Whenever I start up a new game & it turns out I have Sitting Bull as a neighbor I usually restart unless I have really nice land. I cant stand this guy, he's protective & his UB give even more exp to his already strong archers. His UU is a resourceless axe with a bonus against melee, dog soldiers eat swords & axes for breakfast. I dont like to rush early ( unless I'm really boxed in ) but Sitting Bull while not impossible to rush will make you spend 100% more hammers on troops to conquer over a standard civ.

Sitting Bull also seems to spam cities at a incredible pace, if you arent boxed in by SB you soon will be. He's a slowish techer but also doesnt like to trade techs so he makes a horrible trading partner. Only Catherine is worse in making demands, as soon as I hook up a new resource SB is sure to demand it!

The #1 reason why I hate Sitting Bull however is......espionage. Whenever I play a game with him as a neighbor I'm getting my cities water poisoned CONSTANTLY, this guy seems to be put in the game to make the human players miserable.

Shaka is a close runner up.

I just played a game where genghis was my neighbour. That guy's funny. I built up a lot of archers so he wouldn' DOW me. He didn't have much of an army. So I send a worker right on our border to do some....work....and then Khan declares on me and steals my worker. His army is only chariots (he has no metal) and so he dies to my archer fire and makes peace. The peace lasts for a while, and then I send another worker to that same spot. Again he declares and loses a bunch of chariots and makes peace. I think poor Khan has OCC or something...it's like he's sitting there saying to himself "okay, Khan ol chap, you're supposed to be a good boy this year, remember what mommy....oh....there's a worker....on my border.....I could just..., no wait, be a good boy, good....but there's a worker....AAAAAAAAAAGH!!!!"

any protective leader. there is nothing a healthy horde of axeman cannot solve. i found that most aggressive civs are rather easily hurt in an early rush... but thats probabely only immagination.

Tokugawa. Most every other AI can be put to some use as a war or trade partner, but Tokugawa is worthless in every respect.

Top 5:
Tokugawa - Self-explanatory..
Charlemagne - He founds SO many cities on hills, very tough to rush.
Gilgamesh - Expands quickly in my experience, and he LOVES to poison water supply, every turn..
Sitting Bull - Same as Gilgamesh except you CAN'T rush the guy because of dog soldiers early and CGIII longbows once you have some siege.
Sury - He always has it in for me, he usually backstabs at pleased..

Alex or Shaka... most likely the only ones that would archer rush me ( Alex done it once while I was building the Oracle and settling my cooper city.... )

The others can be dealt with more or less catas....

In no particular order
Shaka - most effective warmonger, if you don't rush him before he gets copper/iron you'll regret it
Catherine - rexing and backstabbing
Joao - rexing, demands and just plain annoying
Brennus - always seems to pick a different religion to me, hates me because of it, and stays in Theocracy all game

If you can get Toku on side and keep him there hes a loyal ally, he will even become a voluntary vassel ocasionally

Hadn't read this, as i said no doubt.

Gilgamesh, he's Creative so he his borders are annoying, and he's Protective so it's usually not worth the effort to take out his annoyingly close cities until you have siege.

Can't believe no one said this one yet... Hammurabi. He REXes like a pro and is damn near impossible to rush because of the Bowman. Normally I won't even try to take him until I have Cats.

I like hammurabi close though. He can get to be a runaway AI if he's far away, kind of like HC.

Most annoying to me to have nearby are Toku and other trade-poor warmongers. I like those guys far away from me, so I can meet them later and abuse their warring tendencies with bribes easily. If they're nearby it's hard to trade anything decent and they get pissy so I have to kill them, but that usually leave me behind. Those !@#$'s don't care if they get behind or die though, they want a suicide war. I prefer my wars to be winning ones...

stalin and sumerian because they build up insane amount of EP and spam you with spies. poison water every other turn unless you're super friendly with them.

hammurabi is easily rushed with chariots. iirc bowmen only get +50% vs melee

hardest to conquer. protective or creative. and really really those that are both creative and protective ;-)

Any creative, protective, or agressive leader. The worse are those that combine 2 of those three.

Joao II because he build super-many cities so I need to build my later cities on other continents and that gives me so high maintenance.

Japan is obvious. They're hard to attack, unpredicable, and tend not to trade with anybody but their bestest friend. Then later he switches to mercantilism - so even if you're trading with him you can't get trade routes so he's just wasting space. Kill him before he has samurai. Kill him as early as is practical. I also hate having close borders with the Romans when they have iron because their UU is overpowered.

Thread's almost a year old.

I'm changing my vote to Gilgamesh. He's PRO, so annoying beyond belief to rush. He is also creative. Creative AIs tend to do well generally speaking. More annoyingly, gilgamesh will REX endlessly and his culture can be a serious problem. On top of all that, he declares at pleased and has solid early UU/UB...which while the AI isn't great with help him out early even more.

I'll box idiots like toku/etc out and out-tech them. That's a lot harder with gilgamesh settling cities faster and culture pushing my tiles as he hides behind his CG II archers.

Sometimes he even declares before you can get the HR bonus to kick in. Not fun. A lot of the warmongers can be stomped down early, with sumeria it's still possible but hard.
