Unusual Games Thread

My time off work has ended, so my game time is more limited now, but I had a chance to squeeze in a few more turns in my Russian game.

Lucky me, Germany respawned, taking his towns from my allies. Once I swooped in and crushed the Germans, I had a nice strip of land connecting Russia to Rome. No more relying on the whims of France for my land route! :)

I think I've almost collapsed Turkey and Mongolia (grabbed the Mongol capitoland razed the useless Turkish one), which would essentially win the UHV (my research is still quite high even with a massive empire, thanks to Rome). Turtle + Apollo isn't the most exciting end to a game, but it'll work. :)

But the reason I posted this was because I just saw something I'd never seen in Civ before - the AI gifted me a city completely out of the blue! The Vikings collapsed (Everyone near Russia has collapsed or is collapsing - we must have the stability plague! :) ), leaving his cities open. I didn't really want them, since they lack much useful land/resources, and my empire already included Italy, Greece, Germany and everything east to Mongolia, so I left them for the Dutch and French, my allies who had already taken some Viking towns before the collapse (and the likely cause). Yet, a few turns later, the southern Viking town near Germany flips culturally. Then a bit later, the Dutch (yeah that's right, the biggest trade extortionists in the game! :) ) pop up and give me an ex-Viking town near my cultural border. I guess he figured he'd lose the city culturally eventually, but I've still never seen the AI step up on his own to give a town away.

Of course, the one time I don't want to expand, the game gives me cities! :)

I've had this happen a few times. Once I saw one AI give a city to his enemy AI. I liked that. The fact that the other AI eventually crushed him, with my help, made it even better :D

yea i love when the game isnt only centered around u, it makes it way more fun (not being sarcastic)

You should try to play with Japan, and isolate yourself from the rest of the world. This why you can see a nice evolution in the RFC-world. I used to do this with every new build of RFC, just to check out how the AI handels the new features that Rhye added, or what the new tweaks would do.

BTW, has anyone been able to play the save I uploaded with the minuteman add-on, and what happend?
In my game, France collapsed after Spain took over some European cities, and slowly I became the world number one, competing with Russia (that was something new). I also conquered Arabia, a group of independent cities after Turkey partially collepsed.

I just finished a game as Portugal (3000BC start, monarch).
Rather funny game, and as usual when I play as a "colonial power" I do try to be among the first to reach the new world.
France was quicker than me and I expected to see the French empire happily stretching in mesoamerica.

Instead both Maya and Aztec where well alive and full of advanced troops like longbowmen, Pikeman, and Cho-Ko-Nu.
Wait! Cho-Ko-Nu in their army?
They weren't mercenary and China was long dead (collapsed).

The same in Incas land...

At the end of the game I made some archeology research (on the event log):
1290 AD: China declares war on Aztec and Maya
Clearly Chinese caravels reached america and conquerors event kicked-in!
Looks a bit like in 1421. :)

However in 1300 AD the Chinese conquered Oaxaca (Maya) and Tenochitlan (Aztec).
In 1310 AD first contact between Cina and Inca, conqueror event and war.
1320 AD: Ariqipaya (Inca) falls to the Chinese
in 1370 the same destiny apply for Tikal (Maya).

China is now in control of a very strong foothold in america, much earlier than any other power in the game.

Unfortunately tensions on the home front (with Mongols' help) cause the collapse of Chinese empire: China fall in civil war in 1380 AD.

Stange.
I recently have seen a lot of games with the aztec being the vazal of Japan.

And 90% of the civs with the bureaucracy civic is also something normal these days.

China got the conquerors event, (the Conquerors event for China has some Chinese Cho-Ko-Nus popping up in the Americas), then China collapsed, (but their Cho-Ko-Nus stayed in the Americas, they just became Independent), and then the Native American nations declared their independence from the Independent rule ;) and the independent Cho-ko-Nus became Atzec, Incan and Mayan ones.

This is exactly what happened (as shown by the vents log).
However when my carracts arrived there I had no clue about what happened, just surprise. :)

The very early first contacts followed by the demise of China made possible for those american civs to survive without problems the arrival of Europeans a few years later.

My favourite is when the AI "Dutch" empire Conquered Constantinople from Byzantines, then Athens from Independents, shortly before losing their only other city, Amsterdam.

Have you ever had this before?
In my present game as the English I'm cruising along to an easy cultural
victory in the 1800's, with London, Manchester and Inverness all over
18,000 points each. I'm nearly 1000 points ahead of my nearest rival and
have four vassals, America, Holland, Portugal and Mali, so I'm clearly top
dog in the world, right?
Suddenly I get this message saying
"An International Congress is about to begin, but you haven't
been invited. Perhaps you're not important enough.":crazyeye:

What's this all about? I mean, what do I have to do to be "important"?

Maybe you were not in contact with the civilization who owned the city where the Congress was held?

Maybe you were not in contact with the civilization who owned the city where the Congress was held?

Except that I was invited to every Congress held before this one.

BTW I doesn't matter as I've just won a cultural victory before 1900 anyway.

This doesn't matter. The game randomly picks a city where the Congress is held (each Congress is held in a different city) and the nations invited are the nations that are in contact with the city owner.

I guess that makes sense. But why would that work if the whole map is
revealed? Would I still have had to meet them as well?:)

You sure about that?
Pretty sure I have had congresses in countries that I didn't have contact with.
Or is it that you either need to have seen the city, or previously had contact with the civ, but not currently?
