Anyway @tantanmen had a pretty good idea to create a team which creates units of all eras specific to civs. Similar like Varietas Delectat.
To be part of this team you don't need to know complicated stuff like Python and SDK, all you need to know is a bit of XML and a lot of NIF or Unit art.
We will get to work with creating a Github for this but a bit later and after we finish a couple of packs.
Currently we are working on some units for Aragon, Castile, Leon, Almohads, and we stopped progress on Bohemia which we will continue.
Here is the team so far.

Team Members:
-tantanmen
-Louis the XIV
Pending:
-rtt4a (recommended by tantanmen for possible playtesting, feedback, and/or development :w00t:

Basically if you know how to create model art using NIF then please comment below. I believe that 5 people is enough for a team, more would simply be too complicated.
Currently me and tantanmen are working on a unit pack for Bohemia which can also be used for Serbia or Croatia.
Also we might need someone who knows how to use GITHUB so if you do please let us know!

Nice initiative! Are you thinking of real-world units mostly and all ages? Let me know, if for example it is to cover the basic Civ-4 unit line I'm sure I could put together all kinds of stuff.
I see you recently did some naval units, that would be perfect for our team! To answer your question yes we will do all units of all ages.
If you want to be part of our team then I will welcome you and I'm sure tantanmen will as well.

You really should have messaged me privately and asked me before signing me up for anything like this.

I can help out with questions and such but I can't create new unit models for you right now. I am already busy with a giant unit project for FFH with something like 1000 units to go.

This said, feel free to browse through my unit model and take what you think might work from there as long as you keep credits.txt. And if you make any changes just add your self into it. That way we can finally have a record of who got units from where as opposed to what VD did where basically there is no way to tell any more.

I specifically said Requests: PPQ_Purple. I didn't sign you up. I said it would be very nice if you could be on board because you are a very good art creator so as well as topsecret is also not signed up yet, he is also requested but I am not sure he will be available.
Anyway I understand you aren't available, no problem.
Good luck on creating 1000 units:thumbsup:! Sounds extremely hard!

While I cannot commit to such because of the amount of units I need to make for Middle-earth, some of those units could be used in the real world, such as Rohan, Dale, and Harad. When I release those packs, feel free to use any units you like here.

I thought you would say that. Your Middle Earth mod has a looooot of units! And more keep coming!

Just wanna say how great it is to see new active modders creating new units for this old but still much played game. Im a big fan of your work:goodjob:
Thank you for your nice comment! I believe that Civ 4 is the greatest game in the Civilization franchise and I doubt that Civ 7, 8...etc... will get better Though I know many people might disagree with me.

Hello MatteM!

Yes, I think our priority will be real-world units, all ages.

But I would also like to incorporate the brilliant work being done in @Matsuda123’s What If Unit Thread  For example, we could ‘revive’ any of the numerous (and sometimes overlooked) Mesoamerican Civs. @Sword_Of_Geddon is particularly strong in this area - he has already contributed a few custom civs and his MAJESTY mod is bursting with good ideas and material :D The goal here for “reviving a lost civilization” would be to construct something fun and interesting and give it full flavor.

Let me know, if for example it is to cover the basic Civ-4 unit line I'm sure I could put together all kinds of stuff.
It would be amazing if you could help. I’ve focused more on pillaging curating pre-gunpowder units, so your knowledge and talent for creating modern units would be absolutely solid bedrock.

Louis is hard at work on some of the early units. Any Bohemian-Czech gunpowder units and modern vehicles you can provide will keep morale flying high :w00t:

Also I’m not necessarily making a request to you personally – but at the very top of our wishlist I might dream big and request any artistic rendition of a Hussite Handgunner/Hand Cannon. Because how cool would that be? Everybody look it up ;)

p.s. Thank you very much for all the eye candy you’ve been providing us :goodjob:

Sorry about that. Yesterday Louis and I were discussing getting a team together, and we both expressed our admiration for your work – but we hadn’t really discussed in full how we should go about recruiting. Sorry that we jumped the gun a little.

I’m glad Louis went for it though and made a splash :) Even after I gulp down my third pot of coffee of the day I can’t match his level of enthusiasm

I confess I’ve been guilty myself :mischief:

Joking aside, I think this is a really important point. We will also make a concerted effort to trace back and credit original modders and artists for their contributions. I think we should adopt your system of credit.txt files.

The art you are creating for the FfH universe continues to inspire. Keep cracking those 3D model bones

Oh but you have no idea

No harm done. I am not offended or anything. I am simply too busy. Still, if you guys have any questions or any unit you just can't figure out feel free to call me. I might make the time. Also any modern vehicles and stuff. Those I might just look at out of fun because it'd be a break from all the fantasy units. But no promises.

Indeed. There are some fantastic people out there that did fantastic work but are basically lost to time now because they posted their stuff up before the upload database system was a thing and now their units only exit in VD. It pains me a bit every time I have to just flatly credit Varietas Delectat. But really often times there is no choice any more. Let us not end up like that.

The art you are creating for the FfH universe continues to inspire. Keep cracking those 3D model bones
I am hoping to release a new pack with some great people and reworked religious units (race specific ones for both) by the end of the year. Also some ships and the occasional stray unit here and there. But ironically corona means this year I have less free time and not more.

Here are some pictures of 2 of the units created by me. The spearman is still under construction because I need to put an emblem on its chest and the shield needs to be stripes instead of the coat of arms.

I always drop a credits txt files in mods created by me that use a lot of art, python, etc...
But for example for my units, credit usually goes to me and one other person who created the model so I only put the credits in the thread not in the txt file.

Thanks for all the kind words. I am not very familiar with Varietas Delectat, is it just a graphical mod or are there new civs included etc.? My own mod is basically recreating thousands of real world units and techs etc. and it is keeping me quite busy,
so I think it is easier for me if you specify more like "we really need a Russian battleship replacement" or something like that. The Hussite Handgunner looks cool but I would need to find a model, since I don't really make stuff from scratch :)

No, Varietas Delectat is a module/mod that adds a unique art style for every single civ in the game.
btw Do you want to join our team for Varietas Delectat revived? We could really use someone like you!

Is your plan with this to start with the original VD and expand from there to fill out the gaps?

Maybe, not sure yet. I will start working on unit packs for Leon, Aragon, Castile, Almohad, Mandinka, Navvare, and Aquitaine anyway and if the rest of the team wants to help then it would save me a lot of time.
