Yeah, Austria-Germany is not a good example. Austria has a lot of similarities to Germany, and after WWI would have willingly joined Germany, but they were forbidden to by treaty.

Ukraine's on because it's a sentimental favorite (my mother was born there), otherwise European civs aren't of much interest to me.
Hey! I've met a Pollack and now a fellow Ukrainian, we are few and far between.

And I do feel Ukraine/Kievan`Rus should be getting more votes. And no this is not because I am part Ukrainian (not entirely at least) It's just because there needs to be more representation of eastern Europe along with, Eurasian steppes, SE Asia, The Americas (native and colonial) and large portions of Africa.

What nine civs would you choose for a new expansion if you had to include at least one of each region?

Here are the regions

1.Eastern Europe
2.Himalayas (And surrounding areas, ie. Tibet)
3.Eurasian steppes
4.SE Asia
5.Americas (Native and/or Colonial)
6.Africa (Mainly central and east)

EDIT:Sorry for all the quizzing I just like to know peoples opinions... a lot.:)

I won't mind the Kievan Rus at all, they are among my 3 top left-out European civs (Hungary, Bulgaria and the Kievan Rus).
Still, I think Hungary should get some notice before the other 2.
Medieval Hungary was one of the biggest European powers continuously for more than 600 years!

1. For Easter Europe, definitely Hungary. I can see the merits of Bulgaria and Serbia, but I think out of the three Hungary is the clear choice.
2. For the Himalayas, the Mughals. It's not quite in the region, but close enough and they both split up India, and represent the Timurids, seeing as they are their more peaceful descendants.
3. No idea about Eurasia, but people like Ukraine and the Khazars, so take your pick.
4. Vietnam AND Khmer for SE Asia, because they're both super popular and extremely deserving.
5. A native South American civ (no idea which one) and Argentina for the colonial side. Maybe Canada too, but that one's iffy.
6. Two of either Nubia, Ashanti, and Kongo for Africa.

I think Hungary woulds be cool. They were very influential.
This doesn't have anything to do with you being Hungarian at all does It? ;)
Just kidding, Hungary and Ukraine are my top two for Europe. :)

I'm very proud of the history of medieval Hungary, obviously.
Still, being Hungarian is not really relevant here. Or not that much relevant :mischief:
Anyway, even if I'm trying to be as objectiv as possible:
Looking at the civ list, Hungary is really among the top missing civs, it absolutely deserves to be in the game

I totally agree. I just wish that Ukraine could get in too. :please:

I would feel that there would be really nothing left to add if they had, these civilizations/nations/empires.

Spoiler :
Asia:
Australia
Chola
Gupta
Khmer
Mughal
Nepal
Pagan
Taiwan
Tibet
Vietnam (Female leaders: Trung sisters. Would be cool to see a leader screen with two leaders.)

Africa:
Bachwezi
Kongo
Madagascar (Maybe representing the Merina Kingdom)
Mali (People here love Mansa Musa)
Nubia
South Africa (People argue this one because they say Nelson Mandela deserves in)
Swahili
Zimbabwe

Europe:
Holy Rome/Franks (Charlemagne deserves to be in.)
Hungary
Italy/Tuscany/Papal States (I would love to see Lorenzo de Medici in the game.)
Romania (Vlad the Impaler. Need I say more.)
Switzerland
Ukraine (Representing Kievan Rus')

Middle East:
Armenia
Hittites
Israel
Khazaria
Nabataean (Best known as the makers of the Petra and the Mada'in Saleh.)
Oman
Phoenicia

Pueblo
Mexico
Olmec
Sioux (Everyone but me loves them...)

