You may have heared of that already... I ask: What do you think of that?
If you don't know of TCPA just read this through...

Overview
Some companies like Compaq, HP, IBM, Intel, Microsoft and many more want that only computers with integrates security ships are sold. This chips have a 2048 bit strong encryption (no run-time decoding possible). They want that only these hardware is allowed, as well as only software that needs those chips to run is alowed. These chips are always checking via the internet if every single byte on the machine is lizenzed.
All hardware / software without TCP will be illegal!

What means that for us?
- no own software (we would need a TCP licence)
- The informational self-determination isn't existing anymore, it's not possible to save, copy, create, program, ..., the data like you want. This applies for privates as for companies
- The free access to the IT/Software market is completely prevented for anyone except the big companies, the market as we know it today will get completely destroyed
- Restrictions in the usage of owned hardware would apply
- The liberty of opinion and the free speech on the internet would finally be eliminated
- The own rights while using IT-technologies are history.
- The national self-determination of the der particular countries would be fully in the hands of the USA
- Probably the world would break into two digital parts (Countries that express against TCPA)

I voted against the implementation of TCPA. I heard about it in the news some time ago but it did not seem likely to occur. What the industry wants is total control, something Im not willing to buy into. So what if piracy is a problem, it would not be so bad if games were not so expensive.

Well, if implemented in the right way it would protect companies from piracy... in the wrong way it would prevent us from any freedom.

I don't like it, or I do. It's like it is good for legal progras you buy - but my version of 3D Max would not work, and there is no way I would by it. cost to mush, so they have actually not lost anything of me copying it...

I say it would prob be used to keep monopoly in areas, and help goverments(that want to) to keep tight control of every citisen(compind with new samrtcards - only on card of ID, credicard & to pay with).

Supposedly it is up to the user whether to run non-TCPA apps, so free as in both speech and beer software will still be possible. I use Linux for everything but playing Civ (sound looping problems with WineX).

I really don't believe in stealing either music or software, but I certainly believe anything more than 10 years is too long for a copyright monopoly. In the end, I think the goal of Microsoft and related companies is for people to rent, not own, software enabling them to have a constant revenue stream.

I always like it when people try to justify playing copied computer games. It is still stealing though and is on the same level as nicking an old lady's bag.

No, not as I see it. If I WOULD NOT buy it. Then how can you say they have lost something? That don't make sence, or please thell me how? (On the other hand, IF I would have bought the product and choose not to cuz of a illegal copy then they loose money. But not in the above case!)

If they pull it off it will greatly enhance profitability at the expense of actual productivity, until the market re-stabilizes.

Your best bet is to take a ride on the inflation train.

Invest in established software companies with lots of existing products to license, dump your speculative portfolio. Try to buy property as soon as possible, because lost productivity means inflation. Property is more inflation-proof than any other investment. Be sure to negotiate fixed a rate mortgage.

As a corollary, taking on a large amount of (fixed) debt to invest conservatively in the market is probably a good idea, because inflation will render your (fixed) debt LESS significant but your investment will grow more or less in step with inflation.

Because of the hit to creditors, interest rates will rise substantially, eventually stabilizing the credit market. Higher interest rates mean that fewer new businesses will be started, and fewer jobs will be created. Unemployment will rise. Stagflation will set in.

It will resemble the 1970s. Hopefully some new technology will come along that will pull us out of the malaise...

MrPresident: (No not end of story :) )If someone could make a perfect COPY of a pice of bread that was mind. I would not have a problem with they doing so if they could not pay for it. WHY should someone have that problem. No one loose anything from that. Please thell me how they have loost anything. (yes I know it's illigal by law, but WHY should it be)

no intention of paying for
Yes I would if I could.

You are correct MrPresident. Huh, I feel like a top advisor now

But back on topic. You can't use the reasoning "I would never have bought it" Car theives have no intention of buying a car. That does not make it right. Yeah, I know there is a difference, but think if a CD cost the same as a car. The "I was not going to buy it anyway" line wouldn't be as accepted would it?

Now, as for the computer searching for illegal software. I am agianst it. That is illegal search and seizure which is protected by the 4th admendment. They have no reason to believe you have pirated software, thus no right to search for it.

Yes I would if I could.
 So, in theory, when you come into the money you will voluntary hand that over the companies who manufactured the copied games? But of course you won't because you're a dirty rotten thief. :p

Finally someone has got the purpose of my name. :goodjob:

Yes I would, If i sudenly got rich I would pay for 3D Max that I got. I already pay for games cuz I can aford them. You see I'm an perhaps TO onest person. I go and pay the rent afterward for movies I download from the net. This actually makes it possible for them to make more money cuz they can rent the film to someone else at the same day.

More on topic: The bigges problem I see is that they could prevent you from running unatoriched programs - this would be programs you hade made, or freeware programs.

The industry has every right to protect itself from piracy, I don't see this as a way to infringe on our freedom. It's far too easy to get illegal software.

Companies pay people to make that stuff. It is the same as stealing.

Then why not just stop buying the games and use that money to buy 3D Max? Or buy a program that is not as expensive as 3D Max?

According to your logic, you would not have bought it anyway. Now, you also claim that you are not a thief. Thus, when you say you would not have bought it, the only way this would be true is that you would be willing not to produce graphics with it (in the case of 3D Max). But you choose not to forgo this ability. Thus it invalidates the fact you are willing to do so, and as such invalidates the statement you are not a thief.

In theory, the end of software piracy would make software less expensive. Also the transition of information distribution from physical media (a CD, a book or a DVD) to data transfer media (online) would (in theory) virtually eliminate the cost of distribution, making information less expensive.

So instead of paying $50 for a brand-new game, you might pay only $10 or $20 for it, or pay a few cents per hour of use. Instead of paying $17 for a brand-new CD, you might pay $6 for it.

This is especially good for textbook buyers, because textbooks are expensive due to small print runs which don't allow the publisher to take advantage of mass production efficiencies.

Plus the servers of the Earth will house every movie, book, game or song ever created, forever. No worries about something going out of print.

Everyone will be able to publish whatever media they want because publishers/distributers will no longer have to cope with a limited supply chain. You could be a widely read author or widely heard musician without having to jump today's hurdles and schoomze with otherwise worthless agents and labels.

If all goes well, it's good for people who buy their data, but bad for people who steal it.

However, I'm cynical that the producers of this stuff will pass as much savings onto consumers as they could. They will try to jack us if they think they can get away with it. Screw those greedy b******s.

Nice theory but about as likely as Jesse Jackson becoming President. :D

Exactly dude.

No way. I can see why companies would want this, for example, the entire music industry is suffering from Kazaa-itis. :p But still, shareware is an intergral part of LOTS of things. People should be allowed to make their own software. With this law, you would probably need a liscense to make your own software.

BAD law.

Well, 3D Max is expensive, I would have to do more then to stop buying games to aforde that. One thing you might also wieght into this is how mush do I use 3D Max... not that mush. I downloaded it tried it out a few times... Hope to take it up in the future, cuz it would be fun to be able to use it. Perhasp this is some of an response to your second paragraph - I don't not get realy what you where trying to say there. Plese try to explain your thoughts for me.

I will however give you for cheeper program - You could say I steel from them by not buying their product or something... but that would make it stupied for the producers of 3D Max to try and stop me, cuz giving money to their competitors.

Somehow I think 3D Max would not be as upset as you think if you stole from somone other than them.
