action against the corp.
Cost: 750.000.000 :gold:.

The corporation could also be named Blackwater USA.

Are you just trying to sound clever by throwing those terms out? Such as like everywhere South Africa and the Iraq and all the Asian countries to build up a future for your children?
Clever. Did you come up with that all by yourself?
What have facts from military history got to do with all those? And - the perfect time to say this - just look at how Iraq will turn out
Yes, look at how something that hasn't ended yet will turn out. There's some French military thinking for you: "It's hopeless! Everybody run!"
Also, ironically, you mention origin, for which the US owes quite a bit to France.
We owe a lot to Louis XVI, who the French people killed. The way I see it, we don't owe anything to the people who killed the guy who helped us.

Without the French you'd never have had your independence... I'd say you have a lot to be grateful for... your entire national identity is not nothing!

There's some French military thinking for you: "It's hopeless! Everybody run!"

Pointless unfounded comment... again, if they'd have run when you needed them... where would you be now? The French have a far longer and more impressive military record than the U.S. by any quantitive or qualitive assessment - bear in mind the centuries of warfare prior to the Americas even being discovered by Europeans.... I do wish you fellas would get some perspective rather than throwing unfactual stones just for the sake of trying to wound.

But anyway - more importantly.... you guys need to stop dragging your serious stuff into this otherwise fun thread! :p

Take it to PM's if you just want to spit at each other.

... prior to the Americas even being discovered by Europeans.... I do wish you fellas would get some perspective rather than throwing unfactual stones ...

Ops ... Talking unfactual: Discovered by whom? Have you discussed this with Montezuma, Pacal, Huayna Capac and Sitting Bull?

And by the way:

Tech: Flat Earth.
Starting tech for every civ.
50 % chance for naval units dropping off the edge.
Obsolete with circumnavigation.

Tech: Ymir's skull.
Starting tech for Vikings.
50 % chance for air uints hitting the roof.
Obsolete with circumnavigation.

:crazyeye:

You see that part where I said....

Spearthrower said:

Bold added..... discovery by Europeans doesn't preclude discovery by others.... anyway, saying that the Incans, Aztecs, Sioux "discovered" the Americas is even worse when they were indigenous to it..... it's like waking up in the morning and deciding that you have discovered your own country!! :crazyeye:

Next time you discover a new restaurant that you'd never seen before... think about that sentence again! ;)

Shouldn't Flat Earth be a civic rather than a tech. That way, if the anti-globalization movement is successful, you are forced to switch back to Flat Earth.

(Actually I had already changed my signature before writing this post)

Tech: Self Discovery.
10% chance for civs to discover their own country after waking up in the morning.
Obsolete with satellites.

My point was moreso that the French of the late 1700's aren't the French of today. I don't owe modern French people anything, just like I don't owe reparations to families that had been enslaved. I wasn't there, I didn't do it.

I was only responding in kind. He was making the same kind of pointless and unfounded attacks against another poster and I'm a staunch supporter of eye for an eye.

The United States has an incredible military track record, by the way. We've lost one war ever: 1812 (unless you consider Vietnam a war, which it really wasn't, and even then we could have won if we didn't have a serious case of the hippies). The French are very hit-or-miss, and furthermore have a record of much more warmongering than the United States does.

So the bottom line is this: jokes that make fun of the French are as acceptable as those against anyone else. :p There have been tons of anti-American jokes in this thread and none of the Americans did any complaining.

I agree wholeheartedly really.... but, with no offense intended, I all too often hear the American epithet of "we saved your butts" and it does seem fitting to reply along those lines! ;)

Losing wars is character building! ;)

Anyway, I didn't mean to point only at you, but I do wish we, as a forum, could stop making derogatory statements against members based on their nationality.... it's really tiresome.

Good point. But then we need a new group of five civics, where the basic one should be a shorter version of something like "The world is what I see in the light of my camp fire" and the second or third "Flat Earth".

I think there's a certain validity to trying to say "well, see what American culture has done in the past" rather than saying "see! We're great because people who aren't me did something 50 years ago!"

Of course, as an American, I'm mostly just ashamed of the fact that the United States sat on the sidelines watching other people die without doing anything about it for so long, and only intervened once we were attacked personally (I blame FDR).
