For those people who have Direct2Drive versions of Civ4 & Warlords, the standard patches won't work. You need to get your patch direct from Direct2Drive.

The good news is that these patches are apparently now available:
http://www.direct2drive.com/patches/

--------------------------------------------
In other news, the first Beyond The Sword patch (3.02) is available from Firaxis' website:
http://www.firaxis.com/downloads/Patch/Civ4BeyondTheSwordPatch3.02.exe

According to Gyathaar, the changelog is largely non-descript (it says something along the lines of compatibility of European & US versions), but it does fix some crash errors & infinite loops.

The Warlords 2.13 patch is also available there:
http://www.firaxis.com/downloads/Patch/Civ4WarlordsPatch2.13.exe

As is Vanilla Civ 1.74:
http://www.firaxis.com/downloads/Patch/Civ4Patch1.74_Final.exe

No sign of the patches on 2K games yet.

EDIT: The new patches have been added to our downloads database!

D2D Warlords owners only need to download the Warlords patch, as it will patch both Civ4 vanilla (retail and D2D) and Warlords.

apparently the D2D patch only works with the downloaded version of Warlords. i d/l and installed, but the game wouldn't run without some code that did not come with it... i'm getting the proper one now and reinstalling everything.

Well... The game DOESNT START.

Reinstalled like 3 times and done all over and over again. TO NO AVAIL.

I give up.

Bye

Same thing happend to me!!!! Error says that it can't find D3DX9_32.DLL

Dammit, now whenever i try to play Rhyes and Fall mod it shuts down and wont let me play

Ok, after reading these posts, I have canceled the download for the Warlords patch. I'll just wait until Tuesday and get BTS.

Is everyone having the problem with the Vanilla or Warlords patch?

And are we sure the new DX9 drivers fix everything? Including the ability to play mods?

I think I'll wait a little while, too.

edit: Just saw the download size: 60 MB  That's quite a patch! Also saw that Cossacks were nerfed in Vanilla but their strength still differs from what it is in Warlords...interesting tidbit. And the Warlords GNP graph will show total, not raw, commerce, while I'm pretty sure it is still raw commerce in Vanilla. Which means Vanilla will still have the strange situation of being able to have a halfway decent economy with negative GNP (which in itself is a bit of an oddity).

I suspect you need to install BtS before you can install the new patches - any of them - without the games refusing to start and the error message "the file D3Dx9_32.DLL could not be found" turning up. Maybe this is some halfbaked attempt by Firaxis to prevent piracy.

well, now that i have completely uninstalled both vanilla and warlords (and all components) and removed all traces from the registry, i cannot install ANY programs. my pc is screwed. when it asks for the second disc (vanilla) and i insert it, my screen goes white and the whole thing crashes. if i have to put this thing in the shop, will firaxis )or whomever) pay?? i cannot play their games, and now i cannot do my job and make money to buy more. DO NOT USE THESE PATCHES. THEY ARE USELESS AND WILL RUIN YOUR COMPUTER.           i will not purchase any other products from this company and i will complain LOUD AND LONG and advise anyone to boycott these games. unless yer addicted like i am. :(

*edit* The patch referenced by the OP is apparently for folks who downloaded the game. If you have disks, you should be able to use the patches from the "update" menu option. However, neither presently work for me :( *edit*

ok, I went to multiplayer and gamespy asked me to download both patches. I did. Then neither of them worked due to the missing .dll file referenced by others here. I re-did this three times (after uninstalling and installing). I am now only able to play the release version of each game, because none of the patches will load. I also can't get back to my most-recently installed patch (i.e., the one that did work). I tried the digital version referenced in the original post, above, it won't work either, I suppose because I have the retail CD versions of the game. I have not yet tried to update my direct x drivers, but I assume these will be included in BTS. Besides, another person here updated the drivers and it still didn't work.

So I'm playing the release versions until I get BTS.

This is very irritating. The developers have, until now, put out non-buggy stuff. They've set a high standard.

I have only downloaded the standard patches for the games and my system meets all the requirements of both games. Those of you who successfully patched, please tell us how you did it or why you think yours worked when ours didn't.

got this tidbit from the civ IV site:

Corrupted Installation Files (from Macrovision support)

Error Code: -5009 : 0x8000ffff

1) Clean out the temp folder. The temp folder can be determined from the TEMP environment variable. Open command prompt and type "set temp" to see the value then go to that folder and delete all the files/folders within it.

2) Corrupt InstallShield files. Go to C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Professional\RunTime and delete or rename IsProBE.tlb then re-run the installer.

this worked for vanilla and i was able to reinstall. now to see if warlords works, then patch them (NOT the latest ones! EGAD...) since all the errors involved the installer, this made sense, and hopefully there will be good news and i can return to my reclusive ways...;)

works for vanilla, but the file was back after the install. deleted it again, now warlords is hung on the installshield screen... :nuke:
