Warlords & Civ4 Patches available on Direct2Drive, First BTS Patch

Argh, I also lost BOTH Civ 4 and WARLORDS because I installed both patches an hour ago. I had ORIGINALLY bought CIV 4, and could not run the game AT ALL for over THREE MONTHS, getting the PLEASE INSERT Correct CD ROM message. I forgot what happened to FINALLY get it fixed by I found a CIV FANATICS message that gave instructions for a cheat and it always worked.
Til Now.
When I try to start CIV 4, I am back to the Please insert Correct CD (2 year old, high-end Laptop computer, XP Home, nVidia GO 6800 working great).
Worse, when I try to start WARLORDS, which is what I REALLY like: I get: Boost_Python-VC71-MT-1_32.DLL was not found. Reinstall the application may fix the problem.
But it won't let me re-install without first removing the entire program.
GEEZ, I HATE THIS, and feel very cheated.
I love the game but have NEVER had one title be the source of SO much continuing disappointment!
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

this helped:

"Try removing everything in C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Local settings\Temp, and in WINDOWS\Temp."

now to fight the urge to patch... :crazyeye:

Are you saying the new patches worked, or that you were able to patch to the next-to-last patch (i.e., were you able to just get back where you started, or did you actually load the new patch and have it function properly?)?

Thanks.

I had the same error message once. Unistalled, reinstalled, and this time while installing CIV4 I didn't cancel the DirectX installation.
I hope it helps

It's asking you for the CD again because the patch copied over the cracked executable that let you run without the CD. You either need to get it working with the CD or wait until a new crack is released.

For the people with the missing DLL, you need to update your DirectX install by downloading it from MS.

Thanks for the suggestion, but that particular Boost_Python DLL I cannot find anywhere. If I go to Windows Update, it does not show that I am really 'missing' any updates.
Are you familiar, and can you or someone answer this question:
Is it possible that a game WON'T run because it needs some sort of DirectX in the computer that does NOT show up as part of the available files when you do a WINDOWS UPDATE? My system doesn't show me needing any other files!
Look forward to that answer...

next-to-last. i got both games to install and run, patched them to 1.61 and 2.08, and played about 30 mins of warlords. don't think i'm going to risk the new patches till i get BTS, what a fiasco... :crazyeye:

@rikolus: just follow the link on page 1 and DL the whole June07 direct x file. if all else fails, google the entire file name for the dll, someone might have one available.

Hi D, Thanks.
Here's what I did.
After further reading and seeing a few more suggestions like you made above, today I successfully installed the DirectX DLL update (the June edition, said to be most current). I then tried both Civ IV and WARLORDS and both still worked fine. I saw I already 1.61 Civ so no problem there (I am not shooting for the new updates, just something fairly current).
However, I had version 2.0 W/L, so I did what others have suggested, updated to 2.08 It said I have Definately done the update. SO, I doubleclicked on my Desktop W/L icon, game started fine. I took a look at the ADVANCED About This Build, and it STILL Showed 2.0 I went into a game in progress and saw that update changes had NOT been done... Colisseum still costs 120, Beurocracy still at Medium Upkeep, etc. I thought maybe I did not do it correctly (from patch at Take 2 Website). So I repeated, and when I went to Install, it said that the 2.08 was ALREADY installed! Huh? It asked if I wanted to install again, which I did, but same 2.0 result.
I re-started computer; same result. It's still 2.0
However, one thing DID change after the 2.08 'install'... if I try to run the game from the DISK in the drive, (open and close the drive door) I get that 'Boost_Python....' error!
How could the game think it upgraded to 2.08 but in reality it didn't?

my gf had a problem updating warlords to 2.08 also....she has a newer notebook running vista and the game never got it right but installing manually did the trick

also, make sure you are patching from the source of your game. i believe that the patches for store-bought games differ from the ones for downloaded versions. and i would repatch anyway, my pc said the patches were still installed, even after i had purged the registry and all files from the old installs were long gone. when i ran the installers, there was no prompt to overwrite or replace, so there must have been a stray dll or something with some 'patch DNA' stuck to it, making the 'puter think that 2.08 was still there. the worst that can happen is you waste 5 minutes repatching; i lost 2 days of work due to this debacle, and had no fun... but all is well in the end, and when i get caught up, i can play civ again! sadly, wheeeee...

I think I understand D... in other words, look for a "different" 2.08 patch source (not the TAKE 2 website patch I used initially). Will look for others and post what happened.

I had no luck with getting any patch for WARLORDS. I have tried different sources and each time I install it, I am told I am now at 2.08, but when I get into the game, it's still 2.0. Oh well. I sure wish T2 or whoever could get these problems resolved, but I have a hunch it ain't gonna happen....

This is very odd, the new patchs for my warlord and beyond the sword both install fine. However, I got an error message for vanilla when I installed 1.74 it read could not locat civilization iv. When I go into my game to check the version it shows that 1.74 has successfully downloaded. Once into my game during beyond the sword everything works fine until I finish building wonders that were added during warlords such as THE GREAT WALL. During that point my game shuts down and I get an error message saying my game needs to be restarted.

Anyone know why this is happening and how to solve?

Actually, the error on wonders are only when I play the rhye's & fall mod in beyond the sword. It works fine in other games.

After patching, have any of your tried rebooting your computer before/after running the game?

yes, i rebooted my pc and still had the problem with wonders being built.
I am thinking that the patch must have done something with the movie clips that made the game shut down when those movies are to be played

You do remember the discs for Civ IV were incorrectly labelled? The "PLAY" disc actually isn't; the "Install" disc is the actual play disc you need to have in the drive to play.
