We Need an Atheist Symbol!

National Society for Darwinists, Atheists, and Pro-choicers?

Are you calling my best friend a Nazi?

(I'm not an atheist, but my best friend is.)

Besides, no religion, no symbol.
Hey, just because athiests aren't a religion doesn't mean they can't have a symbol. Commy-nism isn't a religion and they have symbols.

But then again, Atheism is as much of an ideology as msot religions are, or indeed political ideologies.

What does that have to do with my statement?

Great, now atheists want to have a symbol .

Why are you so intolerent. I hope you arent like this in real life.

Athiests wether you want to beileve it or not have the same rights others do.

Hey, its not my fault that they are the most distrusted minority in the United States. Its not my fault that I dislike them whenever they run up to me and tell me that there is no God in my face or bash my religion. You can say that you dont believe in God, just dont rub it in my face that there is no God .

Thats the thing I dislike about atheists is that they tend to bash religion, pick at only the bad parts of religion and ignoring the good, rudely telling religious people that there is no God, and insulting holy objects that many religious hold so dear. CurtSibling (and possibly StarWorms too) is one example who shaped my views on atheists.

How can someone tell if someones religious by looking at them? Unless they wear jewelry or some religious robe in public i cant tell.

Please do tell me your secret though, i would like to get to know more athiests. ;)

Atheism may not be a religion per se, but I would say that believing that there is no god is just as much of a belief as believing there is one. :crazyeye:
Firstly, not all atheists believe that there is no God. An atheist doesn't believe in God, and I disagree that "not believing in something" is just as much a belief as "believing in something". It's not a belief, by definition - it's not having a belief.

Secondly, one belief does not make a belief system.

As for symbols, one is the American Atheists' atom: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Atom_of_Atheism-Zanaq.svg .

But there is no authority to declare an "atheist symbol", and getting all atheists to agree on a symbol is about as likely or meangful as getting all theists to agree on the same symbol.

I seen plenty happen in this forum. If a poster identifies him or herself as a Christian or some other Religion that has a belief in a deity. Boom the atheists are on them like flies on a piece of meat.

Thats because civilization is an intellectual game, not to say there arent religious intellectuals but they are much less common. :p

Whilst there are a few militant atheists around, in my experience, there's a lot more pushing of religion (usually Christianity). I grew up in state schools where children are preached at and have to pray and worship. What examples do you have of having atheism forced upon you? Do people run up to you in the street? It's only Christians who do that to me.

Do you miss the irony that you're doing the same here, by judging atheism on a few bits of bad experience you've had?

Then ignore the ouspoken Atheists on this site, and fine quiet Atheists. If you judge them all by the actions of a few then you are stooping to the level of the intolerant Atheists that you complain about daily.

My symbol for Atheism is a big hand that gives the whole world the middle finger :p

Wow, I'm inclined to say that this is the most unbelievable statement that you have ever said on this forum.

Hmm i never encountered "forced" worship here in the states. If you made a fuss out of it im sure they would of gotten sued.

Would you like a symbol?
Would it make you feel more secure in your belief?

Not much, I just wanted to get that out of my system ;)

My, for the religion that has arguably the most influence in the world, a country dedicated to it, and at the helm of some of the most powerful nations in the world, we're awfully insecure, aren't we?

I dont know many christians with views like him and i live in a very christian area.

(Just getting that out there)

I have seen plenty of examples in this forum. Namely atheists boldy and arrogantly rub their belief that there is no God in my face by saying "There is no God". Every time that I state that I believe in God, an atheist is not to far to arrogantly say "Hey, there is no such thing as God". Whatever happened to respecting other people's faith even if they believe in a flying pink elephant?

Nah, thats my international symbol to the world to "bite me!" ;)

Suing people is not a way to solve problems. I'm seriously worried that many Americans have the mentality that people have an obligation to sue others if they feel that they have been wronged.
