Vpr1-Monarch & Emperor

I've also had 2 SGL's at the same time, and I've read of it happening before. I'm just not sure if we can get a MGL with a SGL, and I know we can only have one MGL at a time, even in C3C.

Well, since no elites yet, would recommend waiting and researching ToG and then rushing Newton's. Build others by hand. Maybe trade for Music Theory instead of researching it.

yeah, I'd also read that if you have an MGL then you can still get an SGL but an SGL will block all further leaders. Maybe it changed in the latest patch? And that was why I mentioned it really, it went against what I had believed. (I'm gonna see if I've still got a save for it but I think the auto's overwrite when you start a new game)

I'd say, we should get a palace pre-build first, rush JS BAch's and switch the pre-build to Smith's. If we research a tech every 4 turns(even with deficit), we should get Newton's. Salamanca should begin a cathedral or another expensive building, and change it the turn we get ToG.

I will play tonight. As usual, here is my plan:
  • Switch Oka to Smith immediately.
  • When ToG is researched, switch Salamanca to Newton.
  • Since we did not do any other prebuild, when Bach is know by AI, trade for it and build it immediately using SGL. (I think that was the plan since there was no other prebuild, right?)
  • Complete the road to Saldae as that will be embarkment point.
  • As soon as the 3 cities near the debarkment are conquered, we should be able to trade lux with France & Spain, which I will do to reduce the chance that they will join Carthage against us.
  • I may rush walls in Cadiz and Cirta to make them less tempting targets. I will try to keep 2-3 units in those cities also.
  • If the conquest of Carthagian cities goes well, I will move into position to strike Scandinavia next, but I doubt I can do that in my 10t.
  • After ToG, research Mag, then SP.

We nearly have 2000g. Any suggestions about how to spend it? I guess I should keep some to upgrade garrisons in case Carthage lands near our cities. I could also rush temples in conquered cities to reduce chances of reverting.

Should I attack the galley near our caravels if we can catch it? We seem to have plenty of caravels (7 + 2 on their way).

you could switch salamanca to smiths until we can trade for music theory, then switch to bachs, then switch oke from palace to smiths and then rush newtons in the capital once bachs is done. (if the palace is going to complete then switch capital to newtons to keep prebuilding for bachs, I don't think the ai will beat us to newtons)
But anyway we go about it is fine with me.

edit: and yeah, the caravels were going to run down the galley.

fbouthil, I like that plan. But I say don't attack the Galleys. Let them attack you. Galleys have one attack and one defense, Caravels have one attack and two defense.

I considered TheNemesis666 plan and realizes that Newton is 400sh and the other two wonders are 600sh. I will try to rush one of the most expensive wonders to maximize the number of sh given by SGL, but will keep TheNemesis666 plan in mind.

950AD (0)
Switch Oka to Smith, due in 27t

IBT
Med Inf attack our stack and fail. Lots of Numidian spearman move near Rusicade. A second galley moves out of Rusicade.
Resistance ends in all conquered cities.

960AD (1)
Since Oka has some excess food, decide to start mining some plains to accelerate Smith
Conquer Rusicade, no loss. Kill 4 units next to Rusicade, losing a cav to a MedInf.
Look back at TheNemesis666 screenshot of Carthage made when an embassy was established. I see that Carthage has one horse and one iron. The horse is near Cirta but is not cut from most Carthagian cities because Cadiz has a harbour. I move the 10 cav left next to Cirta.
I remember that Carthage is set to build naval units often so it is probably a lost cause to try to sink all the galleys that may come up, so I will follow viper275 recommendation. I will keep some cav to intercept carthagian troops that lands on our continent.

IBT - 4 units closes on Rusicade, their 2 galleys retreats back to their territory.

970AD (2)
Cirta has musketman as defender so Carthage has discovered gunpowder! :(
Conquer Cirta and Cadiz, Carthage lost his horse! :)
France and Spain refuses to trade lux. The best deal I can find is 16g for one of our lux. Understandable since France and Spain have mostly small cities and wont profit from more lux. Decide to accept those crappy deals in hope it will prevent them from attacking us.

IBT - Resistance ends :borg:

980AD (3)
Rush temples in Rusicade, Cirta and Cadiz.
Conquer Leptis Minor and Oea losing my first battle against a numidian mercenary (ga).

IBT
ToG -> Magnetism in 5t, +165gpt to compensate all the temples I am rushing.

990AD (4)
Conquer Carthage  killing 6 enemy units and Theveste.

IBT - A carthagian galley appears near Saldae

1000AD (5)
Switch Salamanca to Newton (almost forgot about it!) in 19t. Maximize sh, Newton in 16t now.
Make a barrage of caravels to prevent the galley from going deeper in our territory.
Conquer Sabratha and Utica. We now have Ivory.
Rush a few temples.

IBT
Lots of we love the chief day due to the new Ivory :)
The carthagian galley moves counterclockwise around our continent.

