Varietas Delectat Revived

That's interesting, first of all Almohad didn't have any territory in Spain (only in Tunisia, Algeria, and Morocco). Don't worry about creating any units for Almohad or Mandinka or Castile though, and for Aragon we only need like really modern units, like tanks and infantry. Because from RFC Dawn of Civilization there already is unit art of all ages for Almohad, Mandinka, and Castile and in RFC Europe there already is art for Aragon and Cordoba up to 1800 AD.
By the way Mandinka was a tribe in the region of Mali so I will just use the art for Mali.
My research tells me that the Almohad empire did in fact hold all of southern Spain.

Glancing quickly at your list I think I might have a slightly different Himyar/Saba set for you. I'm on my phone right now. But here's one photo. Let me know:
Spoiler A Few Himyar/Saba/Touareg Units :

I think we'll be developing Romania soon, so we can also begin to diversify Serbia if you’re interested.

So what's your vision? Which of your projects would you like to develop first?

p.s. @Louis the XIV >> Sword_of_Geddon is kind of a legend... ;)

Nice to see VD getting some love in this day and age, and good timing too since I have this idea of a Taiwanese and an Ainu civ, and maybe even a Ryukyuan civ for VD; even though they would share some Japanese hardware in the industrial and modern eras to an extent.

Hi DrDisco!

My most recent DNA test came back 22% Otaku, so I am very pleased *yoroshiku head nod/quick bow* to make your acquaintance :goodjob:

Yes, VDR: Taiwan could be shaping up. We are very fortunate to have a really nice Taiwan mod by @Dumanios. And topsecret recently made a superb Chiang Kai-Shek LH if that’s the direction you're thinking?

I’m pretty sure @Sword_Of_Geddon has worked up a little something for Ryukyu in his MAJESTY mod. I know I've seen requests for Ainu around the forum. If you have something specific in mind, this thread's very own @Louis the XIV would probably be more than happy to (re-)build the Ainu from the ground up :)

We're always looking to expand our horizons and we would love to hear your ideas!! :w00t: (< that’s my genki dayo jump) If you could put together a little presentation/package [with screenshots], that would really help speed us along. Thanks DrDisco, look forward to hearing from you

@PPQ_Purple oh yeah I forgot the Almohads had part of Spain, they only existed from 1100 something to 1300 something so I was assuming they didn't have time t conquer Spain. Anyway thank you PPQ_Purple for helping us out! No problem creating Almohad art work because DoC already has the Almohads so I will just use the VD for Almohad, Castile, from DoC and medieval Aragon from RFC Europe.

A great project we could do after finishing the Bohemia unit pack we could create some new art styles. Eastern European, Slavic, Germanic, South East Asian, North African.
List of civs that can use these art styles:
Eastern European:
-Byzantine, Romania, Greece, Albania,
Slavic:
-Serbia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Bohemia, Hungary, Khazar, Ukrainian
Germanic:
-Visigoths, Ostrogoths, Vandals, Huns, Franks (Franks not French), Prussians, Germans
South East Asian:
-Thailand, Vietnam, India, Tamil, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines,
North African:
-Almohad, Cordoban, Mali, Umayyad, Fatimid, Mamluk, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco,
I only mentioned countries that are most probably created by the Civ community so that we can use some of their original art work as a model.
Anyway I think the South East Asian and Slavic unit set would be most helpful and interesting to create, especially since the North Asian (mostly China) art style is muuuuuuch more different then the South East Asian one. Also the Slavic civs can't use a European art style because it is too different compared to what their troops actually looked like.
P.S. For South East Asian I'm sure RFC Asia has ton of new units!

I'm going for the much coveted triple-post :hatsoff:
Spoiler How can these Civs these be improved? :
I don’t want to get into the specifics of what these Custom Civs will need to fully shine, but I'll say quickly:

(1) Romania might benefit from a couple touch-ups or replacements and certainly could use some modern vehicles.

(2) Honestly for Sweden, I believe that line of infantry units in white are actually Finnish. I tend to prefer World War Era infantry lines, so I went with the Finns for now because they look cool  I'll keep mum about whether or not I think there might be a better alternative for a line of Swedish infantry units or whether or not there exists a plethora of modern Swedish vehicles out there ( @MatteM ;) )

(3) The Cherusci are more of a What-If civ, so for a rough template I just borrowed the Armenian infantry line because they’re blue and they're wearing fur. Hey it’s something. I’m just trying to pack bodies in the field :dunno:

In these instances I’ve created a rough template. It’s something to look at and analyze. Let’s call it wishful placeholding. The packages are distinctive but they are still not fully polished. This is where I’d like to call on community support

So now for me the big question is: How should we enlist community support to develop VDR civs? What kind of unofficial forum/space should we try to create? Should we just open a new Development Thread for each civ?
That is a good question that I know the answer to. No.
I will edit the VDR thread and put a link there with the name of the unit pack and some pictures, similar to how I did my unit thread.

VD doe snot give them modern units though. Plus I have a T-35 model I made long ago that I've been itching to give a civ and this is an opportunity. :)

I don't see why not. I mean, they hold what was the republican core area and the default art style for arab units in general in VD is already soviet.

I mean, just look at it. It is literally the cutest of all tanks. Just makes you want to hug it and drive it around and crush enemies of the proletariat with it. :)

They both look rather good. Although I personally prefer #2 because of the hat and mustache. Got to respect a guy that rocks a Franz Joseph.

Hahaha, I agree with you.
Maybe I could change some of the clothes on the worker to make him look just a bit more Bohemian. I feel as if his "dress" is not very Bohemian.

Well you can always google up bohemian national dress or something and see what comes out. Either way I need to get back to doing orks for now.

That's a good idea.
Do you think that the Germanic settler would be good enough fro Bohemia?
I'll add a picture of it in a few minutes.
Spoiler Bohemian Settler :

It uses the original settler art but I added a Horse, Donkey, and a Dog.

Honestly I really don't have much time to think about ye old units. My brain is sort of burned out on those thanks to my work on FFH.

My personal rule is don't overthink it. If it's noticeably different and looks fine, there's no reason to go overboard. Too much time spent on one unit means you can't finish whole packs.
