Dude, I completely forgot about The Dog Whisperer with Cesar Millan! Shame on me! That is by a mile the greatest reality TV show ever. Constructive, educational, and entertaining. You can't beat that.

To be honest the majority of reality shows are bilge. And their just getting worse and worse. It's prole TV at it's worst, as a prole I feel secure in making htat comment.

Evidence that humans are evolving backwards....

There's more to the profit margin than the cheap production costs. There's also Product Placement. Apprentice teams compete to see who can sell more Burger King burgers, Survivor contestants win Budweiser, Trading Spouses takes their kid to the Gap. The Coke (or is it Pepsi) bottle on the American Idol judges desk.
Networks love these shows because it's much easier to advertise to you in between their commercial breaks. And you can't Tivo these ones.

I hate TV. Reality TV is the what I hate most about TV.

It is prolefeed. Give the people prolefeed to keep their minds off real issues.

Reality TV shows are stupid and a waste of airspace.

i like a few, especially project runway. I think those guys/girls are really talented and some of the finalist are one of the best :D

The rest like amazing race i only watch a bit here and there if the place they were in are interesting. also apply to the apprentice and american top model(hate it actually, but sometime watch how the photographers do model shots)

American idol was stupid for one. I mean why would i idolize someone just because they sing well? And even then they dont sing the music i like.

Who told you you have to idolize them or that anyone idolizes them? :p It's just a name.

I like Idol, American and Australian Idol. But that's about it.

American Idol especially has discovered two big stars Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood!

True. Not only do they provide conveniently appropriate ad sales slots to sell, but there are also those corporate sponsors mentioned previously. Such sponsors more often than not influence the nature and content of the show.

Product placement and sponsorships aren't new to American television.

Even I Love Lucy was sponsored by Philip Morris. I also don't think I need to tell you who sponsored the Goodyear Television Playhouse or General Electric Theater.

I like the odd reality TV programme. I forget which, simply because they aren't really meant to stick in your head are they. Got to say that after a long day of working and spamming CFC, those last couple of hours before bed are going to be filled with something which isn't going to require mental gymnastics.

That said, the number of "expert panel" shows at the minute is crazy. I believe it was not invented, but popularised, by Simon Fuller and his "Popstars / Pop Idol / American Idol" shows and now it's everywhere. Singing shows, dancing shows, modelling shows, even (and this is ridiculous) Circus shows.

Of course, all of those have to be regurgetated (sp?) with celebrities later too!

For the most part, yeah I would say I do like them. They are definately better than the other stuff that is on (like Robin Hood on BBC1, that is just awful) and well they might not be too mentally straining but there are normally some classic tv moments on them.

So I think I'm the first to say, yes they are fun to watch.

I suppose I'm the only one, but watching anything more coherent than static on the TV requires more mental effort from me than do most forum discussions.

Sounds like you're in the wrong thread, or forum. Attempting to untwine the logic of some on CFC definatel gets the cogs moving
