@Louis XXIV That's true. Even so I'd still rather see a Florentine or Paduan or Tuscan or etc. civilization. To me "Italy" suggests the modern state; in the Middle Ages there really wasn't much of a sense of cultural (or even entirely linguistic) unity amongst the various factions of the Italian Peninsula--that chiefly came about on account of the stirrings of 19th century nationalism.

Lombard League?

I'd rather not do a league. Either the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, the Most Serene Republic of Venice, or it should be an Italian Civilization.

Grand Duchy of Tuscany would be my first choice as well, especially since Venice featured prominently in Civ5.

NL, Portugal and Sweden have all been at some kind of hight in history. NL and Portugal with their navy, and Sweden with its great leaders thru history. i vote for those in this order:

1. sweden
2. portugal
3. NL

I voted for the Netherlands, Ireland and Italy.

The Netherlands for obvious reasons. Ireland, because I want to see a Celtic civ, but in the form of a nation-state.
Italy, because it would be interesting to play as, especially with multiple leaders. And I would want the change of color and capital be conceptually utilized by a civ/nation that had the same historical circumstances as the Greek city-states.

Gauls, Portugal and Scotland.

Celts is too generic. I prefer adding only one part of them: the "continental" Gallic Tribes.

I went with the Netherlands, Portugal and Italy.
The first two were easy as they were had world empires in the 16th and 17th century but for the third one I doubted between Ireland, Sweden and Italy.
Ireland because I want something Celtic but not the combined version and Ireland seems to me the best choice, since it still exists so there is a market for it unlike Gaul for example and I felt Ireland had more importance in the World history than Scotland.
Sweden was for a long time the most important nation in Northern Europe and had many possessions in N-Germany and the Baltic's and even had some colonies in the Americas.
Italy as more of a representative of the many Italian Renaissance states just like Germany is for the many German states from the medieval Age (Though I still think we are gonna see Genoa as a the new Super CityState Civ since there were traces of it left in the files as a civ on release).
Went with Italy because I felt that the influence of the Italian Renaissance on the rest of Europe and to some extension the World was more important then the other two.

Don't be too sure. French nationalists have seized upon Gaulish identity the same way that England has the Britons, with about as much logic. ;) I understand that Vercingetorix is something of a culture hero in France.

I think Switzerland would be a very interesting addition to the game. They could get some sort of bonus for mountains and maybe something relating to neutrality.

I'd really like to see Italy (as one nation), Austria-Hungary (not just Austria), and the Holy Roman Empire. It's weird to me having Frederick Barbarossa be the ruler of Germany when he was a Holy Roman emperor. That would be like Julius Caesar representing Italy. Roman Empire =/= modern Italy. If I could, I'd actually just split the current German civ into the Holy Roman Empire, then make a new German civ that's actually just Germany.

They already did that in Civ4, and to be honest, it's kind of awkward having Germany and the HRE in the same game. I guess the HRE in Civ4 acted as the "rest of Europe" civ?

There is no political and precious little cultural continuity between the Roman Empire and the Republic of Italy. Conversely, the Republic of Germany was forged out of the crumbling HRE; Austria was only excluded because Bismarck knew that either Austria or Prussia was destined to rule the new Germany and he was determined it was going to be Prussia. Consequently, it would be accurate to say that the HRE and Germany are not the same state, but it is equally accurate to say that they are the same civilization. I'd have absolute zero problem with Barbarossa, Bismarck, and Maria-Theresa all being German leaders because they all belong to the same civilization even if they represent three distinct states.

Austria-Hungary is weird to have as a Civ. It didn't exist very long (compared to the Austrian Empire) and it was basically a beginning of the disintegration of the Empire. Essentially, it's two states with the same head of state. People just know it by that name because of World War I.

would love to see the return of Boudicca, and any of the Celts, Gauls, or Iceni, also want to see the Austrians and the Swiss would be interesting, though I can only vote for 3.

would love to see the return of Boudicca
Sweet mercy, may that ridiculous walking combo anachronism and stereotype never, ever return to the Civ franchise. :wallbash: For the record, I think the woman herself was interesting, I just abhor the way both she and the Celts have been portrayed in previous iterations, especially Civ5. Plus, she wasn't really all that significant. I'd much rather see someone like Vercingetorix, Ambiorix, Vortigern, or Cunobeline. If we must have a woman, can we at least ditch Boudicca for Cartimandua?

Their is now an Italian based civil led by Alboin Lombard. Go look it up, play it if you want and give me some feedback. It's a bit simple as I was learning to mod whilst creating it.

My next project is a proper United Kingdom civ. I really dislike the English civ being led by Victoria. It will feature a Longman unit, but these were both English and Welsh! I hope to have it playable in a week or two, but am on holiday at moment :)

Netherlands, Austria, and Sweden. The Netherlands could be fun if naval combat is improved in the future expansion packs. I'd like to see what the devs would do with the Dutch this time around. Dikes, Polders, and other such things could be interesting. Austria, because I loved the CiV version of them and wouldn't mind seeing them again. Sweden, because I'd like to see a more modern Scandinavian nation. The Norwegians have the Viking Shtick down, and Sweden could be similar to what it was in V. It'd make for a good Tundra-based civ.
