Welcome New Members

Just to ask you, how many of you have played Civ1?

1st PC game I ever bought although I'd been playing Avalon Hill and SPI strategy games since the mid-70s. No more map to spill coffee over or little cardboard counters to lose

Hello, I played Civ many, many years ago and I am a great fan of Sid Meier. I love strategy games. NHRR55

We are getting quite an influx of new members to the site, presumably because the release-date for Civ-IV is getting nearer & nearer, and people are coming here in search of news & info.

As such, we thought that its probably a good idea to have an "Introduction / Welcome to CivFanatics thread" where people can say hello and tell us a bit about themselves.

For new members, please use this thread to tell us a little about yourself, your civ-addictions etc etc.

@regulars, please make people feel welcome, but try not to drown the thread - ensure that we keep a reasonably high ratio of wheat-to-chaff. ;)

BTW - out of interest, I joined Civfanatics a couple of months before the release of Civ3 - the interesting thing is that I had just rediscovered Civ-II, and was looking for some strategies for it - I was completely oblivious to the fact that there was a Civ3 in production, and it wasn't until I came here that I found out about it! Anyone else like that for C-IV?

ok hi i am alex;)

Hello Friends. I've downloaded the Road to War patch for BTS several times but I cannot get it to work. Please help. Thanking you in advance.

Hi all,
I am "Benford's Law", a new member to the wonderful CivFanatics forums. I've played Civ3 (classic with 1.29 patch) off and on, but I've never won a game before on it at Monarch level. My stubborn ego refused to let me play at a lower difficulty level. Favorite civ: Babylonians.

Now I have a new problem. My dad gave me Civ 4 Gold as an early X-Mas gift today! :mischief:

One quick question: Does Civ 4 Gold include the 1.74 patch of the game and the 2.13 patch of the included Warlords version?

Thanks for any welcomes and replies. I have a lot of Civ manual reading to do. :)

~Benford's Law

By the way, the reason why I asked how many of you had played Civ1 is because I thought that if you'd been playing it since 1993 or earlier Civ2 would look boring.

Long time lurker. I have enjoyed the wonderful insights so many have provided to may my CIV experience more enjoyable (and less frustrating). I'm in the great state of WI in the USA, where we are currently getting out first snow (making it to December before snow is a nice thing).

Hi, long time lurker. Welcome to CFC. Orig. from N. Ontario, just across the
border from you. Know what you mean about snow. Trouble is, where I now
live (S.W. England, by the sea), we don't get any. Kinda miss it though.;)

just found this site...
I'm a Civ player since V1...the most addicitng game ever developed. What's interesting, back in the Civ 1 days, Sid used to be a regular on boards and forums.

Anyway, I've played 1, 2, 3, and bought 4...playing but never really got good good at it. Never took the time to really learn the units, etc. Just went along by trial and error....but believe me, I've spent many a red eye day, staying up all night..playing many hours in a row. Its just fun.

Now here is this site. Hopefully I have the time to really get into the game again. I've not played for quite awile...need to buy the 2 newest releases for civ 4.

Anyone know of a cheap place to ge tthem...I do not do Ebay.

just posting to get that message off my back, came here a fair bit, used it for info, only play on civ 4 'cause civ 3 is too damned slow, and even then only beyond the sword. Even then only on world maps... and then I try to isolate myself to Australia just because I can.

Love the corporations, hate the spies

Hello all,

Long time lurker, first time poster. Been playing Civ since Civ II about ten years ago and started to read CivFanatics a few years back playing Civ III.

Recently bought a new system and Civ IV Gold Edition and now looking to get some more game time and perhaps try a few GOTMs and online games.

I usually play Noble level and eek out Cultural or Space Race victories. I'd like to play at higher difficulties and finally figure out just how to set up the economics to churn out Great People factories and domination victories.

Hi

I fell in love with Civ and must say I've absolutely loved Civ3 but do not enjoy Civ4 at all.
Anyway just recently got Conquests and enjoy the new changes and importantly the conquests that have been made available.
This made me look at the GOTM as this sounds like the challenges that I would like to do. However being a newbie to the chat forum I am still learning all the jargon.
Can someone help me out with these terms?

What is a CxxC or a CxxxC city?
Is 20k the size of a city or a condition to winning?
And was does Unit Suicide mean from the A1?

This might help me have a go at the SID level new GOTM.
My theory is that what doesn't kill you only helps you learn more about the game.

Cheers Everyone.