1010AD (6)
Reopen the barrage in hope of luring the galley back this way. Will surround it if it does.
Conquer Leptis Minor, capturing 7 workers nearby.
Move on mountain to conquer Hippo next turn, sees knight defending it.

IBT - The galley moves back toward our caravels!

1020AD (7)
Conquer Hippo, the knight is not there, it has fled in fear to the next city! The capital is relocated in Carthago Novo (very far so chances of reverting should be greatly reduced). Hippo is built on silk so we grab another lux.

IBT - zzz

1030AD (8)
Conquer Hadrumetum, leaving only a few far colonies to Hannibal.

IBT
Carthage wants peace, I decline for now as some cities still have a chance of flipping but peace should be sign soon.
Magn->SP in 6t, +106gpt

1040AD (9)
Trade MT from Spain for Chemistry (I do not mind making them closer to MT as they do not have saltpeter.
Hurry Bach in Mauch Chunk with SGL.

IBT - Bach completed.

1050AD (10)
Chances of flips have decreased considerably according to CrpMapStat so I sign peace with Carthage. Half the conquered cities now have a very small chance to flip to Vikings now!
Moving the cav to get ready to attack them. :hammer:

Oups! I forgot to see if lux could be dropped to 0% with Bach completed. I will let rrau check that.

Note: I will be away this weekend (saturday to monday). If my turn comes up, you will have to skip me.

I'm at work, too. It seems that we our territory is surely 50%(maybe more), and when we'll rush libraries to our coastal cities to get all the available tiles, it will be more.

btw, nemesis: good choice for your avatar. :goodjob:
P.S.: I hope, you haven't SD's character, too!(j/k)

Your % of world area: 42
Your % of world population: 63

Troops ready to attack 5 viking cities in the first turn of war!

BTW, what is SD's character? Although I like your avatar TheNemesis666, who's that guy in it? Looking at your avatar guys, I guess I am the only one having trouble fitting the 70x70 pixels and 4K limitations and still having a decent looking avatar.

Ho! My father has a few paintings of his (reproductions, of course). I know his art, but did not know the man himself. But I am getting [offtopic]

Got it. Will play tonight (Olympic viewing permitting) or tomorrow on my day off.

Will :spank: the :viking:

turn 0 (1050)

Rush a temple
Capture Aarhus without loss
lost 1 cav killing elite mace

learn steam power and get SGL, set research at 50% for Industrialization in 6 earning 265gpt for temple/settler rushes (could learn in 4 but would only make 64gpt and would be unable to rush improvements/settlers

turn 4 (1090)

Newton's due in 6 and Smith's in 9 and no one else is building them. Will save SGL for now.
Capture Copenhagen without loss of any hit points
Capture Trondheim (viking capital) with loss of 2 cavs (and no resistors)

Vikings beg for peace, but would only give 2 cities and have troops set to take one they won't give next turn, so no.

turn 8 (1130)

Capture Alesund
We have captured all easily captured cities, so make peace with Vikings and get 2 cities and all their gold (18)

ibt

turn 9 (1140)

not much

ibt

learned industrialization
Completed Newton's

turn 10 (1150)

moved some troops

Notes:

we own 55% land and 70% pop
Set Salamanca for US and SGL is Fortified - if group likes, King Alexander can rush US before pressing enter (I vote for this)
Currently set to research electricity in 6 with 256 gpt (can get in 4 with less gpt)
I left 398 in treasury - could rush another temple or use it to trade for Printing press if you want (I personally wouldn't as I think we're going to reach domination in the next couple of turn sets)
You have a small stack of cavs fortified near the cities by the French/Spanish border

I vote SGL rush on Universal Sufferage, it's 800 shields. Not too bad with a factory but we may as well grab it straight away so it can have some effect for us before we hit domination. Big question is, who do we want to war next? (I'll check out the save tonight when I get home and will have more input for this question then)

edit: and I wouldn't even bother with printing press, for domination victory republic is more useful anyway. (and I don't think we'll have time or a need for shakespeares)

From 42% of world area to 55%! :goodjob: Excellent turn rrau!

If I am not mistaken, there is still 2t before the deals I made with France & Spain expires. Those deals have served their purpose I guess as they did not decide to attack us. Spain definitely has the strength necessary to attack us. They must have a lot of Ancien Cavalry and some Cursaders due to the wonders they built. Therefore, I suggest France is the next target. :hammer:

I also vote for rushing US as I do not see anything else useful to rush before the game ends. It is also too late for an age of science (I have never used SGL for that as I prefer rushing wonders).

I suggest NOT to build any factory as I do not think we will play enough turns before victory to repay their building cost (if a factory takes 20t to build, it takes 40t after it is built to repay its cost).

I agree on the no factories too, we're building cavs fast enough as it is, we'll get another 3 cav out of each city for the same cost as a factory. Maybe even renew the trade with spain to keep her onside and out of the french war.
