Urban Dead

The problem for me was that the page was loading with uber-slowness, I didn't stick around to find out weather it would load but I'm sure it would have been a 'cannot find server'. The best way find out if it is a prob at your end is to check the page every now and then.

Anyway, I took 18 shots at a lone zombie just now, and only hit 4 times

Still, that is about right for 30% accuracy.

"log on later if you're not doing anything life-threatening" means server busy... you could press F5 to retry.

"cannot find server" could be problem on your part. Trying pinging "www.urbandead.com" or "217.112.87.10".

I can ping the server at this moment, and I can login and take actions.

Well, I got on with no problems, only to realise that when I left it last night in a hurry I was outside.

I'm now dead :ack:.

Being a zombie without starting as a zombie is painful... you have no zombie skills (unless you've saved up xps and were not headshot). You move slow, can't enter buildings with doors and can't talk.

Try walking to a nearby NecroTech building or church (with open doors, churches are a popular site for zombies requesting revive). Posting in the official Yahoo! group would help too.

If you're near Lockettside/Ruddlebank my character can revive you too.

Thanks, it was only a new character, he had only amassed 3exp :p.

I would rather create a new character, but it doesn't seem that options available to me, so I guess i'll just have to get revived.

Am I the only person who chose to start right out as a zombie? :crazyeye:

From what I see, the people who keep playing are those who start groups and create mini-empires. Playing it alone means it gets repetitive very quickly.

sorry for bringing a realy old thread back up, but its better then posting a new one on same subject right?

i just started playing UD about a week ago. my soldier just finaly got to level 3 after the police station i've been hiding in all week got over run with zombies. we had like 70+ people in here, and only like 30 with change zombies total attackd, but all the people ran for some reason. now i'm gonna die, cause there's barely 15 people left and 17 zombies inside (after i killed one just now)

my civilian (axeman) and my scientist are having WAY more problems leveling. the DNA scanning thing for the scientist takes a lot of running around, and most of the zombies are already scanned. the axe just doenst hit often enough to give any reasonable sort of xp.

i got bored of it very quickly.

Yup.

So why don't you flee? The game is about zombie horror - and the zombies do get the upper hand. They are IMMORTAL - kill them, and they just use some AP to get back up, fully healed. Safehouses are not permanent home - move on when the hoard comes.

You mean fireman rather than axeman, right? With axe, don't expect you can kill more than 1 zombie in 50AP. And don't even move too far away from your safehouse. You should store full 50AP, find a zombie within 10 AP, then attack it until you must retreat. Do that, and you will level up about every two days. I know... my first UD character is a fireman. ;)

It is even more difficult starting with firearms. Not only the to-hit chance isn't much higher, you need to find ammo. Search odds without Shopping/Bargain Hunting in malls just suck.

Civilian (Consumer) have it easy though. Just go to a hospital and find a lot of first-aid kits. Then visit safehouses looking for messages asking for heal. Or just go outside - any survivors stuck out there could use some healing.

Use your first few levels of XP to purchase Free Running. If you are a healer, choose Diagnosis. Combat skill improvement if not.

Me and a bunch of other CFCers playing UD are now level 20+. ;)

it seemed like it would have been way easier for the whole lot of us to just keep those zombies at bay then to run. too bad so man ran, and the rest got stuck being killed.
that Police station had served me well (spent 3 days searching it and i still havent run out of the bullets i found there) so i felt obligated to defend it.
fortunately i've not been revived and having lots of fun shooting guns off with 65% accuracy. a couple more days and i'll be able to get into a mall (why do they all have to be heavily barricated) so i can do some real ammo shopping to replenish my supplies.

no, i meant Axeman (civ4 on my mind, lol). but yes, he's the fireman starter char, but i think of him as the axeman, cause that's what he uses.
he's a slower leveler then my military gun guy. but now saying "the axe is probably all loaded up, gotta go swing it 48 times" to my dad every evening is beccoming a good running joke.

my experience is the other way. spent a couple (may have been 4) days in a police station, got a LOT of amo (i think i was up to 43 items between teh (loaded) guns and the ammo) and now that i can actualy use them again (by being alive), i'm leveling very fast.

only starting char i didnt make is the consumer. seems like a tough one to me. shopping is completely useless till you get free running (to enter a mall), and free running costs 100 exp that you ahve almost no way of getting.

Use your first few levels of XP to purchase Free Running. If you are a healer, choose Diagnosis. Combat skill improvement if not.

are you an organized group, or just seperate chars in UD who share a love of CFC?

If you've played a zombie, you will know. There's NO WAY to stop the advance of zombies. Especially now that headshot no longer knocks XP off - it used to be an effective weapon to force non-maxed out zombies to go away.

You move to a safehouse. You knock down the barricade. Groan if you meet survivors to attract other zombies to you. Do it with all your AP. If you can get inside, nice... start chewing on them.

They kill you? No problem. All they can do is kill you and dump you outside. Eventually you'll find your way back in. It only takes a few APs.

Just starting your unlife and don't know how to get XP? Look for clusters of other zombies. Eventually you will find a just-cracked-open safehouse with lots of fresh brains inside.

And remember: This is a zombie horror game afterall. And the game mechanism does what it is intended to do: Humans run for their lives when the big zombie horde comes. Survivors are the mice, zombies are the cats.

You're just a lucky man... people have spent all their APs and found very little. When you have Shopping and Bargain Hunting, you will know how effective they are inside malls. You can also check the official Wiki... in survivor resources, there's a page about search odds, comparing various location/skill combinations.

It's only because you have a nice supply of bullets ;)

Heal people! Nice and easy. You get good chance of finding FAKs in hospitals, and you go around healing others. Healing unwounded people won't cost your FAK, just 1 AP. And any survivor stuck on the streets could use some healing anyway. You can also sit still inside a safehouse and try to heal all the people. You can quickly gather your first few levels with little risks.

I think you already know the answer by now ;)

Hey, are there any survivors in the South East quadrant that want to meet up?

I was in the Fort Perryn area, stocking up on supplies, when I rested... when I came back on the armoury had been overrun and i'm now in the hospital a few places south healing people.

i'm off though, this place is gone, for now. I'm trying to form a small group oTomorrow f people together to see what we can do for whoevers left down here, then we're heading up to Caiger to see how things are going. I'm not gonna be silly 'n stay up then when there's NO hope left. I want a sensible group...

I'm Barry Navochavisk, by the way.

EDIT: And I MIGHT try and make a recruitment drive along the way.

i.e. Visit each of the major locations en toure and see if anyone wants to come along the way, rather than go up on their own.

I'm thinking, maybe another option would be to go to Giddling, to help stave off the assault there for a little while longer. Or camp a few blocks away from Caiger, so that it's possible to raid the zeds without being in the direct line of fire.
