Just make the move you like as if it were just you playing the game. This will count as your vote.

Ideally read the comments (our team's) before doing so so as to understand other people's ideas as well. The idea is to win of course but also to learn from each other & understand each other's thought processes.

I recommend 2. Nf3. Keeps to good old development principles, prepares castling, and attacks the centre. If people wants to try gambits, the Danish or Goring is still available.

Some have suggested 2. d4. IMO this move would wastes time and lose the initiative:

2. ... exd4
3. Qxd4 Nc6

Queen has to move again and Black develops another piece while we move our Queen around. Consequently, Black takes the initiative, has a lead in development as well as a comfortable game. We're still in it, but it's unnecessary to give this to Black.

As discussed in the game thread, the idea of 2. d4 is not to play 2...exd4 3. Qxd4 but instead to play 3. c3. Therefore your premise is wrong. We would be the ones with development and initiative. Albeit for a small investment in material which is not to everyone's taste. Nevertheless that was my suggestion.

Just played the opening we're playing in the team match in a blitz matchup but with 0-0 instead of cxd4 just to try it out. It worked pretty well for me in the game but I make no allusions that a game where my opponent actually had time to think would turn out to be such a blunderful rout.

I was considering voting for 0-0, but decided against it since I thought cxd4 would win anyway.

Been trying to post this on our 2nd vote chess game but the server seems to be having problems right this moment.

I haven't voted on this move yet but for everyone's information I posted this thread about the bug that got us into this position in the first place.

Anyway, still seems like we're about equal. Castling seems the most natural choice but will wait for comments re : something better (it's about 2:30AM my time & I try not to make any moves, besides in blitz games at this time!).

Congrats fellas! Our first win with a smothered mate.

I put out a seek for a 3rd vote chess match and will for a fourth once we finish our second.

I figure two at a time is a good amount (as much as I'm tempted to go for more @ once & faster time controls so we can move up in the rankings).
