Posted this over in BNW section, but I feel like that conversation makes much more sense here:
If another expansion is on the way then one of Khmer, Pagan/Burma, or Vietnam is 100% given.
If we are only playing by DLCs, the chances are smaller, but I still think one particular civ has a really, really good chance at a DLC: Khmer. Pagan/Burma, though pretty strong, doesn't have the marketable credentials of a Khmer. Vietnam is very marketable and accessible, but they don't have the historical strength of Khmer
If Majapahit/Indonesia is the most powerful maritime SEA civ, then Khmer is the most powerful mainland civ. It's mostly about the sphere of influence, power & leadership, and cultural/architectural prowess that places these two up top - yes, their geography is very important, but if that was the defining factor then we would have to automatically throw in some form of Australia, which is not really necessary
For this reason, combined with the expanded representation the Civ series now has, I think both have an incredibly good chance of becoming Civ mainstays in future titles - starting with this current one. I really do
