v. 1.61 Bug Report!

I have a problem with the 1.61 patch. After I patched the game, I went in and started a new game. Every time I try this, and get into the first move of the game, it tells me I have 10 moves left. What's the fix?

This is caused by you using a pirated or cracked (e.g no-cd cracks) copy of the game. To fix this, get a legitimate copy.

I had to do a full install of Windows XP and then installed the game from the original purchased game. I patched to 1.61 and it still tells me I have 10 moves left! What gives?

CivIVFan, this is a deliberate anti piracy measure. At least so far every single case of games starting with 10 turns remaining are due to the use of pirated games or a no-cd crack. If you are actually playing with the original cd in the drive then I'd advise you to check the legitimacy of the original game. You aren't going to get any methods for bypassing anti-piracy measures on this forum.

I'm not attempting any anti piracy measures. But I will say this. I am taking back the game in its original box, getting my money back, deleting the game and I will never play another Civilization game again. I think it's sad considering I started playing Civilization with the first version back in the 1980's don't you? I'm also removing my name from this forum and I will write to Firaxis and let them know what I think of their product.

Unless you've invented time travel you can't have played Civ in the 1980's. It didn't come out till 1991.

As to the anti-piracy measures one of the beauties is that users of cracks and pirated games reveal themselves immediately. These errors simply don't occur otherwise. Some own up to using the cracks, some vanish, some start hurling abuse. I suppose it's just about possible that you bought a pirated copy without knowing, but you'll soon find out if that's the case if you try and get your money back from wherever you got it.

All right, I stand corrected on the date. Since I'm 53 years old maybe I'm not as "fresh" as my memory thought. I started playing Colonization and Civilization 1 early on. Colonization for DOS came out in 1994 and Civilization 1 followed it. I took the original game back and had them test it on one of their computers. Lo and behold it did the same thing... imagine that. They also brought out another original game and the same thing happend. This is a major WalMart store and I know one of the electronics sales people there. They tried it on two different brand new computers, and it did the same thing. As far as the "beauty of copy protection", don't you think it's going a little too far when original products, not one but two, do the same thing? What kind of beauty is that? Needless to say I did get my money back. They also took all of their original Civ IV games off the shelf. They want their money back too.
