I do get the idea that some Americans at least appear to have a series inability to take criticism of any kind, almost as if criticising a country or its foibles is tantamount to war, lighten up you'll live longer. That's pretty funny. If you can't make fun of others then poke fun at yourself, after all our countries entire comedy output is based on it :)

THat's why Canada is so great [ok, I admit, we probably do have an ego that's a bit bigger than it should be, but it's still not as big as some peoples, not naming names *points south*] I love shows like Airfarce, 22 minutes, etc that poke fun at world events and Canada. I was also ''shocked'' when I learned we had an army that had TANKS.

Anyways, let's NOT turn this into a political debate. I am changing the link.

I go on UD from time to time to look up slang words I dont know. But yeah, I noticed some of the definitions become flame wars between what seems like very, very base people

I just tried a couple random links. Podfapping. geesh, what will they think of next...

edit: more random links and got.... very interesting some of the interpretations.

Civilization affect

The ability of any game of the Civilization series to produce an addiction sufficient to warp spacetime around the player. Results in being tardy or accidently pulling a video game all-nighter.

Gamer Dude #1: "Well, I was playing Civilization 4 in the afternoon, and then, suddenly, it was the next morning!"

Gamer Dude #2: "Sounds like the Civilization affect, alright."

I've been using Acronym Finder for years now to figure out the TLAs. Never thought of using UD

I don't think America has been in enough wars to have a sense of humour yet. Us Europeans fought each other for thousands of years before we learned to lighten up and just poke fun at each other instead.

They have my town on there. Linglestown is not "the hood," you idiots. I can't beleive how lame the guy who wrote it was.

1. I can get a "real" rolex for 5$ and a burger for 10$

Ironic, considering that most of these "real" rolexes are made outside of the US.

2.Where I can get a cheese piza, with extra cheese, cheese stuffed crust, and a ring of cheese around that crust, oh yeah and a diet coke.

This kind of stupidity is inexcusable, but surely not restricted to America.

3. You have food available, but you starve yourself anyways just so some boy in highschool can sleep with you.

This is medical disorder whose commonality does not vary widely among the world's population.

4. We consider name calling poltical dimplomacy.

I will take the kind of diplomacy that involves name-calling before the kind that involves gunshots, anyday. By the way, has anyone ever watched a Parliamentary session of the UK? Whoa!

5. A person can sue a fast food company because he is fat.

You can sue ANYONE for ANYTHING. Winning the lawsuit is a different story. This particular lawsuit has failed, on more than one occasion.

6. Where we can say what we want, as long as its what everyone else thinks.

Yes, as perfectly displayed by the recent summary execution of all NAMBLA members.

7. The world series is played, yet no other country plays in it.

Then who beat the Phillies in the 1993 World Series?

8. The bigger the car, the more american it is.

Of course, big American cars are typically more fuel-efficient than smaller overseas counterparts.

9. who is sleeping with what celebtrity is more important than world issues.

Hollywood and Celebrity life are an international phenomenon, not an American one.

10. We have the best schools, yet the dumbest kids.

This is pure myth. The United States, while inadequate in my eyes, still has among the highest levels of education in the world.

11. Athelets get payed more than any construction worker, fireman, postal worker, soldier, immigrant worker will ever make in ten lives.

There is no justification nor any disputing this.

12. A trip to the museum is lame, but a staged wrestling match is better.

Professional Wrestling has been on a steady decline since the 1970s and 1980s, during its height. Museums currently enjoy record attendances. Besides, this seems to be a matter of opinion, which cannot be quantified.

13. Debauchary, greed, lust, and stuffing our faces is a way of life.

America (30%), in no way, holds a monopoly on greed or lust, and we only do in regard to stuffing our faces, because we, by far, outproduce every nation on this planet. If people in Ethiopia had as much food, they'd be stuffing their faces, too. However, Mexico (24.2%), the United Kingdom (23%), Greece (21.9%), Australia (21.7%), and New Zealand (20.9%) are not far behind. NOTE: Percentages are rates of obesity among the general population.

14. we needed a horrible terrorist attack to make us want to have our flag on our house.

This only somewhat true. Flag-waving has become more popular since 9/11, but it was still done before then. I would like to say, however, that at least its an option in America (to fly it or not).

Missed one!

15. Peace is spelled b-o-m-b-s

[joke]Chickenhorsehockey is spelled E-u-r-o-p-e.[/joke]

Well, thats not true. Its not that they are scared, like some dumbass Americans say. Europe has a vested economic interest in any place we seem to want to bomb. Of course, Europe uses military force everyday to solve their problems. It just doesn't get the same quality of press.

@ John HSOG

I think you should lighten up a little. Such blind patriotism is no doubt very tiring.

Amazing, sixteen words and not a single valid refutation of anything that I have said, just sixteen words worth of rhetoric.

Furthermore, I am far from being the biggest fan of this government.

Wow someone can't take a joke. :shake:

Ever consider chilling out?

Maybe you considered it was meant as a joke and not verbatim arguements about why the US is lame?

Did you possibly consider that you just proved a point by reacting like a kid with an attitude problem?

I don't get it John, you're not one for losing it like this. :crazyeye:

Wait...so I debunked 14 of 15 "Urban" definitions, and I am "losing it"?

@John HSOG: Why don't you spend your next post refuting Little Red Ridinghood?

You know what, this argument is so darned compelling that I am going to sit in a corner and cry, now.
