I could do without meat, poultry, fish - killing animals for their meat, but I couldn't be without eggs and milk. Just a poll, wondering who else feels the same way.


I happen to wake up early this morning for work, I am having some awesome cafe con leche (50/50 milk/coffee mix). Just finished a scrambled egg burrito that was dynamite :D My roommates boyfriend said it's the best eggs he's ever eaten, and he's not the first person to ever say that. I am seriously thinking of starting a breakfast stand on the side to make a few extra bucks.


Anyway, poll forth coming and general breakfast food discussion,
 
As an ingredient in so many things, eggs and milk would be extremely hard to give up. As a food on its own I would prefer to keep meat.
 
Meat, etc., because I do that already. Which is funny, because we have no biological requirement for eggs and milk, and so don't need to run around finding replacements like we do if we give up meat, so I guess it owes more to culture than anything else.

Humans didn't evolve to consume milk outside of infancy, because there was no available supply until the development of pastoralism. (In fact we can only consume it as adults because of a mutation that allows us to continue producing the necessary enzymes into adulthood, and that of varying prevalence in different human ethnicities.) Eggs are obviously a little different, because we've always been able to scavenge them, but the fact that they were only obtained opportunistically before the development of pastoralism means that we never developed any nutritional dependence on them in the way that we did on meat.
 
I could part with all that. I know there's some vegetarian stuff out there that just as good and even better than meat. I remember on a date, we went to this Thai vegetarian restaurant on N 45th in Seattle and they had something called mushroom meat that had the same texture and flavor as beef, of which I was greatly impressed with
 
I eat eggs very seldomly and I can't stand milk, so that. I try to avoid eating meat because I strongly endorse animal rights but its sooo tasty.
 
I'm not giving up my seafood and meat for eggs and dairy, no way.

Anyways, lactose intolerant here, so the answer is obvious. Also I hate eggs.
 
Don't care much for milk, and I'm not giving up meat for eggs.
 
I would not mind cutting back on both, but don't really want to give up either altogether.

I do not often have eggs and very rarely drink milk (I think I've become mildly lactose intolerant since high school), but I imagine they are ingredients in things I eat often.

I don't like nearly as much meat as most guys, but I do like to have chicken in restaurants and a lot of the things I cook best require ground beef.

You know, fungi are actually much more closely related to animals than to plants.
