Varietas Delectat Revived

You created all those units! I also created a Romania civ but all the leaders are different. Anyway nice work.
Oh no, I didn't create them. I found them and curated them ;) I'm only just now beginning to create :)

Different leaders for Romania? I'll have to check it out!

There already is a Hongwu leaderhead. In Dawn of Civilization there are like 100 new leaders and a lot of them are Asian.
Well actually, that Hongwu leaderhead from DOC was actually a recolored Song Gaozong leaderhead.

I also wanted to ask everybody's opinion on something.

I think it would be really useful to document all of the unit artwork from VD. This will make it easy for quick referencing. I’ve taken some screenshots of original VD units in the past:

Spoiler Original VD Unit Flavor Art :

VD Arabia.JPG

VD Babylon.JPG

VD Byzantium.JPG

VD Carthage.JPG

VD China.JPG

VD Egypt.JPG

VD Greece.JPG

VD India.JPG

VD Ottomans.JPG

VD Persia.JPG

I did an okay job on these. The problem is, if you put too many units on the map, and try to take a screenie, you lose a lot of the detail. I’m still experimenting, but I think what I did for my Sweden mock-up was better.

For Sweden I roughly categorized units into:
1) Pre-Gunpowder
2) Gunpowder (non-vehicle)
3) Aircraft and Ground Vehicles
4) Ships

@MalayanGamer you did an outstanding job on your RFCE Leaderhead Chart :king: I think you might have the best ideas for taking screenshots of units. Would you be interested in creating a Survey of VD Unit Flavor Art? What about you @Louis the XIV ?

I don't understand why it would be too useful to take screenshots of it but sure I can take a few. By the way DoC has a VD, and DoC adds over 30 new civs so I think we should start with that one.

Screenshots are super useful for quick reference when you are looking for units to base your work off. Although if you want to document it all I'd advise starting with an excel worksheet or equivalent that just lists all the civs on one axis and units on the other. That's what I do for my FFH mod. It not only helps me keep track of what units exist in FFH but also what I've already made and what I still have to make. Doing it for VD however is a lot of work that I can't do right now.

Speaking of Sweden when you get to them I volunteer t do any missing tank and aircraft units. These seem to be the only modern units not already done by anyone.

Well Bohemian units are basically going to be what ever the Czech and Czechoslovak units are/were. I know that there is a 38T model out there for their tank at least.

I am not sure the text is a great idea as it will just look odd as no other units in the game really have text on them. As for the rest basically my thought process is:
1. Look up what they are using on Wikipedia and find that unit on the database if it exists.
2. Apply the crest to the face and side as you did and call it a day. Maybe apply what ever cammo you can find online that the nation uses.

This said, since doing modern units is not that hard you guys stick to the medieval stuff and I'll do the pretty tanks. When ever you finish up a unit set call me up and I'll take a look at what you made and apply my process in addition to making the modern units fit a bit with the style you made.

Like for example I've already figured out what I am going to do for your Spanish civs. I am basically going to divide them up based on which side was on which during the Spanish Civil war and give them units appropriate to what the sides used there.

That sounds great!
I have read a lot of articles about the Spanish civil war since I was planning on putting it in RFC Spain but then decided to make it go only to 1850 AD.
The capital of the Nationalists was Burgos so that means that Leon could have units based on the Nationalists and Aragon as the Republicans, not sure about Castile though.

My current split, based off what you posted earlier is:
Leon - nationalist
Aragon - republican
Castile, - nationalist
Almohad, - republican
Mandinka, - I have no idea what this is. Google yields nothing.
Navvare, - nationalist

Noting that Nationalist can mean both German and Italian equipment.

That's interesting, first of all Almohad didn't have any territory in Spain (only in Tunisia, Algeria, and Morocco). Don't worry about creating any units for Almohad or Mandinka or Castile though, and for Aragon we only need like really modern units, like tanks and infantry. Because from RFC Dawn of Civilization there already is unit art of all ages for Almohad, Mandinka, and Castile and in RFC Europe there already is art for Aragon and Cordoba up to 1800 AD.
By the way Mandinka was a tribe in the region of Mali so I will just use the art for Mali.