South America:
Argentina
Columbia (Representing Gran Columbia. Simon Bolivar)
Nazca
Norte Chico
Tiwanaku
Tupi/Mapuche

They could be split up into two or three more expansions and DLC

Spoiler :
Colonization Expansion (Would include colonization, revolutions of those colonies, and vassals):
1) Vietnam
2) Kongo
3) Madagascar
4) Cherokee
5) Argentina
6) Columbia
7) Romania (Because they cannot go one expansion without including a European civ, no matter how unrelated!)
8) South Africa
9) Australia

Modern Problems Expansion (Would include global warming, overpopulation, MAD, Cold Wars, and more):
1) Vietnam
2) Switzerland
3) Hungary
4) Canada
5) Italy
6) Mexico
7) Ukraine
8) ________
9) ________*
* I was thinking Taiwan, but China wouldn't like that.

Ancient World Expansion (expands the early game and includes mechanics like health of cities):
1) Nubia
2) Armenia
3) Nabataean
4) Olmec
5) Nazca
6) Greece (split from Alexander's Macedonia and have it a culture civ led by Pericles)
7) Norte Chico
8) Phoenicia
9) ________**
**I would've included Israel but some people may have not liked that. I was also thinking Tibet, but China wouldn't like that.

Spoiler :
Old Friends DLC (includes civilizations from the previous games that aren't in):
1) Khmer
2) Mali
3) Sumeria
4) Hittite
5) Sioux
6) Holy Rome

Religious DLC (I said Tibet and Israel would annoy people? Well, DLC have no included mechanics, just expansions do. People who don't buy DLC don't miss any new features.):
1) Israel
2) Tibet
3) Nepal
4) Khazaria

India Haters DLC (splits India into several civilizations):
1) Chola
2) Gupta
3) Mughal
4) India***
*** Just a rework of the current India to make it into modern India

Native America DLC:
1) Inuit
2) Mississippian
3) Pueblo
4) Tiwanaku
5) Mapuche
6) Tupi

Eurocentric Haters DLC:
1) Pagan
2) Bachwezi
3) Zimbabwe
4) Timurid

This post was longer than I expected. What do you all think? Did I forget anything or anyone?

You missed the Republic of Sealand and the Principality of Liechtenstein.

I was going a little overboard with some of the nations/civilizations on the list hence the nothing left to add. I was just trying to cover all my bases so I only got smartass suggestions. ;)

EDIT: Of course, some, like Norte Chico, Nazca, and Nabataean, would be easier to just add as City States.

I only know enough about two regions:

2. Himalayas: Nepal. I don't know how you can have a Himalayan civ and not have Nepal. They are the quintessential mountain civ. And they are real tough cookies - sandwiched in between the Chinese and Indian giants yet they've held their own.

4. Burma or Khmer. Those are the two missing giants of Southeast Asia. I love Vietnam and I think they deserve a spot by default of the fans, but I don't know how anybody with a deep knowledge of Southeast Asian history can say they are more deserving without bias. If not though, then Champa is another good option. Then Vietnam.

I would guess that the chances of each Civ making it are this order:

(1) Khmer, largest and most powerful mainland SEA empire. Been in Civ in the past. My personal favorite option
(2) Vietnam, a large Civ fanbase and a culture that Westerners find more easily distinguishable from the other SEA powers. I know how hard it is to have to wait for your pet civ, so I can sympathize with the fellow Vietnamese supporters. ASEAN unite! :goodjob:
(3) Burma, massive empire and deserving as they have never been represented in Civ. Unfortunately, they don't have the support of Khmer and Vietnam. In Civ terms, unless you're from Europe then you need the support. What a shame, they have a rich and beautiful history
(4) Champa, deserving as well but as long as Vietnam is more popular then they will never make it. Not that they are the same, but the geography lends it to this reality

4. Vietnam AND Khmer for SE Asia, because they're both super popular and extremely deserving

Agreed. These two would sell well I believe. If there is another expansion, I firmly believe both deserve to be included

Make it happen, devs! If there is no expansion, make a DLC combo pack!! "The Southeast Asian bundle: Vietnam and Khmer"

I'd totally be for that. Vietnam and Khmer in one, with a medieval/early modern SE Asian scenario (or *sigh* a Vietnam War scenario if they think it'd sell better).
