What Asian country will you emigrate to?

North Korea of course!

actually, in all seriousness I think that South Korea would be the best.

you'll find korean culture about as alien as japanese culture

did South Korea invent the Yakyuken special? I don't think it get's weirder than that.

South Korea, since I have relatives there.

@Arronax:

You mean the man who created Singapore, and turned a swamp into one of the worlds finest cities; while dragging Asia out of their financial crises in the 90's?

Otherwise you can always go and live in KL, since you were all Malaysians before, right? ;)

Singapore dragged Asia out of the financial crisis?:confused::eek:
You are giving it way too much credit than is due

C'mon брат that's weak. My uncle used to work in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskij. That's where the real men go.

(For the record, my uncle is a "real [man]".)

My ex-gf got relatives in Южно-Cахалинск, bro. And people there know a thing or two about being though.

Singapore, Brunei or Hong Kong. Small and affluent.
I fancy being a colonial overlord...

If I was going to emigrate anywhere it would be Japan. I lived there for ten years, I'm bilingual, a Bhuddist and I have friends and relatives there. Finances aren't a problem and I have no doubt that I could fit in and live there comfortably. There are of course, advantages and disadvantages with anyplace you might live and Japan is no exception. At this stage of my life, my expectations have narrowed and I'm content to sit right where I am. No more big adventures.

-____-" We are still in a financial crisis...

I'm talking about the Asian Financial Crisis of the 90's... Lee Kuan Yew and his government formulated a plan of thriftiness, which has lasted till today. Its because of his plans, that have lasted till today, the reason why East Asia was not affected as badly as other places.

Pray, tell, what plan is this? I've never heard of it, much less the fact that it somehow saved the whole of East Asia.

You can read up on the Asian Financial Crisis of 1997 here:

If you've ever taken a university level economics course, you should have been taught about this, needless to say its a great case study for today's problems in Europe and the US

I know about that. I'm just curious to hear more about how Singapore's policies then "has lasted till today" and is "the reason why East Asia was not affected as badly as other places", as you put it. The Wiki article isn't very forthcoming on those questions. Maybe you could tell me about what you learned in your "university level economics course".

uhh...It says nothing about Captain Singapore saving the day.
I know about the Asian financial crisis of 97/98, and I don't recall the Singaporean government took any measures that can possibly be interpreted as "saving its neighbors", much less the entire East Asia.

Japan, partly for the strange mecha/pedophile/video-game culture.

Shangri-La, the utopian beyuls in the Kunlun Mountains. Land of the immortal hot babes.

best to stay away from the Philippines. avoid it like the plague. go somewhere else :p

my country has imported practically all its legal technologies from the US. while we're a civil law country, most of our laws are of American origin. we have the strongest respect for the Rule of Law, although people who do extralegal things often get away scott free, and we took that Social Justice thing to the extremes when it was first introduced to us post-war time. we have utmost love for free speech and peaceful assembly, and we coddle unions. we are basically a secular state, although the nauseating presence of the Catholic Church has prevented us from enacting a divorce law or for pushing a more rigorous and comprehensive family planning program. women have more rights than men and the gay community is embraced with cordial welcome. corruption is pervasive in the country, so much that an inexperienced and clueless bachelor became our president when he simply ran under the banner of anti-graft practices in the government. despite his incompetence, he won because he vowed he would do everything in his powers to root out corruption. to this day, he is stumbling and bumbling, and probably spending the weekend playing games on his xbox. we value our environment more than economic progress and generally avoid harmful practices to our natural resources than explore ways to exploit them. we are a poor country, and the wealth and rich gap is one of the widest in the world. our economy thrives on our service-oriented sector--i.e. wage and menial task labor are what keeps this country afloat. we have a decent literacy rate and most can speak English albeit imperfectly and localized in most instances. and so on.

in other words, go somewhere else. you would not like it here.

I WOULD NOT go to Pakistan, rest anything is fine really
