This was the best match of the tournament so far, and though Argentina were the better team it would have been nice if the Ivory Coast had got something more from the game IMHO.

Yeah, I was hoping for a last-minute equalizer too. I sure don't want the Dutch qualification hopes to depend on getting a result against this Argentinian team, although it is of course possible. But in the end, the Argentines were just cannier than Côte d'Ivoire.

What a boring match that was. Well the Dutch got the result I wanted. So far I am two from two in predicting the result in this group.

NL won 1-0 in a match that was tactically acceptable but not nice to watch. It seems to turn out to be true that there are few chances to score in this World Cup. This match had precisely one really clear chance, which was converted by the best player on the pitch, Robben. If that makes it a deserved win I'm not that sure...
Holland relied far too much on one man and in the second half mostly stopped playing, a bit like England, though on a higher level.

Yes it was deserved - just look at possession ( 61% for Holland). S&M never mounted any kind of organized attack on the Dutch goal, only a few, albeit rather dangerous counters. Even in the second half, I never doubted that the Dutch kept looking for the second goal, but it had to be done with great care lest we be hit by a counter. It was indeed rather worse than the first half.

I agree though that it wasn't the greatest game for neutral viewers, but that can be expected when it's 30 degrees on the pitch. As a Dutchman, I'm happy (except with the defence which didn't look all that reliable). Oranje took three points from a very dangerous opponent in a very mature display, and that's what ultimately counts.

And that's the most sober commentary I'll be prepared to offer from now on .
