Wat bug fix seems to have backfired hilariously

Is this as abusive as it sounds?
Can you field a total 6 scientists?
Do you get +4 beakers from jungle with both Uni and Wat?
Do you get the % extra beakers from both buildings?
Does both buildings get buffed by Free Thought?

I can imagine angry comments about this in MP...

Pretty much
Yes
Unsure, no Jungle in range of the city. Depends on how they coded it.
Yes
Yes

It isn't totally ridiculous in this case because I wasn't next to a mountain, so the Wat was just an Observatory with two additional Scientist slots. At best that amounted to 1 extra Great Scientist (though I doubt it).

Odd, I recently had a game where I captured a holy city with Jesuit Education, and another game where someone spread Jesuit Education to me. No Wats available in either game. Maybe more things need to go wrong before that occurs?

This is my favorite bug. As a programmer, this is exactly the kind of thing that sneaks up on you after you fix something.

1. You should normally be able to; if food is a problem just run food cargo ships.

2. Yes you would, but the jungle benefit is quite small unless you are playing a civ with a jungle bias.

3. Yes, you would

4. Yes, they would.

You don't field 6 scientists, you save them up for bulbing later era techs. Part of the strategy to win science victories in under 170 turns (quick speed.) With scientists from great person points, faith buying scientists, Hubble, Oxford, free rationalism tech, there is a great bulbing party.

Even with being able to buy Watts with Poland... it means compromising the already killer policy strategies. Right now with Poland I can get full Liberty/Tradition/Rationalism and the tenants I desire... wonder if giving up finishing liberty or trad and less free great people is offset by the free Watts... time to try it!

May I suggest that it may be due to the presence of Positive Test Cases (i.e. check that Siam can't buy Univerisites with faith) but lack of Negative ones (i.e. check any other civ does not have access to Wat).

It does not have to be due to an "amazing" QA department but due to time restrictions. It's not uncommon in QA to be short in time and decisions have to be made about the coverage.

Anyhow, back on OP. It seems like a nice bug I wouldn't mind to check for an early SV. Pacal, perhaps...

I know I agree. I was just being cynical... :crazyeye:

Yes, lack of negative tests is disappointing... I'm just so disapointed that through the whole lifetime of Civ V, Patches claim to fix 'x' and tend to break 'y' and 'z' in the process...

This strategy has a problem on deity... going through the motions fine with Poland's extra policies, and the AI took it!

Also the problem with going Piety, is one of these things:

Not finishing tradition means cannot buy engineers with faith.

Not finishing liberty means no early prophet, and with the AI on deity being so aggressive with religion, maybe no religion. Also the golden age liberty policy does decrease culture costs of future policies, and because Poland's free policies don't increase culture costs, that is a nice policy to get.

Anyhow, maybe should try this strategy on multiplayer, really don't know anybody who picks piety on mp...
