Now that we are quite a few years since the collective uprising.. Has anything positive happened? I feel most places involved reverted or went backwards since then.

I did not see any significant changes. Iran is still a Islamic theocratic republic and Syria, when I last heard in the news, was ravaged by civil war. And Egypt…..I haven’t heard anything significant from them since the ousting of their president for a new one.

No, the biggest effect of it was negative (mass migration of refugees from the region into Europe). Mubarak and Ghaddafi weren't perfect, but Ghaddafi especially did a good job of keeping migrants out of Europe.

Had some beautiful Syrian, Lebonese, Persian and Afghani dishes last 6 years or so.

You don't need mass migration to get foreign cuisine. We have Mexican food in South Africa, but we don't have any significant Mexican population, for example.

sadly most of the outcomes resulted in more dictatorships. issue with a lot of corrupt states is that there are a lot of powerful and awful people lined up to take over after dictators

a massive force arriving to destroy an area and - regardless of cultural continuity, which is not a thing in the real world, at least not in the strange way you understand it - cause massive suffering, vs migrants showing up in an area as a minority and increasing capital. in the former, lots of dead people, in the latter, lots of rich people.

honestly some day i'd like to taste a good, proper try at british cooking. people ate it for centuries, so has to be good, right?

Well we ate it up to the 80's.
Outside a few baked goods, fish and chips and old people eating roasts it's mostly gone.
You can look for deflections in trendlines. Obviously, many things happen altogether, but you can't say "oh, it's better" very easily.
