VQ05 - The Conquistadors

Not many conquistadors left, I've upgraded/killed most of them.

I've only seen one Grenadier so far ... so maybe with the South secured it'll be the only one we see ... although there could be more cities in the northern fog, I've sent boats up to look.

A relatively quiet set of turns, all the big news is about JC.

First off, I switch us to State Property and cancel most of courthouses (not that useful now).

I also missed the whip, so I switch us to slavery too, whipped a few units and buildings, and switch back to Emanicip again 5 turns later.

Now, about that rascal who call himself caesar: ...

First off, I noticed his galleon in my first turn: ...

He wondered between the two island of the New World, before finally settling back where I first spotted it.

Damned! I was so close to denying hm that city! He is obviously teasing me!

Then, he asked us to go to war against Qin.

vq05-1854AD-JC-war.jpg

You must be kidding me. Go make your salad and stop wasting my time.

That must have pissed him off, and he returned the next turn, informing us that he is no longer supplying us his salad

What a jerk!

I have no choice but to settle at the southern tip of the south island:

Sh!t, one turn too late.

Turn 7: 1854AD:

Turn 8: 1856AD:

JC cancel all deals

Turn 9: 1858AD

Research: Steam Power > Railroad

We have coal

Turn 10; 1860AD:
Murcia founded.

Couple of notes:
- Spread missionary quick to the new world cities to make use of the OR we are in.
- Some more troops should be arriing at the north island. Use them, if possible to take out the last barb city (it has 2 grenadiers, which will eat our cannon alive, so careful there).
- I have another stack of 6 units or so waiting for transport back in the old world.
- Two units have goto: a hindu miss is heading towards Tianjin o convert it. A cannnon is heading south towards susa to remove the red face.
- Steam power is in,. we have coal in one of the existing mines, so nno need to destroy any improvement just for mines.
- I set us to grab railraod next. Thereafter, suggest going AssLine.
- Despite what I thought earlier, apparently Mansa is not willing to trade cities. War is indeed inevitable. I suggest we take on JC first to boost relation with Qin.

:wavey:

Question: Why turn off the courthouses? Yes, our maintenance cost is reduced with State Property, but isn't eliminated. In addition, we need a courthouse in the city that builds the Forbidden Palace.

Railroad is going to be key. We need to rail the old world asap so that we can rapidly move troops against whatever civ we're conquering (JC next, most like). Have you started moving workers back?

Since Maquis is on the road, I'll post a roster:
GreyFox -- Just went!
seezachswim -- UP!
Bobrath -- Settlers! Er, I mean, on deck!
ChrTh -- On deck in SGOTM!
Maquis -- UP in SGOTM!

Clarification: I did not turn off courthouse, I merely delayed them. With state property, they are not as urgently needed as before. Growth and initial culture takes precendence now.

Nope. Workers are not moved back. We have I think 3 workers back in the old world. 4-5 workers in the new world.

Do we need the Forbidden Palace? I thought it just affected distance maintenance.

Not sure, might need to test that. The wonders list at civfanatics just says Maintenance.

I played around in Worldbuilder, and it looks like sawzachswam is right: building a Forbidden Palace while in State Property is not necessary. Someone should confirm, though, since my WB sk1llz aren't l33t.

Hmm, The save is over 500 kb, how do I post it? Also, how do you get pictures to come up like that, I can only figure out how to put thumbnail pictures up. I'm sorry about this, I'm a bit technologically illiterate. (how's that for irony, a gamer who has the computer skills of a kindergartener:lol: )

For Images: I think most of us get a free pictures server like ImageShack or Photobucket. I used Photobucket, it gives you the IMG tag for you to copy to forumn post.

For the >500KB save, you should see the "Upload File" at the bottom of every forumn page, between "Chatroom" and "Contact Us". Use this to upload the save. After uploading, click on Viewfolder. You should see your save file in the folder listing. Rightclick on it, and "Copy Link Location". Then, in the forumn post, add it as a link (there should be an icon in each forum post editbox which looks like a globe).

Incidentally, for images, you can also use the Upload File link. The CFC staff had did a wonderful job of providing an interface to Image Shack.

Play around with it, and let me know if you still have problems.

Turn 0: Everything seems to be in order. Change one courthouse build to worker.

Turn 1: Ceasar really seems to have an axe to grind as he asks us to convert to confuciasm. I decline. Lots of builds finish, which I'm not going to name here because I'm to tired. I do infrastructure in new world and units in old world.(mostly)

Turn 2: Not much this turn. I set up troops to take last barb city. Does the foriegn cities in the new world mean war with their respective owners? If so, then it might be a good idea to keep some of this military buildup at home.

