Vive la France ! Unit Pack, Part I

Anyway Sandris, don't you already have your hands full with Turkish and Asian units before you really need more refeence?

Steph, it`s not needed "right now", but it would be useful to have them already. I have some of the source images, but you have a lot more possibilities with your military library and knowledge.

I suspect I'll be taking care of the Austrian units as well (just a heads up Sandris, so we don't create the same units double ;)).

Yes, Yes, Yes! :D
I have a truckload of reference images for the Austrians... just a FYI. ;)

Ils sont magnifiques, ces soldats francais!
Here you go talking French again  I have to agree with you on these, mate :D Just wonderful. You've justified your title "la maison du Roi" now :) You could use one of them as your avatar.

C'est le guerre!
Very impressive Mr. Sandris.
But, being that these are Frenchmen, don't you think their chests are a little too manly?
Or, perhaps it is that they are all puffed up with their own self-importance.

(My apologies to all the Frenchies out there, but I couldn't resist poking a little fun. Please feel free to return the favor regarding us Yanks.);)

There's a good possibility Gen.Rommel and Sandris already received a truckload of Austrian reference pictures. :mischief:

Sandris, maybe you can add an attackb with sword to your units like French Fusilier 1700, Russian Musketeer and British Musketeer 1700? The others units (who have the bayonet) have all an attackb so I think it would be great and complete the units. I know it is more work for you but...

Two things:

1) Some of the pedia icons have a too long file name. You will have to cut down some names in order to make C3 able to read them.

For example, I had to rename

FrenchImperialGrenadier1812Large.pcx (32 chars + extension)

to FrenchGrenadier1812Large.pcx,

because the game crashed. The simple reason was that Civ read something like (filename).p or (filename).pc instead of pcx - it was just too long.
In order to avoid this AND have descriptive filenames, you could go and put LG and SM instead of Large and Small.

FrenchImperialGrenadier1812LG.pcx (29 chars, seems to work)

2) I noticed that the Rifleman pcx are on the pink side again. I felt free to make a brighter version, hope you don't mind.

If someone :mischief: could send me referrences to Dutch, Swedish, Italian and Spanish 1650-1920 unit lines, it would be useful. :)

Here's a site with decent articles about many events from the late 1700's-1815: http://www.napoleon-series.org/military/c_battles.html

------------------------------------------

Mix of many from the 1600-1700:
Here's a site with tons of miniatures, many with era uniforms. I'm not sure how historically accurate they are, but they are worth a look.

That's about all I can come up with using hardcore Googling. Hope some of it helps. Didn't have a whole lot of time, and for some reason the "Insert Link" thing went and deleted all the Dutch site links I had when I posted this.

Nice, so very, very nice. :king:

O yes, I've been waiting for these to com out ever since your british troops came out. Fantastic stuf.

I beleve I did notice a mistake with your 1890 rifleman though. First you have the jacket comming almost strait down from the belt to form a 90 degree angle. The jacket should start to gently curve back to its lowest point behind the calf. This basic jacket was used by the french from the 1850s all the way to the battle of france in 1941, and probably after that in north africa, my refrence books don't say one way or the other. There was also a jacket of similer cut to the one you used but it had a lot of white and red decerating the uniform. It's kind of fard to tell at thit timeperiod as uniforms still tened to vary some within the same army of some nations. If this jacket was used at this time I would love to see it, if it is in a book I would love to know the title and author.

But they are all fantastic units, and I know that I am going to be replacing BAP's and Nemesis Rex's french units with your 1812 and 1890 units.

Thanks

A thousand thanks for this new unit pack, Sandris - ils sont vraiment fantastique! :king: Can't wait for more *slobber*
If I only had the time, I would love to do (or paticipate with) an "Era of gunpowder 1590 - 1890" scenario...

Check out Age of Colonization, Will.

Hey Sandris, any chance of releasing any of these guys in civ color? I was thinking the 1812 fusilier..
