We Need an Atheist Symbol!

Thats not an atheist belief. Just a belief. There is no such thing as atheist belief, except the atheisim itself which isn't actually a belief in the first place, merely a fact.
If an atheist believes evolution is real, then they have a belief in science. The belief that something that is 99% possible in life, it is truth. But they are only partly true. They have no reason to round off to that 100%. So they believe science to hold the "secret truth" in life. Because the only way to believe it, means it must be falsafiable. Which is exactly why they put their faith in it.

I will not tell anyone where to put their faith inside this thread. But I will say I will not believe it is truth until you can prove it to me 100% certain. Otherwise, you are wasting my time.

Are you trying to say all atheists believe truth is self evident to makind? I don't and I'm an atheist. SO there goes your theory.
OK, my mistake. I believe truth is self-evident to mankind. I guess atheists don't. But you will always be looking for it then I guess is what I am saying. I know that might sound unreasonable but I don't see how it is. I apologize if it is offensive in any way, sincerely. I wish truth was self-evident to you as well.

Atheisim is not a religon.
Again, I still stand by what I said. Sorry if you disagree.

Um, If I need a picture... How about a smiley as the symbol. This one ->

Atheism, as Al says, is something without boundaries, without requirement, and without definition. It would be kind of pointless to organize and group yourselves with a required symbolism and such.

Your not an atheist then.
He clearly is.

Atheism is a lack of belief of a god. Believing there is no god may not be an atheist belief but it clearly categorises him as an atheist.

Meh if we were forced to use a symbol I'd use this

Otherwise, we need no symbols.

I just came up for a great idea for a symbol. It would be one of those crossed out circle signs for parking but insted of having a P inside of it it would have and exclamation point.

BTW whatever happened to no more than two posts in a row without a picture?

A boundry of Atheism seems to be the inability to understand philosophy in it's rawest form. Their minds seem to be attached to the material world. Thus they have boundries.

I understand that there are circumstances in which having a universal symbol serves a real purpose, I really do.

But you know? I rather like the fact that we have many different groups each using what they consider to be "the universal symbol" and large angry arguments between atheists about which symbol is better or whether or not we should have a symbol at all.

The fact that we can't agree on anything in this matter says more about us as a group than any individual symbol ever could.

PS -- there is a fairly complete list of competing "universal symbols" in this article. By the way, I agree with the author: if we have to use a symbol, the empty set symbol is the best choice as much for what it doesn't say as for what it says.

But it's impossible to prove a theory 100% certain!

Then it is agnostics who need no symbol.

Atheism is the belief there is no God.

Not always.

Hard atheism - belief there is no God
Soft atheism - no beliefs about God

Atheism is exactly this lack of a belief in a God. As well as a belief in themselves to define what is truth.

How about this?

It has the A and looks wicked cool! :D

But it's impossible to prove a theory 100% certain!

Yep :D Thats why if you believe it is truth, you put faith in it.

Not always.

Hard atheism - belief there is no God
Soft atheism - no beliefs about God
Soft atheism is basically agnostic.
If you believe there might be a God at all you are agnostic.

But it's impossible to prove a theory 100% certain!

Erm, no.

Strong atheism: I believe there is no god
Weak atheism: I don't believe there is a god

Having no beliefs about god would make you an agnostic or an apatheist.

Agnostic: I'm not sure there is a god
Apatheist: The question of the existence or non-existence of god isn't worth discussing.

Apatheism may sound like a world view for the intellectually lazy and the unmotivated, but keep in mind that Siddhartha (Buddha) was an apatheist.
