Some parts are. Especially those untouched by the damn communist brutalism. I mean, what kind of idiot drops a ten story tall black brick right in the historic center?

Brazilian favela ‘shack’ wins ‘house of the year’ award



A two-storey house in a Belo Horizonte favela has won an international architecture prize for its ingenious design.

The house, built on a small lot dos Anjos purchased in 2017, is well ventilated and enjoys abundant natural light; it features horizontal casement windows and a large terrace.

“The design of the house represents a constructive model that uses common materials in the slums, with an adequate implementation and attention to lighting and ventilation, resulting in a space with great environmental quality,” ArchDaily wrote on its website.

For dos Anjos, who founded a cultural centre in his community, the prize carries special significance.

“I know my house isn’t the most chic in the world, but it’s a well-built shack,” he says with a grin.

Dos Anjos has been living there since 2020, along with two dogs, a cat and more than 60 plants.

The McLaren Technology Center in Woking, Surrey, and the Brunswick Center in London were used for location-shoots for the Star Wars series Andor. If you're a Star Wars fan, I believe both were on Coruscant.

I did not see anything that made it clear than Syril Karn's mother lived on Coruscant, but I could very easily have missed it.

There is the other bit of star wars that used UK "architecture". In Star Wars Rogue One it had X wings, but when it was used in real life it had much more destructive technology, as it was part of the global system of mutually assured destruction.

The problem with this type of building is that it would fit only in a continuous and massive urban sprawl. Now it just looks stupid.

I can't cite anything specific, from memory. Wookiepedia also says it was Corsucant, but the citation simply refers to the same episode of the show we're thinking of (which was ep. 4).

Meanwhile in Poland .. We call it : "NSFW" The statue supposed to represent a laurel leaf of victory of the "great red army" , but we all know what it is and how it looks like. Following a recent developement of de-communisation of our land we are supposed to get rid of this communist eye sore , but is it really an eye sore ? So many citizens got so accustomed to it they do not want to let go (I admit it is somewhat of a city symbol) - so what do You think ? Should we tear the sucker down ?

Certainly not because of how it looks. Public art is always a difficult one. It is on the edge between political propaganda and part of history. Which one is more important, and which is a positive or a negative can only be decided by the population who has to live with it.