Turn 3: Siege of last barb city (can't remeber name). First cannon gets lucky and wins. Second dosn't and dies. Cav wins and grenadier win and city is ours! The barbs are no more. More Cavs finish in homeland, I start on more military. I decide to keep some of our miltary force in homeland as well because Ceasar just made peace with qin and he will be looking for target in a couple of turns.

Turn 4: A few builds complete, not much else.

Turn 5: Mansa finishes Broadway, trades us hit musicals immediatly for gems.

Turn 6: Valencia is built in northern isle, railroads come in, assembly line in 8.
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/Civ4ScreenShot00192.JPG
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/Civ4ScreenShot0020.JPG
Turn 7: hmmmm, Mansa adopts both police state and free speech in same turn. What an interesting society his citizens must live in. The usual, builds complete shifting some of the focus in homeland cities from units to infra. I'm starting to get worried about a victory by mansa though. He's got to be at least 5-6 techs ahead of us.

Turn 8: Those accursed barbians are at it again, another city pops up. New barb city comes out of anarchy, is fairly productive right off the bat. I also spotted another chinese settler and infantry, on the north isle. It looks like they will most likely settle to the east of Vandal. (great, now we are forced to declare on all three major powers)
http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads11/Civ4ScreenShot0021.JPG
Turn 9: Not much, positoning troops to take newest barb city, which is only defended by two longbows right now.

Turn 10: I made some major :smoke: this turn so please forgive me. Using the cav that was already at the barb city I attack at 98.8 percent odds, thinking I could heal up with a promo next turn and then take the city. Except the cav died. My computer screen suffered greatly as a result. Also this turn I built Zarazoga in southern isle. This puts us back into the red at 70 percent science, so next player should probably focus more on infra builds.

Notes

-Made a pretty good start on spreading hinduism in northern isle, southern not as much.
-If Julius attacks I think we should be able to hold him off, but I'm not certian.
-I doubt we will have much of a chance at building the UN, because mansa has such a lead right now. If he builds it we should still be on the ballot because of our size.
-Apologies in advance for any leftover go-to orders, I tried to cancel them all but not sure if I got all of them.
-the cannon and grenadier supposed to be heading toward the barb city in the north isle.

Thanks for the help Greyfox.

Pretty good turns ... too bad about some unlucky rolls, but that's the way of life, you take some, you lose some.

According to the variant, we will have to rid them off the New World. So, I suggest we start building up forces in the Old World while continuing to settle in the New until there is no more spaces left. Then we attack, JC, Qin, and Mansa in that order. Objective is to capture their cities in New World. Immediately sign peace once that is done.

One thing we can do is to get JC to declare on us (if he dares) which will pull MM into the war. To such end, we could demand tributes and all that from JC.

I know he is up, but I don't know if he knows he is up. Anyway, guess most of US players are out enjoying their memorial ....

EDIT: opps: I should reload the page instead of leaving the page there, go for lunch, type in a reply in the one-hour-old page, and found that I make a fool of myself...

So very not exciting turns here...

Oh except for the fact that we finally popped a Great Prophet!!! So in 1886 we completed the Hindu Shrine. Much rejoicing over the world.

We also finished the Kremlin so buying things will be cheaper in the near future.

Researched Combusion and Physics (few turns left on this). Removed the blight that was the barbs (auto raize tho). Settled three more cities. Turned culture up to 10% to help take control of the New World. Hinduism covers the entire northern New World. Starting to spread in the southern world.

Will someone please just take Cyrus out of the game???
civ4screenshot00025nd.jpg

Here's the new world (notice some more colors on it !!!)
civ4screenshot00035yw.jpg

We did get gold from a barb hut pop (79 to be exact). So no lucky tech pop there.

Sorry for the lame writeup, but its pure building in my turns (ignoring the easy barb destruction).

The Save:

Geez ... so now we must fight the Romans, the Malinese, and the Chinese? Heh, only the French was left out,.and he is annoyed with us.

--

The Chinese should be left alone first ... we would most probably be able to flip Macau if we concentrate on cultural builts in the closest city (name unreadable).

The Malinese should be left alone also, at least for now. We should concentrate on hitting JC, after one or two more cities in the New World to ensure no more foreign infestation.

Ok, looks like the barbs are gone from the new world, unfortunatly we have several AI to work on.

So what does everyone think for a victory? Diplo is out, since we have to attack everyone... Domination? Not sure how we're doing on land area...

Roster check:

Maquis - On deck
GreyFox -
seezachswim -
bobrath - Just played
ChrTh - UP!

I see it. Won't have time to play tonight (or if I do, won't be enough time to do a good job), so once again I offer Maquis a chance to swap.
