All right, I stand corrected on the date. Since I'm 53 years old maybe I'm not as "fresh" as my memory thought. I started playing Colonization and Civilization 1 early on. Colonization for DOS came out in 1994 and Civilization 1 followed it. I took the original game back and had them test it on one of their computers. Lo and behold it did the same thing... imagine that. They also brought out another original game and the same thing happend. This is a major WalMart store and I know one of the electronics sales people there. They tried it on two different brand new computers, and it did the same thing. As far as the "beauty of copy protection", don't you think it's going a little too far when original products, not one but two, do the same thing? What kind of beauty is that? Needless to say I did get my money back. They also took all of their original Civ IV games off the shelf. They want their money back too.
